It has been a while since we posted daily filmmaking tips and resources and I aim to change that. Here is a full frame storyboard template that I designed a long time ago.  It is a very basic template image that you can open and print in preview, word or any photo program.

Storyboard Template Full Frame

I like this particular format, because it allows for 8 smaller images per page, instead of wasting time on full size images. Personally, I go a bit overboard and like to storyboard all of my scenes (especially when I’m doing a short). Whether you like to go overboard like me, or just sketch out some of your action sets, I hope that you find this template useful!

You can save a high resolution version of the Full Frame Storyboard Template here.

Ragtag Productions

Ragtag Productions, the brains behind the awesome webseries We Need Girlfriends, have announced their newest webseries, My Future Girlfriend. An excerpt from the press release:

Ragtag Productions is proud to announce they have begun production on their latest webseries “MY FUTURE GIRLFRIEND.” This five-part mini-movie is described as a “romantic comedy Terminator” and marks the team’s first foray into sci-fi comedy. It follows Clark, a schlubby underachiever, who is visited by Kelly, his girlfriend from five years in the future who tells him that due to a rift in the timeline, she must help him fall in love with the present day version of herself.

Ragtag’s first webseries, “We Need Girlfriends,” gained over one million visitors a month to its official site. It was written about in the New York Times, Huffington Post, Slate, USA Today, Yahoo News, The Guardian Unlimited and numerous other publications, before it was sold to Sony Pictures and CBS as a half-hour pilot script, which is currently in development.

“My Future Girlfriend” will be directed by Brian Amyot based on a script by Steven Tsapelas. It will be produced by Amyot, Tsapelas and Patrick Cohen.

I was a big fan of the Iron Man comic while growing up and thought that the first Iron Man flick was perfect.  Yahoo has posted a new teaser poster for the superhero’s sequel (shown below), and it features fan favorite War Machine!

What do you think? Will your butt be in the theater on May 7th? Are you excited to see War Machine?

TV Tonight 11-30-09

Tonight at 9pm on the CW is an all new episode of Gossip Girl. The episode has a very dysfunctional Thanksgiving dinner where Serena is forced to share thanks with the man’s wife who she is having an affair with.  Also on tonight, and keeping with the Holiday spirit is the classic Christmas toon, How the Grinch Stole Christmas and the modern animated classic, Shrek the Halls. Both specials are on ABC, starting at 8pm.  I love the Holidays and all of the specials and themed episodes that it brings along with it.

What else is on tonight?

  • ABC: How the Grinch Stole Christmas/Shrek the Halls (Holiday Specials)
  • CW: One Tree Hill (Melodrama)
  • FOX: House (Medical Drama)
  • NBC: Heroes (Sci-Fi Drama)

  • ABC: Find My Family (Reality)
  • CW: Gossip Girl (Teen Drama)
  • FOX: Lie to Me (Crime Drama)
  • NBC: Trauma (Medical Drama)

  • Jay Leno Show (Talk/Sketch Comedy)

It will be interesting to see if the ratings for the Jay Leno Show begin to rise as all other shows in its timeslot go on hiatus and it continues to air new episodes.  The next few weeks will really show if this experiment by NBC will work in the long run.

I’m a big fan of ItsJustSomeRandomGuy’s YouTube superhero spoof series that features toys. I’ve spotlighted them in the past (also here) and have to do so again with their genus Twilight/New Moon spoof using the Joker and Harley Quinn.

The Pit v3 Logo

Hey everyone, trying to keep things fresh with a new logo as we approach the end of the year. TV is mostly taking a break, but this is about the time we get a big push in theaters. We have at least 5 big films hitting theaters on Christmas alone.

  • I’m still shaking my head over the success of New Moon.  The sheer fact that the movie could open so huge when the first film was easily one of the most poorly put together films in recent memory disappoints me.  The only bright side is the fact that they might make Breaking Dawn, which sounds hysterical.
  • This week I’ll be seeing Up in the Air in theaters, and so should you. Jason Reitman + George Cloony = Awesome.
  • Funny Video: The gang over at College Humor take on a Grease classic.
  • Interested in casting your favorite stars and releasing your dream movie? Then you should try Hollywood the Game. The Internet’s longest running Hollywood Simulation Game and Community.
  • This week from DC Comics is Superman: World of New Krypton #10.  The series, which pulled Superman from Earth, has been one of the best stories featuring big blue in a long time. Maybe all he needed was to be away from the constant crossovers of the DCU. You can check out a preview for the new issue on DC Comic’s official site.
  • FOX’s 24 will be returning for two nights of episodes on Sunday, January 17th at 9pm and Monday, January 18th.  The network’s main powerhouse American Idol will be returning the same week (also for two episodes), on Tuesday, January 12th and Wednesday, January 13th at 8pm.
