Can't Be Heaven

Today lets reach back to 2000 and an indie family comedy, Can’t Be Heaven (aka Forever Together), starring Michelle Trachtenberg, Kaley Cuoco, Diane Ladd, Gary Marshall and the “Karate Kid” Ralph Macchio. Directed by Richard Friedman, the movie deals with family, loss, and young love.

Official Description: Can’t Be Heaven is a magical, must-see romantic comedy for the whole family. Thirteen-year-old Danny is trying to cope with his father’s death, and it doesn’t help that he’s falling for his best friend, Julie. But Julie has serious a crush on the new kid in school, and she finds Danny’s affection more comical than convincing. While visiting his dad’s grave to play him a song he’s learning for the school band, Danny encounters the ghost of Hubbie Darling, a 1930s jazz saxophonist who is waiting for the spirit of his long-lost sweetheart. Hubbie takes Danny under his wing and gives him a few pointers on the fine art of romance. Eventually everyone finds their one and only- and this heartwarming tale will make you feel like falling in love all over again.

You can watch Can’t Be Heaven for free on Snag Films. Come back and let us know your thoughts.

An American Werewolf in London

An American Werewolf in London is easily one of the greatest horror movies of all time. John Landis’ classic werewolf movie follows David, who is traveling around Britain with a friend when they are attacked by a werewolf. I don’t want to spoil the flick for the few who have not seen it, but I can say that no one believes David and he is haunted by the victims of the beast. The acting, directing, cinematography, and (epic) makeup effects all hold up.

This month, you can check it out for free on Comet TV. It is airing on Friday, August 18 at 8P/7C, Saturday, August 19 at 8P/7C, Sunday, August 27 at 4P/3C, and Thursday, August 31 at 6P/5C. If you haven’t seen it and you enjoy horror flicks, trust me and give this a watch! Comet TV is also showing other classic horror movies, the including 1978 remake of Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Blacula, and it’s campy sequel Scream Blacula Scream. Check out their schedule for times/airings.

The Pit

The 2017 International Comic-Con in San Diego is in full swing, so what would be a better time to bring back The Pit?

Stargate PrequelStargate began on the big screen before moving to the small screen and spinning off into a number of different shows, and now is being revived as a digital series. Stargate Origins will consist of 10 episodes that are approximately 10 minutes long each and will follow the early adventures of Catherine Langford. The character was in the original movie and made scattered appearances in Stargate SG-1. The new series will be streamed on Stargate Command, a new subscription platform from MGM, and could be the first of many new adventures in the Stargate universe (hey, maybe they can eventually resolve the cliffhanger from Stargate Universes). Check out the teaser here.
The Walking Dead Comic-Con TeaserThe Walking Dead was back in Hall H at Comic-Con with a panel and new trailer for season eight. Go right ahead and watch the trailer for “All out War” (ripped form the pages of the comic) then come back and finish this article! Robert Kirkman, The Walking Dead creator and producer, commented that the season will be “very action-packed and very fast-paced,” which would be a bit different than past seasons. Dead is known to draw out events and arcs from comic, so it will be nice to contain the war to season 8 (and the final shot in the trailer hints at this big time!).

Defenders Comic-Con ImageAugust 18. We are one month away from Marvel and Netflix’s Defenders. Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist teaming up to save New York. First of course there is a new trailer. We get a great look at Sigourney Weaver’s villain along with our best look of the return of Elektra. The action and interactions between the four heroes is spot on and the series looks like it will be the perfect climax for the various Marvel/Netflix shows. Also discussed at the panel was the upcoming The Punisher series, which is spinning off from Daredevil’s second season and starring Jon Bernthal as the title character.

Have you been following this year’s Comic-Con? What have been the standouts for you?
