Fantastic Four 1 (2014)

Another day. Another Marvel Comics issue #1. This one is for the Fantastic Four, just in time for their 75th Anniversary. While I am very happy that Marvel Comics has not rebooted their universe like DC Comics did with the “New 52,” it is very silly that most Marvel titles get renumbers to 1 along with a new creative team after 12 to 24 issues (Fantastic Four is going back to issue 1 after only 16 issues).

The All-New Marvel Now! team for the first family of superheroes is writer James Robinson and artist Leonard Kirk. Issue #1 kicks off “The Fall of the Fantastic Four,” and sees the return of one of their oldest foes, Fing-Fang-Foom, along with ditching their traditional blue and black color scheme for a darker red and black. Where will this new direction take them?

Fantastic Four #1
Official Description: The world’s greatest comics magazine begins anew with Marvel’s First Family, the Fantastic Four! But as the brilliant MR. FANTASTIC, the compassionate INVISIBLE WOMAN, the ever lovin’ THING & the hot-headed HUMAN TORCH embark on a strange mission, they aren’t met with new beginnings, but an untimely end! As the family of cosmic explorers head towards their darkest hour, who could possibly be behind their downfall? And how is one of their oldest enemies, the sadistic dragon known as Fing-Fang-Foom involved? Prepare for the fantastic!

This new #1 hits stands on Wednesday February 26th from Marvel Comics! Also launching on Wednesday is Revolutionary War: Supersoldiers.

The Monuments Men

The film is based on a documentary book by Robert M. Edsel and Bret Witter. It is all about the greatest treasure hunt in history. Events unfold in the years of World War II, when Adolf Hitler came to power. He visited Italy and was just amazed at the beauty of this city. Perhaps at this time he decided to assemble the largest collection of art objects. Whatever it was, his art critics were secretly conducting an inventory of museum treasures from various European cities. Well, everyone knows about what happened to these values ??in the future: the agents of the Third Reich did not disregard any museum or private collection.

However, The Monuments Men (2014) movie tells not about them, but the heroes of the war who are rarely mentioned in history books. This is the story of the art critics who voluntarily put on uniforms to move with the army often being on the front line to save the works of Rubens and Vermeer, Rembrandt and Van Dyck. The search for these treasures demanded from them not only courage, but also exceptional detective abilities. That is why the film based on the documentary book (very wittily written), turned out to be more fascinating than any thriller. Great cast, interesting directorial finds, beautiful camera work – this is something that is worth watching. It is one of the most important productions proposed in 2014. And it’s not just the artistic merits of the movie. It brings us back to one of the most important topics about which lately is not often remembered and used to say quite rare. Well, the story about courage – this is true in any era.

The Monuments Men is based on true events about the greatest worldwide hunt for precious treasures in the whole history. In those days when there was a severe war, some people who were engaged in a variety of art and artifacts would come together in a few groups in order to save at least something. For example, works of art of the greatest painters that somehow were stolen by the Nazis and the best part was specifically destroyed, but not all objects of art were destroyed, and before the Nazis have time to destroy them, they need to hurry. A small group of people need to have time and patience to find and to pick up all the expensive artifacts as quickly as possible.

George Clooney has left only the most famous masters: Michelangelo, Picasso, Rembrandt – in short, only recognizable “brands”. Clooney’s art critics behave as if they are not scientists, but enthusiastic amateurs: we won’t hear any curious and original thinking about the art. And when you consider that Clooney caricatured the stereotypes concerning his nationality in each character, it becomes clear that the film in front of us is intended to be a hit of the movie world. No more and no less.

Dexter Down Under #1

I’d rather not talk about the Dexter series finale. It was so off the mark- so horrible, that I wish there was a TV show version of Dexter that could kill it, chop it up, and throw the pieces into the Ocean. It was such an insult to the series, that it taints all of the seasons before it. I need something to cleanse it from my brain. That finale can not be the last Dexter related story that I experience.

Here is hoping that Marvel Comics is able to tell a story true to the character and seasons that came before. Dexter Down Under pulls our favorite anti-hero from Miami and plants him into a very different atmosphere, Australia. It could be refreshing to see Dexter in a new setting, will he be a fish out of water, or will he fit in nicely among the local predators?

Dexter Down Under #1
Official Description: It’s a new, blood-soaked adventure starring Dexter Morgan, who isn’t just Miami’s #1 forensic blood splatter expert…he’s also a serial killer who targets other serial killers! When Dexter travels down under, he quickly discovers that sharks aren’t Australia’s only deadly predator!

Dexter Down Under hit comic book stores on February 19, 2014, which means that you can go out and get it now! Check it out and let us know what you think in the comments!

Starred Up

One day the main character of Starred Up movie gets in custody not even trying to fight for liberation, but why? Maybe he knows that no one will rescue him? Or does he really feel guilty? The man was accused in the death of some of his close friends, but he is confident and knows that all this is just a coincidence. But now it does not matter, because he does not care where to live now – in prison or at liberty, because he has no close friends, they all died. The guy is serving his time in jail, but in the meantime he may rethink his whole life and make plans for the future. All of this will only be in the case if he successfully leaves the walls of the prison and be able to achieve something. At the moment, our hero can only remember some of the moments of his life, as well as condemn himself for not being able to help the ones he loved.

Starred Up Trailer tends to be promising that the film will be very interesting, with a complex plot. The movie tells the story of a teenager who went to jail and became friends with a man who turned to be his father. Young Eric was able to develop a good interaction with the corrupt British police. However, this does not save him from falling into a real prison where he first encounters with his father. Because of its unbalanced and ill nature, instead of a youth custody center young offender Eric gets in the same prison with his father Neville. A volunteer psychotherapist Oliver who sees great potential in the guy helps Eric to avoid conflict with the security and cellmates here. While cultivating his own abilities, Eric comes to the conclusion that he should forgive his father until it was too late… It is definitely an interesting look at the English prison and the former street kids in it…

The World premiere of the British drama was held on September 9, 2013 in Canada as a part of the film festival in Toronto. Then the film was released in France on December 15, 2013, and it will be released in UK theaters in March, 2014. Starred Up was directed by David Mackenzie, produced by James Atherton, Katherine Butler, Sam Lavender, Jan Pace, Peter Hampden and Gillian Berrie, and stars Jack O’Connell, Peter Ferdinando, David Ajala, Sam Spruell, Anthony Welsh, Ben Mendelsohn, Ashley Chin, David Avery, Rupert Friend, Sian Breckin, Raphael Sowole, Gilly Gilchrist.

CSI

After a few seasons struggling to regain its footing in addition to the cancellation of CSI: Miami and, more recently, CSI: NY, comes word that CBS is developing a new spinoff from their long running crime drama. The untitled spinoff is being put together by the original CSI brain trust of  Carol Mendelsohn, Anthony Zuiker and Ann Donahue and will focus on the Cyber Crime Division of the FBI.

According to Variety, the series will focus on a Special Agent who and her team as they track “technology-amplified larceny by faceless criminals who commit global crimes with touch of a button,” and that the episodes will focus on “crimes that start in the mind, live online and play out in the real world.” This is very different than CSI, Miami, and NY, and I have to say it is nice to see them expand the franchise in such a way that we see more of its world along with new fresh elements. I’m surprised more shows don’t branch out like this.

The “pilot” for the spinoff will air as an episode of CSI in the Spring. Remember, not all planned spinoffs actually make it to air, but with the teaming of Mendelsohn, Zuiker and Donahue, this show has an excellent chance of moving forward. In turn, if it is good, it could help boost the mothership a bit.

Mr Peabody and Sherman

This year, we get the chance to watch one of the funniest animations ever. From the director of the absolutely amazing The Lion King, the new comedy Mr Peabody and Sherman is going to make us laugh like no other animated film did.

Mr. Peabody is a dog father, who besides parenting his little adopted son, has to do a bunch of other things. Being the most extraordinary dog of the planet, Peabody creates an awesome time machine. He names it WABAC and together with his little son, they get involved in different adventures related to the history of our world. Starting with the history of art and ending up with the fearless stories about the courageous Trojans, this movie brings it all out.

Sherman is the little restless kid, who is going to make us laugh really hard. His feelings for a cute classmate named Penny Peterson will make him reveal the secret of the WABAC machine. Together with Penny, they will travel in time and there is going to happen something that’s totally wrong and not okay. So now, the amazing dog father will travel back in time, in order to repair the damages that were done to the past. Saving the future will be his main goal and of course, he will achieve it.

Next to the amazing narration of our history, we get to see so much fun stuff going on. There is ridiculous stuff going on in the Ancient Egypt and there is so much fun during the creation of Giaconda, by Leonardo Da Vinci. Mr. Peabody may be the one who made Mona Lisa smile. Imagine how he can make us laugh. This is why Mr. Peabody & Sherman is proclaimed by many critics “The Dog Father of all Comedies”.

In March, we have the opportunity to witness the incredible adventures of Mr. Peabody. Do not miss the chance of learning the history in the funniest possible way. You will simply fall in love with these cute characters and their stories. Meet the extraordinary dog – watch the father of all the comedies Mr. Peabody & Sherman.
