Marvel Studios has released a poster for their new upcoming animated series, The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.  Featured in the poster are four of Marvel’s “big guns”, Hulk, Ironman, Thor, and Captain America. I really like the look and animation style of the new series. Reminds me of the classic Ironman and Fantastic Four series from the 90s.

Avengers Cartoon

Missing from the poster are Ant Man and The Wasp, both who have been confirmed to be in the series.  This Saturday at Comic Con, Marvel and Disney will be premiering the first two episodes, then the series is expected to start in the fall.  The art is pretty cool and the team lineup is perfect. I really hope that the series is good and that the upcoming film will be even better!

While on the subject of the film version, at Comic Con we finally got confirmation from Joss Whedon himself, that he will indeed be directing The Avengers for Marvel Comics.  With Ed Norton out as Bruce Banner, I am hoping that Marvel reveals who will be the new Hulk at Comic Con. Rumors are pointing towards Mark Ruffalo, who I think is an excellent actor and has the look for Banner.  Robert Downey Jr, Samuel L Jackson, Chris Hemsworth, and Chris Evans are all confirmed to be reprising their roles as Ironman, Nick Fury, Thor, and Captain America respectably.  We haven’t had any word on who might be portraying Ant-Man or Wasp, who usually get the short end of the stick (see above poster, also).  I could picture someone like Nathan Fillion as Ant-Man, but I have no ideas for Wasp.

Who do you think could fill the roles?

A poster for the new animated flick, Megamind, starring the voices of Brad Pitt, Jonah Hill, Tina Fey, and Will Ferrell. From Madagascar director Tom McGrath, the movie is a satirical take on superheroes with Pitt as Metro Man, a goodiegoodie superhero and Farrell as the villain and title character, Megamind.

Megamind

The Dreamworks Animated movie comes out in November. If you are going to the San Diego Comic Con International, the movie will be having a panel on Thursday July 22nd at 10am. On hand from the film will be Will Ferrell, Tina Fey, and Jonah Hill and Tom McGrath. They will be having a question and answer session along with showcasing all new footage from the film.

The film sounds like it can be a lot of fun. Originally, Robert Downey Jr was slated to appear as the Megamind (originally named “Master Mind”), but had to pull out due to scheduling conflicts. I would have preferred him to Will Ferrell who doesn’t show nearly as much range as Downey. Brad Pitt is a nice addition as the steriotypical superhero. Jonah Hill is always a great addition also.

Are you looking forward to Megamind? Will it be a new Incredibles or will it be as awful as Monsters vs Aliens?

Batman Beyond, Issue 1

DC Comics is going back to the future with the return of Batman Beyond in a new 6 issue mini series. Written by Adam Beechen, an Emmy nominated animation writer who has worked on Batman: The Brave and the Bold, with art by Ryan Benjamin.

When a new villain begins targeting the Dark Knight’s old foes, the future’s Batman, Terry McGinnis, must search into Bruce Wayne’s past and find out who the villain is. I was a big fan of Batman Beyond and I’m surprised that it has taken this long to revisit the characters.  The show was innovation and an interesting twist on the future of the Batman universe.

The animated series lasted for three seasons and spun off two movies, including the fan loved Return of the Joker, which had a darker tone then the series but really showed what they could do with the characters.

Toy Story 3

Pixar’s Toy Story 3 is finally out in theaters! If that alone isn’t cool enough, HeyUGuys has posted a ton of photos and videos of concept art for the film. You can check out all of the art here.

I can’t even begin to describe how excited I am for the animated flick. I’ll be seeing it tomorrow afternoon and I’ll be posting my thoughts later in the night. Are you excited for Toy Story 3? Are you seeing it in 3d? Have you already seen it? Post your thoughts below!

That’s right, one of my childhood favorites is coming back!

Thundercats Poster

Cartoon Network is bringing back the classic 80s action fantasy cartoon ThunderCats, which will now be in anime form.  The series is being produced by Warner Bros. Animation and Studio 4C, the company behind The Animatrix and Gotham Knights.

Also announced by Cartoon Network is an animated series based on the DC Comics superhero Green Lantern. Way to get my attention Cartoon Network, I’ll be watching both of these.

Cars Animated Toon

A couple weeks ago we reported about Pixar’s new Up short, George and AJ and now they have a new Cars Toon, UFM: Unidentified Flying Mater.  In the short, the ever lovable Mater is telling Lightning McQueen the story about when he befriended a UFO. As always, the short is fun, inventive, and entertaining. I can not wait for Cars 2 in 2011!

You can watch Mater (and a few other familiar cars) in UFM: Unidentified Flying Mater via YouTube or Facebook.

George and AJ, the two unlucky Shady Oaks workers who tried to pick up Carl Fredricksen in Disney/Pixar’s Up, have gotten their own short. What happened after Carl used balloons to lift his house to freedom? Well, it would appear that it caused quite a headache for them…

The short film was written and directed by Josh Cooley. Up is currently available in both Blu-Ray and DVD.
