Yesterday we had a couple new DVD/Blu-Ray releases. Included in the mix was the family comedy Marmaduke, the comedy Made for Each Other, OSS 177: Lost in Rio, and Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married Too.

Marmaduke
Stars Lee Pace and Judy Greer with he voices of Owen Wilson, Emma Stone, George Lopez, Kiefer Sutherland, Sam Elliott and countless others. Based on the comic strip of the same name, the movie features the beloved Great Dane as he moves into a new neighborhood with his family and accidentally wrecks havoc with his misadventures.

Made for Each Other
I’ve never even heard of this one, but it stars Patrick Warburton, Danny and Christopher Masterson, Bijou Phillips, and George Segal. After 3 months of a sexless marriage, Dan (Christopher Masterson) cheats on his wife. Racked with guilt, he becomes determined to even the odds by getting her to cheat on him, so he sets out to find the perfect man for the job. Sounds like it could be fun.

OSS 177: Lost in Rio
In this adventure comedy, Jean Dujardin stars as French superspy OSS 117 as he tracks down a former high-ranking Nazi in 1967 Rio de Janeiro. This is the 9th movie to feature the character of OSS 117.

Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married Too
The sequel to Tyler Perry’s 2007 romantic comedy, the flick stars Janet Jackson, Michael Jai White, Jill Scott, Richard T. Jones, Louis Gossett Jr and of course Tyler Perry himself.

Last Tuesday we also got a bunch of new releases, including George A. Romero’s Survival of the Dead, City Island, The Back-Up Plan, and The Square. What will you be buying?

I like to take my children to our local movie theater, Waterford Lakes, once every other Saturday. My daughter is eight and my son is ten. They democratically pick a movie at the beginning of the month and I get to pick the movie that we see at the end of the month. My wife has three votes while the kids each have one. No one messes with my week, unless my wife really wants to see something else. This usually leads to a combination of Toy Story 3 followed shortly by the Expendables.

I was a child of the eighties and I thought that the Expendables was totally awesome. The only thing it was missing was Chuck Norris. Maybe Sylvester Stallone will put him in the sequel. Jean-Claude Van Damme and Steven Segal would have been nice, but I don’t think that they have it in them anymore. Van Damme has lost his action credibility and Segal is just out of shape.

On our bimonthly outings, we usually set the ADT hempstead security alarm and leave the house about an hour before the film starts. That leaves us plenty of time to get to the theater, grab the kids some popcorn and a drink, send everyone in for a last minute potty break, and find a decent row of seats in the middle of the theater.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I LOVE MOCK TRAILERS. Especially for classic video games. People that can make a funny trailer that stays true to the source material while paying homage to different parts of the game deserve our attention. This mock movie trailer for the classic PC learning game The Oregon Trail is perfect. Watch it and comment below!
