Archive for January, 2009

What can I say, I love Jason Statham. He is my new Van Damme/Seagal/Stallone go to action hero. Script? Who cares! Story? Who cares! Character development? Screw that! Action? Oh hell yeah! Crank 2: High Voltage looks absolutely over the top and down right ridiculous and I loved every minute of the trailer.

That said, I’ll still be waiting to check it out on DVD…

Cover for issue 584 of Amazing Spider-Man

It has been a year since “Brand New Day” turned back the clock on Spider-Man, and we’re finally coming to a head on a lot of the story lines that developed since the status quote change. The New York Mayor election will be decided and the mystery behind the Spider-Tracer Killings and the identity of Menace will be revealed!  The issue is written by Marc Guggenheim with art by John Romita Jr.

It’ll be hitting stands on January 21, 2009.

Fringe Still Image

Fringe is the best show that is sitting and collecting dust in my Tivo. Once my schedule opens up a little more I’m going to sit down to a weekend Fringe marathon.  For those of you who have been watching it weekly, tonight’s all new episode gets the golden spot after American Idol at 9pm on FOX.

Official episode description: “A visit from Olivia’s sister (Ari Graynor) and a formal review of the Fringe Division coincide with the investigation of the murder of a famous scientist, which may have something to do with Olivia’s recent abduction.”

What else is new tonight?

8PM

  • CW: 90210 (Teen Drama)
  • FOX: American Idol (Reality)
  • NBC: Biggest Loser: Couples (Reality)

9PM

  • CBS: Change and Challenge: Barack Obama (News)

I caught this video last night on Robot Chicken and I was on the floor laughing. It needs no introduction or description, just watch it…

Cover for The Brave and the Bold issue 21

Okay, I’ll be perfectly honest here. I have not read any of the previous issues of The Brave and the Bold, nor do I really have any interest in the series. But this week’s cover (as seen above) by Doug Braithwaite is simply breath taking and is a perfect rendition of two classic DC Comics heroes. That alone might get me to check out the new issue.

Written by David Hine with interior art by Braithwaite and Bill Reinhold, here is the issue’s official preview: “It’s Lantern vs. Lantern as Hal Jordan comes to blows with his bizarre alien counterpart! Back on Earth, Green Arrow struggles to save the children of Arcadia Orphanage from further horrific experimentation!”

It hits stands this Wednesday, January 21st.

House on FOX.

An all new episode of my of my favorite shows on TV, the Fox medical drama House starring Hugh Laurie, is on tonight at 8pm. One of the best aspects of the series is that it focuses on the puzzle of the illnesses and the trial and error to find out how to save the patients. Unlike other melodramatic medical dramas, we haven’t even learned the full names of most of the doctors let alone be over saturated in their lives. This makes it all the more effective when we finally do learn of just what is going on outside of the hospital.

Tonight’s episode is titled “Painless”, and the team is working on the case of a man who suffers from a chronic and excruciating pain, much like our title character. Along with that we have advancements on both the Cuddy (Lisa Edelstein) baby storyline and Foreman (Omar Epps) and Thirteen’s (Olivia Wilde) Huntington’s disease drug trial.

Check out these new stills from “Painless” (click to enlarge).
