My husband and I have a little girl. For years, we said we would never let our future child watch television. We always thought parents who let their children watch television, didn’t care about spending time with their children. We thought these parents were just neglecting their children. Well, then we had a child. The television has nothing to do with caring for or watching your child. Sometimes everyone just needs a few minutes to rest and relax and not have to think about things. We decided our directv tv was not doing any harm to our child and to be honest it was helping keep us sane. I love my child more than anything on this earth, but the thirty minutes a day she watches television gives me time to recharge my batteries. Of course, I know too much television is a bad thing. However, I have gone from thinking children should never watch television to understanding and believing everything is fine in moderation. My advice to all the parents-to-be out there is to never say you would never do something because likely you will be eating your words.
Fermin, thanks for the guest post. As you mentioned, most things are fine in moderation, including TV. There are certainly shows that children should not watch, but there are a lot of perfectly suitable programs for them. Programs that can teach them things while being entertaining and stimulating their minds.
