Back in 2009 we talked about Steven Spielberg and DreamWorks TV striking a deal to bring Stephen King’s Under the Dome to television, and after three years the project is finally happening! Out is DreamWorks TV and in is Spielberg’s Amblin Television along with CBS Television Studios and producers Neal Baer, Stephen King, Justin Falvey, Darryl Frank, Stacey Snider and Brian K. Vaughan. The show is skipping the pilot stage and going straight to series with a 13-episode pickup slated to premiere in summer 2013.Under the Dome focuses on a small New England town that is cut off fromt he rest of the world by an invisible force field that causes ecological effects and a fight for control within the isolated population. It is perfectly suited for being adapted for television.

From out of the blue it looks like the potential DC Comic Booster Gold television series is still a possibility thanks to SyFy channel and Arrow showrunner Andrew Kreisberg, who is heading up the potential Gold series. IGN asked Kreisberg for an update on the project and he told them; “Booster Gold is going in in the next couple weeks before Christmas. We’ll see what happens from there. It’s such a different project even though they’re both DC Comics properties. Booster is much more candy and popcorn, being about time travel and changing the future and being a superhero who can fly. But they’re both super-fun projects. As a lifelong DC Comics fan, I am beyond blessed to be working on these projects with all these amazing characters.” There is so much potential for the series. Timecop meets superheroes with a lighthearted/comedic underlining. If they are allowed to use other DC characters throughout time it would be even better. Have Booster Gold travel to the golden and silver ages of the DC Comics universe and showcase different heroes and villains that are well known. I just hope that SyFy doesn’t hold it back and make the series take place in present day.

I usually don’t do this for TV (that is PJ’s department), but there is a lot going on and shows are finally new again!

  • Oh god why. Somebody please take away their passports… MTV has revealed that the forth season of Jersey Shore will shoot in Italy. Do we really need these lowlifes making Italy look bad with their antics? Please just cancel this disgusting show.
  • Chuck is still the best show on television. If you don’t watch it… you should! Thankfully for you the last couple of episodes can be viewed online!
  • I did not see this coming, but Regis Philbin is exiting Live with Regis and Kelly after 27 years hosting the morning program. On the program he said it was due to his age and a desire to retire, but behind the scenes reports point towards his ego and wanting more money when the network wanted to lower his salary after dwindling ratings and increased vacation time. Not for nothing, I think the show could be a lot better without him. He has been “sleep walking” for years. Give the spot to someone like Anderson Cooper, who has always been very entertaining in his guest spots.
  • Nathan Lane is returning to the funniest show on TV, Modern Family, on an upcoming episode. In the episode, Lane joins Mitch and Cam on a “boys night out” that Ed O’Neill’s Jay stumbles into. Hilarity ensues.
  • Booster Gold and Blue Beetle have been cast for an upcoming Smallville episode (I smell a spinoff!). Sebastian Spence, who has appeared in such TV shows as Battlestar Galactica and Supernatural will be BB and Eric Martsolf, who has appeared on Days of Our Lives and Passions among other TV shows, will be the time traveling hero Booster Gold. I can not wait for this episode, which was scripted by comic book writer Geoff Johns.

Recently, DC Comics put together a test video for a proposed Blue Beetle live-action TV series. I gotta say, I dig it. Watch it below…

The proposed series would follow the latest incarnation of the Blue Beetle, Jaime Reyes, a teenager from Texas who the scarab chooses as its next host. In his short timespan as the hero, Reyes has been a member of the Teen Titans and has appeared in the animated series Batman: The Brave and the Bold. At Comic-Con, it was revealed that he would be appearing in an episode of Smallville‘s final season along with fan favorite hero Booster Gold. Could DC be hoping to use Smallville to spin the character into his own series? It seems like a smart plan to me.
