We talk a lot about “Hollywood” television series and movies with well known actors and big budgets, but thanks to the internet normal people get the chance to get their work out there and have millions of possibly viewers.

Today we’re talking a look at That Show with Michael Rakosi, a webisode series talk show that puts real men into a room with a camera to talk about anything that comes up (sans politics and sports, but hey we have more than enough shows that feature political and sports talk).

One of the first things you’ll notice with That Show is that it is very simplistic. No fancy graphics or special effects. The picture is clear and the sound is good, which makes it very watchable. It just depends on if you connect with the guys featured on the show and if you like the topics that they are going over.

In the first episode, “Youse Guys”, they talk about class and what it takes to be a man. In the other eight episodes they chat about such topics as their fears, what it is like killing people in war, spiritual beliefs and sexuality, and stressful jobs among other topics.  Most of the episodes have more than 20 thousand views and they vary in length from seven to fifteen minutes. That is pretty impressive for any webseries, let alone one with a bunch of guys chatting about real life in a room.

Chuckvs Freddy

Chuck has had a non-stop revolving door of pretty cool guest stars this season, including Dolph Lundgren, Linda Hamilton, the Old Spice guy, Lou Ferrigno, Olivia Munn, Eric roberts, Stone Cold Steve Austin, and Nicole Richie, but has he finally met his match with Robert Englund, aka Freddy Kruger? In tonight’s all new Halloween themed episode, Englund takes on the role of Dr. Stanley Wheelwright, a (mad) scientist that has created a nightmare-inducing toxin. Can Chuck and the gang stop him from releasing it? Or even worse, selling it to someone even worse who could mass produce it and use it as a weapon?  Linda Hamilton returns tonight as Chuck’s mom and hopefully we will get some information on where she has been and if she is as evil as she appears to be. I’m hoping not. Chuck airs at 8pm on NBC.

Tonight, Kevin Smith will have a live Q&A with fans and will be screening his new comedy “Too Fat for 40” on EPIX. You already know who Kevin Smith is, but do you know what EPIX is? It is a joint venture by Paramount, Lionsgate, and MGM, and is an online database of movies and original programming. They are trying to merge the experience of a cable TV channel, a VOD series and an online source for movies. some of their current movies include recent movies Ironman, Star Trek, Gamer, and Brothers, classic films including Teen Wolf and Stargate, along with Kevin Smith’s new special, they recently added Louis C.K.’s Hilarious.

EPIX has released two new clips from the special. In the first clip, Kevin Smith talks about working with Seth Rogen and a special request that the actor made to him on the set on Zack and Miri Make a Porno.

In the next clip Kevin Smith talks about Cop Out and shares a story with Bruce Willis.

You can score a two week free trial to EPIX by heading here.

The Walking Dead

The best ongoing comic series on the market, The Walking Dead, is making the leap to television next weekend!  AMC and writer/director Frank Darabont, along with the comic’s creator Robert Kirkman, are bringing the series’ black and white pages to life.  I must admit, the casting is pretty spot on and the trailers have given me a lot of hope.  Also taking into account AMC’s great track record (including one of my favorite current shows and three time Emmy winning best drama Mad Men), us fans should not really be nervous about the series.

Here are three new pictures from the series’ first couple of episodes:

Team Coco Live

For 24 hours Team Coco were broadcasting live from their offices on the Warner Brothers Lot.  To fill the many hours, staff members and interns read Shakespeare, held puppet shows, played Punishment Bingo, did some stand up comedy, 80s style aerobics, lasso-ed interns, and there was even an awkward first date that was interrupted by a bear (who sadly didn’t masturbate).

One of my personal favorite things occurred just after 3am as the stand up routine got taken over by a zombie attack. Check it out…

You can watch a ton of videos from the 24 hours of live broadcasting here. Conan begins airing on November 8th at 11pm on TBS.

Okay, so we are very light on new releases today, but we do have some interesting stuff on DVD and Blu-Ray. Lets take a look at what we have…

Predators
Based on a story by and produced by Robert Rodriguez, this film directed by Nimród Antal was looking to relaunch and revitalize the Predator horror franchise. With a cast that includes Oscar winner Adrien Brody, Topher Grace, Laurence Fishburne and Danny Trejo, the film followed a group of convicts and army types who are transported to an alien world and hunted for sport. The film is coming out on both DVD and Blu-Ray.

Agora
A historical drama from Alejandro Amenábar with Rachel Weisz, Max Minghella, and Oscar Isaac. Weisz portrays Hypatia of Alexandria. The film came out in a very limited release. I honestly haven’t even heard of it until now.

That is it in terms of new releases, but we have a couple cool reissues.

Seven Samurai
The classic action flick from Akira Kurosawa is coming out in Blu-Ray as part of the Criterion Collection. In the film, a poor village is under attack by bandits when they turn to seven out of work samurai to protect them. If you haven’t seen the film, it is worth checking out.

The Bionic Woman – Season 1
The hit action series from the seventies is finally on DVD. The series was a spinoff from The Six Million Dollar Man. In it, Lindsay Wagner is Jaime Sommers, a young woman and tennis professional who is nearly killed in a skydiving accident and is rebuilt with bionic parts that give her superhuman powers.

Other notable Blu-Ray releases:

  • The Rocky Horror Picture Show (35th Anniversary Edition)
  • Apocalypse Now (Three-Disc Full Disclosure Edition)
  • Psycho (50th Anniversary Edition)

What will you be taking home this week?
