Entertainment News from The Pit, Movies, TV, Games, Awesome

The fall television season is in full swing as the summer movie season is officially over. Surprisingly we still had a decent weekend of films with Ben Affleck’s The Town opening to number 1 with the Emma Stone starer Easy A in a close second. What else is going on in the world of entertainment?

  • Horror legend Wes Craven has been giving away a ton of signed My Soul to Take posters via his Twitter. The flick was written and directed by Craven and focuses on a small town where a serial killer returns and stalks seven children who share his birthday. Sounds like a nice old school slasher to me. Welcome back Mr. Craven.
  • Speaking of Chuck, yesterday was the premiere! If you missed it go watch when it is posted online!!! The premiere guest starred Linda Hamilton and Dolph Lundgren… Yeah, it was awesome. Chuck airs on NBC at 8pm.
  • Marvel Comics have announced their latest Dark Tower series, Dark Tower: The Gunslinger – The Little Sisters Of Eluria.  The new series will be written by Robin Furth and Peter David with art by Luke Ross.  The official description of the new title: “After being terribly wounded from a vicious battle with a band of slow mutants, Roland Deschain is taken in by a group of hideous creatures known as the Little Sisters of Eluria and must battle. Roland’s journey has been long and treacherous and now there is nothing he can do to fend off the Little Sisters and whatever they have in store for him. Will the Gunslinger live to see the light of day?
  • Have you checked out any of the new Fall shows yet? What have you been digging?

Welcome to the Pit, fall into it!

  • The guys over at Sans Pants Productions have a new comedy spoof. This one takes aim at Sesame Street. What is up with the Count anyway? Funny stuff.
  • ABC is adapting the classic James Cameron action spy-comedy True Lies for the small screen. Sadly, A-Nold will not be involved, but I still think the material could warrant a really good show. We shall see.  NBC should have tried to grab this and pair it with Chuck on Monday nights. Oh, how I miss Chuck, less than 3 days until the premiere! Now with 100% more Linda Hamilton.
  • Ben Affleck’s The Town comes out this weekend. It looks really good. Who would have ever thought that Ben Affleck would become a better director than Kevin Smith? Wow, what a weird alternate world we live in!
  • Interested in making it big in Hollywood? What about a virtual Hollywood? Hollywood the Game is an awesome Hollywood Simulation where you write, cast, advertise, and making movies (and TV!). Check it out.  HTG is entering it’s 9th season of TV! What shows made the cut?
  • Enjoying any summer TV shows? Movies? Video games? Comics? Books? Music? Let us know in the comments!

The folks at NBC were kind enough to put the Chuck panel up online. This is the whole panel minus any clips they showed (with a few annoying but understandable commercials mixed in). Enjoy it… (expect spoilers)

(Now, I’m going to talk about spoilers) I love the idea of the CIA taking over the Buy More and adding other agents into the mix. It should be funny to see how Jeffster, Big Mike, and the others react to this. Linda Hamilton as Chuck’s mom is completely basass, I just hope she is good and not evil. I hope we can see some of what happened to Chuck’s parents in the past.

Other casting news; Olivia Munn and the “Old Spice” guy Isaiah Mustafa will be guest starring as CIA agents, and villains Stone Cold Steve Austin and Nicole Richie will be returning. With Richie returning, hopefully that means we’ll learn more about Sarah’s mysterious past. I also love the addition of Mekenna Melvin as Casey’s daughter Alex. I really hope that we’ll see more of her in the upcoming season.

Are you excited about the new season of Chuck? Discuss it below! NBC’s Comic Con panels for The Event, The Cape, and Community are also online, you can check them out here.

After reading about the new shows coming to NBC this fall, there was only one new show that really caught my eye, The Cape. I  watched all the trailers for NBC’s new shows and it really is the only one that I want to see.

“The Cape” is a one-hour drama series starring David Lyons (“ER”) as Vince Faraday, an honest cop on a corrupt police force, who finds himself framed for a series of murders and presumed dead. He is forced into hiding, leaving behind his wife, Dana (Jennifer Ferrin, “Life on Mars”) and son, Trip (Ryan Wynott, “Flash Forward”). Fueled by a desire to reunite with his family and to battle the criminal forces that have overtaken Palm City, Vince Faraday becomes “The Cape” – his son’s favorite comic book superhero – and takes the law into his own hands.

But The Cape isn’t on the schedule when the fall season begins, it won’t be on TV until midseason. What else is there? The Event looks like it could be good, but will it last past one season? This season’s conspiracy thriller FlashForward didn’t. The Undercovers looks like Mr & Mrs Smith. How did that show do? Did it even make it to TV? Outsourced got the most laughs out of me, but it is stupid funny. A show I would only watch if there was absolutely nothing else on. The Chase looks okay, maybe I’ll catch that one on Hulu. There are two shows about lawyers, Outlaw and Harry’s Law. Anyone else sick of law shows? Than you have three shows that look very similar except one is aimed at chicks (Love Bites), another at dicks (Friends with Benefits) and another at couples (Perfect Couples). At least I will be able to see my favorite actress, Jennifer Love Hewitt, on TV at least once this season. She has a guest spot on Love Bites.

At least NBC renewed my favorite show, Chuck, for another season. Check out clips and previews for all of NBC’s new shows:

It has been a while since we’ve done one of these, but welcome back to The Pit!

  • Have a mentioned recently how freaking awesome it is that Lost got an extra half hour added to its finale. Any additional Lost will make me excited! Nervously awaiting the finale.
  • MTV has put into production their own (tamed down) version of the hit UK series, Skins. The network also recently announced a TV adaptation of one of the best horror/zombie films of all time, Dawn of the Dead. I doubt Dead will ever see the air (and I hope it doesn’t).
  • Chuck hasn’t been renewed yet, WTF. Help support the show by watching it Online. We’ve added the latest episodes to our side bar via Hulu. Every viewer (both Online and on TV) helps!
  • Comic Preview: Amazing Spider-Man #631.  Hitting stores on May 12th, 2010, “Shed” continues as does the “Gauntlet” as Spider-Man is forced to battle the Lizard.  Will Curt Connors be able to regain control? Or will he make the biggest mistake of his life?
  • It was great to see Martha Kent and Perry White back on Smallville (even if they were awkwardly together). Here is hoping that either one of them returns to the show next season (Perry would make an awesome regular!!!).  Click here to watch the episode on the CW website.

We’ll be back with another edition of The Pit this weekend!

Save Chuck on NBC

Okay, so we might not have to Save Chuck yet, but until we have an official pick up for a new season we might as well remind NBC that the series has a huge fanbase. The awesome Chuck fansite, ChuckTV.net is hosting a series of “Flash Mobs” in four major cities (Seattle, Chicago, San Diego, and Philadelphia) on Monday.

A “Flash Mob” is a mass gathering that appears to be spontaneous. In the past they have been dance routines and staged shows. I’m not fully sure what they are planning for this Chuck based one, but I’m excited to see the outcome. Click here for more info and find out how you can get involved!
