The scope here was great and that was my favorite part of it. The cast was amazing, the writing top notch, and the directing was great. I liked this more than The Avengers which I felt became too cluttered as it went along. Lots of recognizable faces in this one. Definitely better then Batman Begins, but just a step down from The Dark Knight. Overall, this is a great way to end one of the greatest trilogies in film history. Nolan did with superhero films what Coppola did with mob movies. He reached and got to a bar higher than what anybody would ever expect from a film like this.

I wanted to like this one. I really did. The cinematography was great, the visual appeal was there, the casting was there (I'm a big fan of both Denzel Washington and Gary Oldman). When it is all said and done, this movie was a piece of crap. It's a film that tries to build to something, come up with a clever twist, and be thought provoking at the same time and it fails on all levels and I blame the script. This film could have been something so much more and I hate all the potential that was wasted here. I simply did not like this film and I don't recommend it. Washington, Oldman, and The Hughes Brothers have done better work. If only another rewrite was done to beef up the content maybe this film would've been good, but it is only "meh" at best. Want to watch a post apocalyptic film? Go see something else, anything else, just don't watch this.

This is the year's best comedy, hand's down. Absolutely hilarious and a instant classic. It is amazing that this type of film hasn't been done this well, since the premise is just ripe for adaptation. Seth MacFarlane brings his a-game as a voice actor, writer, and director. Mark Wahlberg shows again that he's a funnier actor then most. I laughed my ass off throughout the entire film and found it hard to catch my breath at times. Here's hoping there's a sequel.
This is a film that's going to go down with other films of this generation as surefire classics such as The Hangover, Anchorman, Dodgeball, Knocked Up, and Forgetting Sarah Marshall, amongst others. The only gripe I'd give this film is that the directing was a little rusty at times, and you could tell this was Seth MacFarlane's first film. Other then that though, it accomplishes what it sets out to be -- a laugh a minute comedy. -Quantum

What a terrible film. John Cena is not an actor, the villain sucks, this is an action take on Saw that fails on so many levels. What a waste of time and resources on this film. I kind of wanted to like it, but I just couldn't. Want to watch a decent action flick? This is not it. The only good thing about this film is that it somehow got made. Why? I don't know, John Cena is not an action star nor an actor.

This is one of those films that generally surprised me. Going in, I didn't have high expectations. After all, Jonah Hill's last comedy was The Sitter, but man did this movie bring the laughs. Channing Tatum is turning into the new incarnation of Mark Wahlberg, an actor known for his mostly serious movies who's straight out awesome at comedy (but unlike Marky Mark, Channing's actually a decent dramatic actor). There's a ton of fun cameos in this pic, the gags are hilarious, and the movie delivers on multiple levels. Definitely a guilty pleasure, it's one of Jonah Hill's best and a sequel is definitely on its way. The trailer undersells what's likely going to be one of 2012's best comedies. -Quantum

Watching this really was like looking through a window directly into the past. A fun movie all around, this really did deserve the recognition it got. However, had this film been released in the last couple of years, it would not have won Best Motion Picture at the Academy Awards. The movie really captivated my attention right from the beginning, and it held it right until the end. Jean Dujardin and Bernice Bejo excelled and could really make a career of it in Hollywood if they can work on their accents like Christoph Waltz did. All in all, I highly recommended this film, it was worth the price of admission. -Quantum

I'll be honest, I saw the first film in segments and thus it hindered my viewing experience, but, this sequel really does up the game. The action scenes are spectacular, the comedy and the mystery are great, and overall the movie is just a ton of fun. Sure, this is not the most intellectual of fare, but for a stylized action flick it still is smart and action packed. Every action set piece was great and I was glued to my seat. I definitely recommend this sequel. -Quantum

Contraband

2012-02-01 01:22
I didn’t really know what to expect when I went to see this. I wasn’t particularly impressed by the trailers and ads, but I have to say — this film surprised me in more ways then one. This is a slick, smart, dark caper the likes of which I haven’t seen in awhile. This film hits the right notes so many times it’s not surprising that Kate Beckinsale and Giovanni Ribisi would take small, supporting roles here (when they’re bonified stars, Kate moreso than Giovanni). If you’re looking for a smart crime film with nice action set pieces thrown in for good measure — Contraband is it. A real surprise, and you likely won’t be disappointed watching this film. -Quantum

I’m not really a fan of motion capture films — all of the ones I have seen have generally disappointed me — so when I heard that this film was going to be motion captured, I groaned. However, this movie blew me away. From the opening title credits right until the end, this film had me glued to my seat. It brought me back to when I use to watch the Tintin cartoon as a child and well, it was just good olde fashioned fun.
This film features the single best shot of Spielberg’s career and proves that Spielberg is a master of what he does. This should’ve gotten an Oscar nomination because it is just so much fun. The best motion capture film ever made. I’m looking forward to the sequel. A definite must see for all fans of Spielberg, Tintin, and/or animation fans. It’s just that good.

Zombie Apocalypse
2/5
2011-11-23 01:36
Have you ever turned on the SyFy Channel on a lazy Sunday morning to watch one of those creature features it airs so regularly? Did you start watching it and realized it was much more horrible then the old Roger Corman z-movies? Did you make it to the end and find that a production company called “The Asylum” or “The Global Asylum” was behind it? Did you go onto there website and find that they specialize in mockbusters and creature a vs creature b movies?
Well, Zombie Apocalypse aired on the channel and was a The Asylum productio, but guess what, it wasn’t half bad. Really, it’s a standard zombie movie with survivors fighting there way to an island. It’s standard stuff and it had its one standard yesteryear star which was Ving Rhames. Ving plays the tough black dude role with very little emotion. He’s mean, he’s angry, and he gets to wield a chainsaw. This movie had decent effects for a Syfy film and it featured okay performances. The only thing that truly separates this film from other zombie films is the ZOMBIE TIGER at the end. Yes, that’s the big original twist and really, other than that, there’s nothing in this movie that you haven’t seen before.
This movie is better then the Day of the Dead remake (which also starred Ving Rhames) and other low budget zombie films, but it does not meet up to the standards of the great zombie films. In all honesty, this film is best viewed if you want to turn your brain off for 90 minutes and have some fun watching zombies eating humans. With that said, it’s better then the average SyFy film but don’t expect anything truly spectacular here. -Quantum

A Very Harold and Kumar Christmas
3.5/5
2011-11-22 01:38
This is a strong comedy, unfortunately, like The Hangover Part II, it weakens itself as being apart of a very strong franchise. It is hard to believe that neither John Cho, Kal Penn, or Neil Patrick Harris have been able to explode as silver screen stars. The film features some hilarious running jokes and will please fans of the series. However, the film drags on in places and the usually hilarious NPH appearance (though they do poke fun of his personal life in a great way) is a little too short as he barely factors into the film’s plot like he did in the other two films and is regulated to more an “extend cameo” role.
Needless to say I saw this sober (I don’t smoke) and it would probably be much funnier under the influence unlike the other films, which were hilarious even if you were sober. Oh yeah, the 3D and Christmas settings were un-needed but I believe that’s part of the joke. All in all, this is one of the more solid comedies I’ve seen all year even if it’s weaker then Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle and Harold & Kumar Escape Guantanamo Bay.

This is an odd sports movie, in that you see very little sports. This is the story of sports, baseball in particular, from the back office point of view. The movie follows Oakland Athletics General Manager Billy Beane (Brad Pitt) in MLB’s 2002 season when he met a young economics grad (Jonah Hill) with a radical approach to building a team. The film charts the ups and downs of the team, but more importantly, it shows us how they changed baseball forever. Pitt and Hill give strong, understated performances in an overall satisfying picture. Don’t expect to see a lot of sports action though; baseball is, after all, the thinking man’s game. -Lucian

An excellent real world thriller. The performances are great all across the board, but especially from Jude Law, Matt Damon, and Laurence Fishburne. The score is eerie and the cinematography even more so. This movie will definitely give you the chills. The only downside to this film is the certain cop out that happens and sometimes the film is a little too cluttered for its own good- they could have easily eliminated one of its many “ensemble storylines” and overall it would have still felt whole. Otherwise, this is a film that I highly recommend. -Quantum

What a waste of talent. The film falls flat on almost every level. The jokes feel dated and it is easily Nick Frost & Simon Pegg's worst efforts as both actors and writers. It really is a disappointment on multiple levels. The only saving grace in this film is Seth Rogen's voice over as Paul because if it weren't fort him, the film would be all but dead in the water. If you must see it, wait to watch it on TV, but just skip it and instead rewatch Hot Fuzz & Shaun of the Dead until Frost & Pegg reunite with Edgar Wright to finish the "Blood & Ice Cream Trilogy". -Quantum
