“My name is Duke Nukem – and I’m coming to get the rest of you alien bastards”

It took him long enough to get here, but “the king” is back in Duke Nukem Forever! The game was first announced back in 1997 and will finally see the light of day on May 3rd, 2011 (less than two months away). But it is okay, I have to imagine the aliens just took a lot longer than expected to regroup and plan a large scale attack on the Earth. Of course they are launching the same plan as in Duke Nukem 3D, where they’ve kidnapped a ton of beautiful Earth women. I just hope that Duke hasn’t gotten too lazy or fat to deal with them!

The game’s official description:

Put on your shades and prepare to step into the boots of Duke Nukem, whose legend has reached epic proportions in the years since his last adventure. The alien hordes are invading and only Duke can save the world. Pig cops, alien shrink rays and enormous alien bosses can’t stop our hero from accomplishing his goal: to save the world, save the babes and to be a bad-ass while doing it.

The King arrives with an arsenal of over-the-top weapons, non-stop action, and unprecedented levels of interactivity. This game puts the pedal to the metal and tongue firmly in cheek. Shoot hoops, lift weights, play pool, draw crude messages on whiteboards or check out the babes that occupy Duke’s life – that is if you can pull yourself away from destroying alien invaders. With hours and hours of over-the-top single player action, and a range of bodacious multiplayer modes, rest assured knowing the fun will last.

We can expect the same wisecracking/movie quotes Duke along with a large interactive world. Tired of fighting aliens? Then have Duke take a break to shoot hoops, lift weights, play some pinball, enjoy the pool, get your air hockey on, head to the slots, or knowing Duke, you can also likely drink and just watch strippers (that is if they all haven’t been kidnapped yet).

Along with Doom and Wolfenstein 3D, Duke Nukem 3D was a first person shooter that set the standard of what the games could be. I lost an endless amount of hours to it, and I can’t wait to lose more hours to Duke’s hijinks. Like all current games, it will feature an online multiplayer – but how will it be more than just a bunch of Dukes running around killing each other (can people play as the aliens also- because that would be damn cool).

You can preorder Duke Nukem Forever over here.

I very rarely post new images from upcoming movies – I mean, there is an endless supply and it gets really boring – but one of the new images from Relativity Media’s upcoming  Immortals features the future “Man of Steel” Henry Cavill.

The first image is of Cavill as Theseus, the future king of Athens.

The second image features Ironman 2 and The Wrestler‘s Mickey Rourke as King Hyperion.

The fantasy epic was directed by Tarsem Singh, who helmed The Cell and will be taking on The Brothers Grimm: Snow White next year. It also stars John Hurt, Kellan Lutz, Stephen Dorff, and Freida Pinto. It hits theaters on November 11th, 2011.

So much going on in the world of TV, lets focus on some of that today!

  • Steven Spielberg’s upcoming TNT sci-fi series Falling Skies finally has a release date! It will launch with a 2 hour premiere on June 19 at 9pm, than ove into a regular Sunday 10pm timeslot. The new alien centered series stars TV vet Noah Wyle (ER). If it is half as good as Spielberg’s past sci-fi TV effort Taken, I’ll be tuning in.
  • TNT has also announced dates for the new seasons of its original programming. Men of a Certain Age with Ray Romano and the great Scott Bakula returns on June 1st at 10pm for the last 6 episodes of its second season. June 1st will also see the premiere of Mark-Paul Gosselaar (Saved by the Bell) legal series Franklin Bash. It will have a 10 episode first season. June 14th will see the launch of new seasons of both the Jason Lee starer Memphis Beat and the Jada Pinkett Smith hospital drama Hawthorne, where she is joined this season by singer/actor Marc Anthony. June 26th sees the return of crime series Leverage and July 11th is the start of new seasons of veteran shows The Closer and Rizoli & Isles.
  • I wonder who would play Charlie Sheen in a TV Movie about this rise/fall and “winning”? Sheen has endorsed Rob Lowe to take over for him on Two and a Half Men… he might make a good Charlie Sheen though. Hmmmm. Maybe Sheen could even finance the movie, he just filed a law suit against Warner Brothers for 100 million dollars. Dr. Evil style yo.
  • My Future Girlfriend, the new webseries from the creators of We Need Girlfriends finally has a release date! Ragtag Productions will release the first episode of the five episode sci-fi influenced series on April 1st! Hopefully we’ll get a teaser to post soon!
  • This past Monday House took on zombies in a dream sequence and back at Halloween we saw Community faced with a zombie like invasion, what other shows would you like to see the characters take on zombies in? How would members of The Office fare? I think the doctors at Grey’s would get eaten pretty quickly. Chuck and company would easily defend the Buy More from the undead. Sound off in the comments with what shows and characters you’d like to see face a zombie invasion!
  • Getting rid of an old computer? Don’t forget that you want to clear the information and recycle the electronics the right way, using a company like Round2.net .

Sometimes when a show runs for a lot of seasons, they can run out of stories to tell. That is not what happened on Monday night on House though, no, the writers just got damn creative in this dream sequence where House faced down with zombies! (click the image to watch)

You know what? If House went in the direction of a zombie apocalypse, I think I’d start watching it again…

The new poster for Thor is striking and decently cool. It seperates itself from the happy-go-lucky Ironman posters and the recent Captain America poster as well. Marvel Studios have been pretty good at advertising its heroes and I can’t wait to see more and more as they build towards Joss Whedon’s Avengers. I just hope the rumors that the character crossovers will stop after Avengers are untrue. When you shape a universe so well, why wreck or less that go to waste?

You can check out the second full trailer to Thor over at Apple. Every trailer gets a little bit better. My anticipation for the fantasy flick is rising!

Next Wednesday, March 9th, is the conclusion to the current “Bullseye” storyline running through PunisherMax. Two of the most badass characters in the Marvel Comics Universe, The Punisher and Bullseye are going head to head and throwing everything in their arsenals at each other. I don’t know about you, but I want to be there to witness this.

“Bullseye” conclusion. The final epic confrontation between Frank Castle and Bullseye, as the maniac assassin hits Punisher with everything in his arsenal, including a dark secret that cuts Frank to his core. Even if Frank survives, he will never again be the same.

PunisherMax #11 was written by Jason Aaron with art by Steve Dillon. Also hitting stands next week from Marvel Comics is Sigil #1, Venom #1, X-Men Legacy #246, and Onslaught Unleashed #2, among other titles.

In the first part of “How to Get Your Film Seen: (Part 3) Your Website” we discussed why you need a homepage in addition to your social networking profiles, design, web hosting, domain names, and a few different styles that your website can take. Today I want to expand on what we talked about last time.

Not only is it a good idea to get a website, but it is an even better idea to learn just how to build a website. Websites can become very costly after you consider the yearly price of hosting and domain names and then take into the account of the actual design costs and maintenance. As a low budget filmmaker, you have already likely taught yourself how to edit and use camera equipment, why not also learn HTML and CSS coding? Just a little knowledge can get you a very long way. In the very least you can beg someone to do the initial design work on the site and you can comfortably edit the pages by yourself, successfully avoiding the costly maintenance.

Also touching on what I mentioned in the last column, if you create the website around a blog platform, like WordPress, then you’ll be able to easily edit all of the pages via an Online editor. WordPress themes are completely customizable and you can manipulate them into exactly how you want your website to look.
