Midnight Chronicles

Today we’re going to spotlight a movie from one of the hardest sub-genres to tackle; independent fantasy films. Midnight Chronicles from director Christian T. Petersen and Fantasy Flight Games has the uphill battle of establishing a whole world, its rules, and setting the players in place on a low budget.

What is Midnight Chronicles about? It has been a hundred years since the Shadow fell… The dark god Izrador reigns victorious. After three ages of scheming and war, Izrador has finally defeated the heroes and armies of the free races. Now the dark god rules the world of Aryth with an iron fist. Enslaved under the Shadow, the race of men leads an oppressed existence, and the Elves and Dwarves have retreated to distant forests and mountains, where their desperate resistance is slowly succumbing to the unyielding might of the Shadow. It is a time of overwhelming darkness. The fickle flame of hope is almost extinguished, its dying light guarded only by those few heroes who still dare to dream of freedom.

Good vs evil. Heroes vs villains. Low budget production values and charm? Yeah, I’m down. You can check out Midnight Chronicles online for free on Snag Films, it is also on Amazon Video (free with Amazon Prime membership).

Zombie Pirates

Hey everyone, it has been a while but we’re back spotlighting some fun free movies that you can find online. Today’s pick is Captain Z and the Leviathan of Terror from indie VOD distributor Indie Rights Movies.

The movie from 2014 is a horror comedy from director Steve Rudzinski, who also helmed indie horror flicks Red Christmas and Everyone Must Die! Captain Z does not take itself serious with a tone that has been compared to one of my favorite flicks, Army of Darkness. Low budget charm mixed with horror and comedy? You have my attention.

Official Description: In 1714 Captain Zachariah Zicari stops a group of possessed townsfolk from using a powerful amulet that would have released the ultimate evil, the Leviathan. Fast forward to 2014 and the amulet is again in the wrong hands. Can Captain Z save the earth? (Source: IMDB)

Throw some popcorn on and click here to watch Captain Z and the Leviathan of Terror for free! The movie stars  Zoltan Zilai, Madison Siple, Steve Rudzinski, and Aleen Isley.

Captain America Steve Rogers Issue1As much as I love Sam Wilson, I have to admit I’m glad to see Steve Rogers back in the blue and red and stripes. And I’m sorta happy that Marvel is taking things to a new level with Captain America and not feeling forced to have just one. Why not expand to multiple Captain Americas? The world is a big place and can use more true heroes.

The new series, which will premiere on Free Comic Book Day will be by the creative team of writer Nick Spencer and artist Jesus Saiz. Spencer also writes Sam Wilson: Captain America, and will continue to do so.

The writer described the approach to the series on Marvel.com and how it differs from Sam Wilson: Captain America; “I get to tell two very different kinds of Captain America stories. If you’re liking what we’re doing in Captain America: Sam Wilson, with a more topical, of-the-moment take, we’ve got a lot more of that coming your way; but if you’re looking for that classic, timeless version, the one that’s steeped in the Greatest Generation with Cap fighting the face of true evil, now we’ve got that for you as well. I think they’ll complement each other nicely.”

Are you excited that Steve Rogers is going to be Captain America again?

Zombie Beach

Poster of Zombie BeachOkay, so I’m totally back on a horror kick. Expect me to spotlight a lot more free movies like Bread Crumbs, Dragon Wasps, and Jack Frost 2. This past week I stumbled on this 2010 horror comedy flick from Indie Rights, Zombie Beach.

The movie was directed and stars Mukesh Asopa, who also helmed The Taste of Relation and Chamers Gate, the first a mystery drama and the second a crime flick. It co-stars Katherine Stefanski, Kamal Nandi, Kevin Tracy, Rick Cordeiro, Kristi Woods, and Wade Gamble. Zombie Beach has a bit of a throwback 70s vibe to it.

Description: Centuries ago, rather than have a full out war of the revelation, a deal was struck between the heroes of the good and the evil. The beach you visited was sanctioned to the evil. There, the undead could walk like living beings among us. (via IMDB)

You can watch Zombie Beach for free here! Leave a comment with your thoughts on the flick! And have you found any awesome horror movies that are available to watch online for free? Share them in our comments!

LegendLegend
Release Date: December 11, 2015
Studio: Universal
Director: Brian Helgeland (42, A Knight’s Tale)
Cast: Tom Hardy, Emily Browning, David Thewlis, Christopher Eccleston, Chazz Palminteri, Tara Fitzgerald, and Taron Egerton.
Plot: From Academy Award® winner Brian Helgeland (L.A. Confidential, Mystic River) comes the true story of the rise and fall of London’s most notorious gangsters, Reggie and Ron Kray, both portrayed by Tom Hardy in an amazing double performance.

Legend is a classic crime thriller taking us into the secret history of the 1960s and the extraordinary events that secured the infamy of the Kray twins. (Official Facebook Page)

Thoughts: What is better than Tom Hardy? Two Tom Hardy’s- In duel roles that already earned him a British Independent Film Award and have many thinking he’ll get an Oscar nom. As mentioned above, he takes on the roles of the Krey twins, infamous London gangsters. The trailer was intriguing, but honestly, I just want to see Legend to see how Hardy juggles the roles. It is always interesting to see how directors and actors handle having one person in two leading roles.

Check out these great movies…
