SyFy Taffany Gibson Movie

The SyFy Channel has created movies with a lot of epic battles, there was Lorenzo Lamas vs Raptors, who could forget David Hasselhoff vs Anacondas, and how about Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus? Well, now the network is bringing us an epic battle of ex-pop icons, Debbie Gibson vs Tiffany! Okay, so they will not be playing ex-pop icons that are out of control and eating people, but they will be fighting against each other!

The movie is Mega Python vs. Gatoroid, and the line has been drawn in the sand and Gibson and Tiffany have chosen sides.  Gibson will be portraying a fanatical animal-rights activist in the side of the Mega Python, while Tiffany will be an an overzealous park ranger who is backing the Gatoroid!  Which fight would you prefer to watch? The giant snake vs giant gator or Gibson vs Tiffany? Or Tiffany vs the giant snake or Gibson vs the giant gator?

This movie is hot off the announcement that SyFy is letting fans craft an upcoming creature flick. Mega Python vs. Gatoroid is being helmed by Mary Lambert, who crafted the creepy Stephen King adaptation Pet Sematary, and its sequel along with the forgettable straight to DVD horror sequel Urban Legends: Bloody Mary. This marks the first SyFy creature feature to be directed by a woman director, and she seems like a decent choice.  The flick is produced by Asylum, who brought us the enjoyable Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus, and such classic rip-off films as Transmorphers, 30,000 Leagues Under the Sea, and 100 Million BC.

Excited for the new SyFy flicks? Wondering where Lorenzo Lamas is in the announcements? Sound off below!

The time is here! The Hoff returns to The Young and the Restless!

The Hoff on The Young and the Restless

Starting tomorrow, Tuesday June 15th, David Hasselhoff returns to the show that launched his career, The Young and the Restless. Hasselhoff steps back into the role of Dr. William “Snapper” Foster, who was last seen in Genoa City in 1982, before Snapper left to teach a three-month fellowship in London. Of course, like many soap characters who leave to do something overseas, he never returned.  The Hoff will be guesting on the show for 5 episodes, taking him through June 21st.  You can catch a video preview of Hasselhoff’s return.

Returning to the Soaps that made you famous seems to be an in thing lately. Nathan Fillion returned to One Life to Live last year, and now comes word that fan favorite Vanessa Marcil will be returning to the role of Brenda on General Hospital this summer.  In addition to big stars going back to soaps, there have been some recent movie stars making the first time jump to the genre, most notability James Franco’s General Hospital stint, which he’ll return to later this month. Franco will be returning to the daytime drama and will be taking with him veteran film and television actor Bruce Davison.

Will you be watching Hasselhoff’s daytime return? Excited about other stars returning and some making their daytime debuts?

Don’t hassel the hoff! Between his reality series, all of the drinking, and looking for cheeseburgers, he is a pretty busy guy. Now, his plate is going to be even more full as he reprises his role of Dr. William “Snapper” Foster Jr on “The Young and the Restless”!  Hasselhoff lasted appeared on the CBS soap in 1982 when his character left for a three-month fellowship in London to teach, and never returned. His run on the show will be short and he’ll be joined with returning cast members Wings Hauser (as GregFoster) and Julianna McCarthy (as Liz Foster Brooks).

I think this is a really cool move by the Hoff. Anything that brings attention to daytime soaps is positive in my book, because sadly, soaps are a dying breed.  There are no other dramatic (and narrative) programming that is new every week out of the year. And once soaps are gone, we’ll never see this style of programming again.

This past week, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and Knight Rider, two shows that were rumored to be heading for cancellation, were extended to full season orders.  Both shows are based on popular 1980s franchises and have been getting low ratings against tough competition.

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles airs on Monday nights at 8pm against Chuck, Gossip Girl, The Big Bang Theory, How I Met Your Mother, Dancing With the Stars, and Monday Night Football, which shares a similar demographic and takes a big chunk of the ratings.  Like a lot of other shows in the current season, Fox offers all the new episodes online, which makes it less important to see the show in its first run on television.  I think we’re finally seeing the full effect of airing episodes online for free with how many struggling shows we have this season.

Knight Rider airs on NBC Wednesday nights at 8pm against Pushing Daisies, Bones, America’s Next Top Model, New Adventures of Old Christine, and Gary Unmarried. While not nearly as competitive as Sarah Connor’s time slot, it still faces a tough variety of content; from Daisies stylized quirkiness to Bones’ intriguing cases and whatever the heck people see in Top Model. With rumors that David Hasselhoff will be guest starring in future episodes, I can picture a spike in the ratings, maybe even a big enough one to warrant a second season for the struggling action show.

Love them or hate them? Either way you have 9 more episodes to give them a chance.

Justin Bruening in Knight Rider

After a disappointing TV Movie earlier in the year, “Knight Rider” returns tonight with the promise of change. Gary Scott Thompson, the writer/producer of “Las Vegas” and writer of “The Fast and the Furious”, has taken over the executive producer choirs and he has spoken out about his own personal distaste for the TV Movie. Add to that early reviews which have said that the series throws away the TV Movie and goes in a completely different direction and the fact that Val Kilmer will continue to voice K.I.T.T in the new show and I’ll watch (at least for now).

The series premieres tonight on NBC at 8. Click to enlarge photos from NBC’s official site.
