When I heard the concept for Gotham I was not very impressed. Batman a la Smallville. The most interested part of Batman to me, is Batman. Pull that out of the mix and I just really do not care. Has the trailer changed my opinion at all?

Yes and no.

The trailer is good. It sets up the series nicely and established the key players. Jim Gordon, now portrayed by The OC and Southland‘s Ben McKenzie, is a very interesting character. And here he is a bit tougher than we are used to. Donal Logue and Robin Lord Taylor also stand out in the mix, Logue is Harvey Bullock while Taylor is the man who will become the Penguin. Jada Pinkett Smith is the sore thumb. It could just be how the trailer is pieced together, but Smith feels over the top in a Catwoman movie kind of bad. Here is hoping that she is a bit less annoying in the series.

Gotham has a lot of potential, but along with that potential are a lot of things that can go wrong. Lets hope that Fox gives the series the room to grow and doesn’t cancel it before its time, as it did with other genre series Firefly and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles.

Excited to see Batman (well, Bruce Wayne) come to the small screen? How will it compare with Arrow and Agents of SHIELD? What other comics do you want to see adapted for TV?

The New Year has begun and it is going to be full of interesting, chilling and promising movies. Brooklyn 9 9

Sunday was a big night for the freshman sitcom when Andy Samberg walked away with the Best Comedy Actor award and the show walked away with Best Comedy Series at the Golden Globes. Brooklyn Nine-Nine, although not the best ratings performer, is definitely the best new comedy series on the air right now. With an ensemble that’s airtight and some of the best comedy writing anywhere right now, Brooklyn Nine-Nine deserves to be watched. Live. No DVR or pirating bullsh!t. It’s that good. So at 8:30 sit your butt in front of your TV and turn on FOX because Brooklyn Nine-Nine is the future of TV comedy and its future is bright.

Mandela-Still

Nelson Mandela, a Nobel laureate and former president of the Republic of South Africa, is considered one of the greatest men in the history of mankind. Why? Because he had what it takes to be a hero. He had strength to spend twenty eight years in prison in a hopeless and noble struggle against the oppression. He had charisma to lead his people to the most thrilling victory of human history. He had faith to defy the government, the law, the unfairness. He had strength to fall and he was strong enough to rise again. He had once walked the longest walk to freedom.

The Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom trailer describes Mandela’s path in rebellion, his gradual gaining of power, fame and admiration of thousands of people. It tells the story of how he got put in prison for his dreams and aspirations. The Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom trailer tells a story of the largest triumph of a lifetime and of a history of a nation. It was completed in May 1994, when he became the first black president of South Africa. But this way was much longer than it might appear, and much harder than one could think. Countless amounts of people followed him and his ideas, the liberation campaign was organized, and the resistance failed. So the Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom movie is not a biography or a historical drama. It is praise to person so great, that his greatness is matchless and his grace is indescribable. The Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom trailer illustrates, how this hero of democracy and gained worldwide eminence and became a symbol of the struggle against the racial discrimination and its apogee – the apartheid. Fame has made him a genuine legend with a halo of a martyr, who heroically spent dozens of years in the solitary confinement in prison on the Robben Island, where he worked on a limestone quarry and had a right to one visit and one letter for six months. In these inhuman conditions he never lost heart, never asked the minions of the law for mercy, not once. No, Nelson Mandela courageously and fearlessly stood on the protection of his dreams, on the protection of justice, on the protection of equality. He knew that human dignity and power of the human spirit are able to defeat all the conventionalities, any harassment and oppressions, and he has never been wrong.

The Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom trailer tells a story of love and forgiveness, of freedom and faith. The Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom movie embodies this story so juicy and so pure, that you can start to feel yourself to be a part of it.

Release Date: February 15, 2013
Studio: 20th Century Fox
Director: John Moore
Cast: Bruce Willis, Jai Courtney, Sebastian Koch, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Yuliya Snigir, Radivoje Bukvic, Cole Hauser, and Amaury Nolasco.
Plot: Bruce Willis is back as iconoclastic, take-no-prisoners cop John McClane, who for the first time finds himself on foreign soil after traveling to Moscow to help his wayward son Jack (Jai Courtney)– unaware that Jack is really a highly-trained CIA operative out to stop a nuclear weapons heist.

With the Russian underworld in pursuit, and battling a countdown to war, the two McClanes discover their opposing methods make them unstoppable heroes.

Thoughts: I am a huge Die Hard fan and I’ll always be excited for a new action flick that features Bruce Willis’ John McClane. The original movie is near perfect and is one of the top actions movies of all time (and one of the best Christmas movies ever made). The second was a bit lackluster (Die Harder), but the series rebounded with an awesome third movie (Die Hard with a Vengence), only to be followed by a disappointing forth flick (Live Free or Die Hard).

As it stands, the odd numbered Die Hard movies are the strongest, so A Good Day to Die Hard should be good, right? Sadly, the early buzz is not great and John Moore as the director makes me even concerned- he already delivered a awful adaptation of Max Payne, a video game that was already cinematic yet his version lacked the game’s visual appear and style. I love the idea of John McClane fighting along side his just as badass son (and look at that poster, they do look like family), but will they be enough to make the movie entertaining? The movie hit theaters this past Friday, so why are you here reading this? If you are a fan of Die Hard, go check it out!

With television coming back from its “winter break” lets take a look at some new television and webTV news.

Over at the Television Critics Association’s press tour this morning, FOX revealed that they renewed Bones for a ninth season. They implied but did not outright say that it would be the final season of the long running crime drama, I guess it depends on the rest of FOX’s future slate of shows. The series stars Emily Deschanel as doctor  Temperance “Bones” Brennan, a “socially inept” forensic anthropologist who uses her unique skill set to solve long cold cases along with her partner FBI Special Agent Seeley Booth, portrayed by Buffy the Vampire Slayer‘s David Boreanaz.

Bones joins a bunch of other shows that the network has already renewed, including American Dad, Bob’s Burgers, Family Guy, The Simpsons, and The X Factor. The only show I actually care about on FOX at the moment is New Girl, which stars Emily’s sister Zooey. New Girl keeps getting better and funnier with every episode. Hopefully they announce a renewal soon.

Well it took longer than expected, but it looks like Prospect Park is pulling through with its revivals of canceled ABC Soaps One Life to Live and All My Children. News was leaked last month that the company had closed deals with the DGA and SAG/AFTRA. Now comes word that PP has hired Executive Producers on the shows,  Jennifer Pepperman on OLTL and Ginger Smith on AMC, both of whom worked on the shows in the past, and the two show’s creator Agnes Nixon has signed on as a consultant. A few AMC cast members have signed on to the show, including Lindsay Hartley, Vincent Irizarry and Debbi Morgan. Even more interesting is the new plan for airing the soaps. Both OLTL and AMC will be half an hour long and air four days a week on The Online Network, with recap shows every Friday. Production begins in Stanford, CT in February. Maybe we’ll start seeing episodes as soon as March? Keep your fingers crossed!

Credit photo Lenox Avd Facebook Page. While on the subject of soaps, lets shift online where the third and forth episodes of Lenox Avenue have been released over on its official website. The series is described as a “sexy soap-opera-style drama” that follows three male friends, Owen (Al Thompson, “A Walk to Remember”), Sellars (Dorian Missick, “Southland”), and Vaughn (Ryan Vigilant, “Gossip Girl”), who are navigating the complex dating scene while dealing with the pressures and messiness of their careers and friendships. The series is set in and spotlights the beauty of Harlem. In the third episode, Owen encounters a mysterious new woman while Sellars learns some stuff about his wedding. Then in the forth episode Vaughn learns that the single life is not nearly as easy as expected.   Find out more over on the show’s Facebook page.
