We’re back with some television news for you to fall into.

Only a handful of years since his last retirement from The Tonight Show, it appears that the curtain is closing on Jay Leno once again in 2014. As expected, he will be passing the torch to Saturday Night Live alum and Late Night host Jimmy Fallon. This time around it seems much more likely that Leno will not steal the show back as he did when Conan O’Brien took over the hosting duties in 2009. Speaking of Conan, his own late night show over on TBS has been renewed through November of 2015.

With Fallon moving to The Tonight Show, rumors have begun about who might replace him on Late Night with the frontrunner seemingly being fellow SNLer Seth Meyers. Personally I think Meyers would be a great fit.

USA Network has announced their summer slate premiere dates! Lets start with Burn Notice (pictured left), the spy action series will start its seventh season on Thursday, June 6 at 9pm. It will be followed by the new series Graceland, which stars Daniel Sunjata and Aaron Tveit. Like Burn, the series is an action drama (and I’m sure it will have its share of lighthearted fare).  A week later on Wednesday June 12th, Royal Pains and Necessary Roughness’ new seasons begin. Pains at 9pm and Roughness at 10pm. Then you’ll have to wait almost another week for the return at Covert Affairs and Suits on Tuesday June 16th (also 9pm and 10pm).

The only standout USA Network show missing from the lot is White Collar, which will return with a new season in the fall (hey, they have to save something for their fall schedule).

Spoilers! Turn away if you have not watched the season finale of The Walking Dead. The third season of the zombie survival drama was really strong up until the last couple episodes. It went out without the bang everyone was expecting and that AMC hyped so loudly. It did have its fair share of surprises, including the fact that the season’s villain, the Governor (David Morrissey), survived. Everyone that I know (and myself) included counted on him being killed and we were taking bets on who would/should do it (Maggie and Michonne topped the list of would-be killers). AMC has announced that Morrissey will indeed be back next season as a regular. I honestly have no idea where they could take this character. I guess he can go out and build a new army to attack the prison- but how can they do this and keep things fresh? We shall see when The Walking Dead returns in October.

The Pit v3 Logo

Another week and more entertainment news. Welcome to a new edition of The Pit. This week is going to be a little shorter than usual.

  • NBC is making Thursday funnier by adding an additional hour to their established comedy block. Their new lineup will be: (8) Community, (8:30) Perfect Couples, (9) The Office, (9:30) Parks and Recreation, (10) 30 Rock, and (10:30) Outsourced. As usual I’ll be Tivo-ing The Office, 30 Rock and Community and will not be tuning into the other shows.
  • Conan O’Brien’s new show continues to be funny. Are you watching it?
  • Comic Preview: X-Factor #211. This week Peter David has the X-Factor gang in a battle royal in the streets of Las Vegas as their plan to get the attention of a “death goddess” actually works and they must face off with her undead warriors to free one of her slaves. “What happens in Vegas stays- Ah, gets you killed?”
  • The spy action/comedy/drama Chuck is still easily my favorite show on television and should be yours! If you’ve missed a recent episode, head over here and give the show a chance! It really is a creative high for TV.
  • The Virtual Fall Movie season is in full swing over at Hollywood the Game with a new Batman movie coming out this Friday. Don’t have a clue what I’m talking about? Then check out the site!

Entertainment News from The Pit, Movies, TV, Games, Awesome

Welcome to an all new Pit!

  • J.J. Abrams’ Undercovers are going to have to stay undercover as NBC has put the breaks on the spy drama. The True Lies like series featured a married couple who were retired spies and brought back into the game. This is the second new show that NBC canceled this year, the first being the Jimmy Smits court drama, Outlaws.
  • Conan O’Brien’s new late night show starts this Monday on TBS! His first week of guests include Seth Rogan, Lea Michele, Tom Hanks, Jon Hamm, Michael Cera, Julie Bowen and others, along with musical guests Jack White, Soundgarden, Fistful of Mercy, and Jon Dore.  TBS has revealed that Conan episodes will be posted online the day after they air. Here is hoping that the show takes a big bite out of The Tonight Show.
  • Martin Sheen has been cast as Uncle Ben and Sally Field is in talks to portray Aunt May in Marc Webb’s Spiderman reboot. While on the surface it feels like very weird casting, they might actually be pretty good fits.  Sheen especially, he has the right feel for Uncle Ben. He isn’t as frail as Cliff Robertson, but with how Uncle Ben dies that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. The film is really coming together, taking on the role of Peter Parker is Andrew Garfield, who rocked in Social Network, with Emma Stone as Peter’s first love interest Gwen Stacy and Rhys Ifans rumored to be Curt Connors, aka the Lizard. I really hope that MJ is in the movie, setting her up for future films.
  • The Hollywood Reporter has some really cool concept art from a couple of “lost scenes” from The Goonies. Check out the art here.

A week before his new late night talk show begins on TBS, Conan O’Brien has aired a special Show Zero online! Check out the 4 minute “fastest talk show ever” below…

Team Coco Live

For 24 hours Team Coco were broadcasting live from their offices on the Warner Brothers Lot.  To fill the many hours, staff members and interns read Shakespeare, held puppet shows, played Punishment Bingo, did some stand up comedy, 80s style aerobics, lasso-ed interns, and there was even an awkward first date that was interrupted by a bear (who sadly didn’t masturbate).

One of my personal favorite things occurred just after 3am as the stand up routine got taken over by a zombie attack. Check it out…

You can watch a ton of videos from the 24 hours of live broadcasting here. Conan begins airing on November 8th at 11pm on TBS.
