There is only one thing that I like more than zombies, and that is George Romero’s zombies! So, you can imagine my excitement earlier today when I read in Variety that George Romero begins shooting this week on an all new zombie film, which is believed to be “Island of the Dead”.
The horror thriller sounds more like a solo film, rather than a continuation of his original “Night” series or his more recent “Diary of the Dead”. Either way, it is a Romero zombie film, and that is enough to get my butt in the theater.
According to Variety, the plot focuses on the “inhabitants of an isolated island off the North American coast who find their relatives rising from the dead to eat their kin. The leaders of the island feud over whether or not to kill their reanimated relatives or preserve them in hopes of finding a cure.”
The movie sounds like an old school voodoo zombie film, like the 1943 horror classic “I Walked With a Zombie”, rather than the more recent crop of high octane/non-stop action zombie films (“28 Weeks Later”, “Dawn of the Dead” remake).
