American Idol Winner

Last night, Lee DeWyze was named the winner of the 9th American Idol competition… wait, didn’t he win the past two years? Oh, sorry, that was Kris Allen and David Cook. Some times I mix up people when they look and sound identical.

I think the real question here is if Idol is even able to choose someone different anymore. I have nothing against Lee, Kris, or David, but they are completely interchangeable and cookie cutter.

I think it is time for American Idol to take a break between competitions, maybe a year or two, and then come back fresh. This could give a crop of new singers that haven’t tried out for the show every year for the past few, could give time for people to forget about the recently retired Simon, and could maybe, just maybe produce a winner that is not identical to the past few years. In the very least, it might give past winners the time to grow as artists and not be over shadowed by the next season of the competition.

Have Cook and Allen even released albums? Oh, I blinked and missed them?

I recently watched the trailer for Christopher Nolan’s new sci-fi thriller Inception, and I honestly have no idea what it is about. Dream invasion and manipulation? Mind-f#&$ing? Visually it looks amazing, and it is Nolan, so I’m there. A few new character posters have been released. This first one features Leonardo DiCaprio…

And this next one is of Joseph Gordon-Levitt…

Inception, Christopher Nolan

The rest of the film’s stellar cast includes Ken Watanabe, Marion Cotillard, Ellen Page, Cillian Murphy, Tom Berenger, and Sir Michael Caine.  What do you think about the posters? Excited about Nolan’s next flick?

ABC, Lost, Ben

The end has arrived.  I’m excited, worried, perplexed, elated, anxious, happpy, (etc/every emotion possible) about the Lost series finale. ABC starts the festivities at 7pm with 2 hours of series recap, then the finale starts at 9pm and goes on for two and a half hours. I’ll be signing off the Internet after this post, shutting off my phone, and will be watching the finale live. Come back with your thoughts, and after a few days and at least one rewatching, I will hopefully be able to post mine. Enjoy!

Tonight @ 8pm on CBS is the season (and possibly series) finale of Ghost Whisperer. In the episode, Jennifer Love Hewitt’s Melinda has to confront a poltergeist that is threatening her son. How will the series wrap up? While CBS has canceled the supernatural drama, there are talks that ABC might pick it up for midseason. While I’m not a regular viewer, I hope the series gets another season (or two). The show deserves a proper send off after being on the air for so long.

Also on tonight…

8PM

  • ABC: Wife Swap (Reality)
  • NBC: Friday Night Lights (Sports Drama)
  • MNT: Friday Night SmackDown! (Wrestling)

9PM

  • ABC: Primetime: What Would You Do? (News)
  • CBS: Medium (Sci-Fi Drama)
  • FOX: Kitchen Nightmares (Reality)
  • NBC: Dateline NBC (News)
  • SYFY: Stargate Universe (Sci-Fi Drama)

10PM

  • ABC: 20/20 (News)
  • CBS: Miami Medical (Medical Drama)
  • E!: The Soup (Comedy Clipshow)
  • SYFY: Merlin (Fantasy)

Robert Pattinson and the Cullens family get the spotlight in the new Eclipse poster. The film comes out on June 30th.

I’m not a fan of the Twilight series, but boy are they putting these out fast.  Can’t we get Terminator or Die Hard movies out like this? A series I’d actually want to see every year…

Smallville, Lois and Clark

We all expected it, but now the CW has confirmed it! Smallville‘s 10th season will be its last!  Here is an official press release by the network:

Entering its explosive tenth season, Smallville culminates in the epic rise of the world’s ultimate hero — Superman. Finally working alongside the intrepid Lois Lane at the Daily Planet, Clark Kent had accepted his destiny as the guardian of Metropolis when General Zod arrived, challenging Clark’s authority and power.

Just when the romance between Clark and Lois began to bloom, Clark was called into duty by the legendary Justice Society and his own burgeoning league of heroes to fight the gathering dark forces. As season nine drew to a close, Clark sacrificed himself to save the world from Zod. Season ten promises the classic reuniting of the timeless romance between Clark and Lois, and brings Clark face to face with his destiny as he overcomes his final trials and forges the iconic identity that will be known for all time.

The series stars Tom Welling as Clark Kent, Erica Durance as Lois Lane, Justin Hartley as Oliver Queen and Cassidy Freeman as Tess Mercer

Noticeably absent from the cast list is Allison Mack who has portrayed Chloe Sullivan since the beginning of the show (the last remaining original cast member besides Welling). Rumor has it that she will continue in a limited role through guest appearances.  Hopefully the series will be able to convince Michael Rosenbaum to reprise Lex Luthor before the end of its run. What better way to end the series than having all of the pieces in place for the Superman mythology?

After an awesome season finale, I’m really looking forward to the next season of Smallville. I think this is the first season I’m actually excited about since its premiere. Hints about Darkseid and Clark getting the suit. How awesome was that glimpse of the future?
