The WWE is teaming up with THQ for a wrestling game that even I can get excited about (I stopped watching wrestling while it was still the WWF). “Legends of Wrestlemania” is coming to the Playstation 3 and X-Box 360, and lets players “relive, rewrite, and redefine the greatest moments in WWE history.”
Read on for more details and a teaser trailer for the game.
Right now, the only four confirmed legends in the game are Hulk Hogan, Andre the Giant, Bobby “The Brain” Heenan, and Jim Ross. The final game is expected to have 40 playable wrestlers, along with a ton of managers, refs, and commentators, all from the 80s and 90s. Managers will play a big part in matches as they distract the ref, attack opponents, defend their wrestler, and interfere as only they can to turn the tide of matches.
One very interesting aspect of the game is that when you fight in classic wrestlemania matches, “vintage WWE footage will set up matches, explain feuds and detail the rivalries behind them, situating players in the heart of each contest.” IMO there is no better way to win back an old fan. I think I’ll preorder the game now.
We have a long wait, as the game is expected to be released in March of 2009, to coincide with the airing of WrestleMania XXV. To see more screenshots from the game, click here to visit the official site.
