Release Date: February 15, 2013
Studio: 20th Century Fox
Director: John Moore
Cast: Bruce Willis, Jai Courtney, Sebastian Koch, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Yuliya Snigir, Radivoje Bukvic, Cole Hauser, and Amaury Nolasco.
Plot: Bruce Willis is back as iconoclastic, take-no-prisoners cop John McClane, who for the first time finds himself on foreign soil after traveling to Moscow to help his wayward son Jack (Jai Courtney)– unaware that Jack is really a highly-trained CIA operative out to stop a nuclear weapons heist.

With the Russian underworld in pursuit, and battling a countdown to war, the two McClanes discover their opposing methods make them unstoppable heroes.

Thoughts: I am a huge Die Hard fan and I’ll always be excited for a new action flick that features Bruce Willis’ John McClane. The original movie is near perfect and is one of the top actions movies of all time (and one of the best Christmas movies ever made). The second was a bit lackluster (Die Harder), but the series rebounded with an awesome third movie (Die Hard with a Vengence), only to be followed by a disappointing forth flick (Live Free or Die Hard).

As it stands, the odd numbered Die Hard movies are the strongest, so A Good Day to Die Hard should be good, right? Sadly, the early buzz is not great and John Moore as the director makes me even concerned- he already delivered a awful adaptation of Max Payne, a video game that was already cinematic yet his version lacked the game’s visual appear and style. I love the idea of John McClane fighting along side his just as badass son (and look at that poster, they do look like family), but will they be enough to make the movie entertaining? The movie hit theaters this past Friday, so why are you here reading this? If you are a fan of Die Hard, go check it out!

We are only 20 days away from a new John McClane adventure in A Good Day to Die Hard and I’m surprised that I haven’t seen a lot more advertising for the action flick. We can thank the official Die Hard Facebook page for this awesome poster that looks back at the original flick.

Bruce Willis returns to the role that made him an action hero on February 14th where he is joined by Jai Courtney, who takes on the role of his son. Will A Good Day to Die Hard live up to the original? We’ll see…

Welcome to an all new edition of The Pit! Things have been a bit slow on the site lately, but will be gaining steam over the new few weeks. So, what is interesting this week in the world of entertainment?

  • Have you checked out the trailer for the Jodie Foster directed flick The Beaver, which stars Foster and Mel Gibson, in his first role since… losing his mind. The movie’s description sounds pretty engaging, “…story about a man on a journey to re-discover his family and re-start his life. Plagued by his own demons, Walter Black was once a successful toy executive and family man who now suffers from depression. No matter what he tries, Walter can’t seem to get himself back on track…until a beaver hand puppet enters his life.” Check out the trailer over here. Sadly for Foster, the movie keeps getting pushed back. It was originally going to come out in mid March, before getting pushed to April, and now May.
  • Has Die Hard 5 found its director? Deadline is reporting that big time commercial director Noam Murro, who also helmed the 2008 flick Smart People with Dennis Quaid, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Ellen Page, will be directing a script from Skip Woods. I’m not familiar with Murro’s commercial work (apparently his Halo stuff is pretty amazing), but having Woods write the script doesn’t give me much confidence in the sequel. Woods is credited with the terrible screenplays for X-Men Origins: Wolverine, The A-Team, and Hitman.  I do want to see John McClane return. And what do we have to do to get Reginald VelJohnson back in the mix?
  • Ridley Scott’s upcoming sci-fi epic Prometheus has added Charlize Theron to a cast that already includes Noomi Rapace and the new Megneto Michael Fassbender. So, this movie was supposed to be the Alien prequel… is it still tied to Alien, or is it now something else?
  • This Monday on Jeopardy past champions Ken Jennings and Brad Rutter face off against the super IBM computer known as Watson. Will they be able to stop the destruction of the future as seen by way to smart robots in the Terminator? I’m putting my money on the computer.
  • Visitor Poll: What kind of television deal do you have? Do you have an Optimized Cable Company or use satellite? Sound off in the comments. Depending on how you are connected, you’ll have to know where to get accessories like a VGA cable or USB cables. Thanks!

Guest Post by Gaylord Campbell.

One of my favorite actors of all time is Bruce Willis, so I guess it comes as no surprise that the Die Hard films are among my favorite action films. I especially enjoy it when I am just randomly flipping channels on my DirecTV and I see one of the Die Hard movies come on. I am instantly hooked even though I have seen all of them at least a few times each. There is just something about Bruce Willis. It could be his bad boy attitude, or it could be that there are many layers to the character roles he takes on. John McClane is one of those characters. He is a tender father, a man trying to save his marriage, and a detective who will fight to the end to save the lives of people he doesn’t even know. Though all of the Die Hard films are great, the first one is by far the best. It is Christmas, and McClane is trying to save a room full of people from terrorists. His wife is one of the hostages and he will battle through anything to protect the love of his life. Yes, I romanticize the movie, but I know I can’t be the only one who does that! Though it is over 20 years old, it is still the best action adventure movie there is.
