SyFy Series: Rewind

This is exactly the type of show I want to see from SyFy, the network that was formerly the Sci-Fi Channel. I’ve been so tired of endless (and cheap) reality shows and wrestling (still, really?). Sharknado was a shot in the arm and I’m glad to see that SyFy is moving forward with new high-concept shows.

Tonight is the premiere of Rewind, a new series that mixes the end of the world, terrorism, and time travel. Add the fact that the pilot epsiode guest stars Lost alum Jeff Fahey and genre director David Cronenberg, and you have a show that is making the right early moves. The series stars Whale Rider star Keisha Castle-Hughes, along with Shane McRae, Robbie Jones, Jennifer Ferrin, and Keon Mohajeri.

Official Description, “Pilot”: A team of military operatives and civilian scientists travel through time using untested technology in order to alter events and hopefully prevent a devastating terrorist attack.

The first episode is two hours long, it premieres on the SyFy channel tonight at 9pm (and I’m sure will reair at least half a dozen times in the next week). It should be interesting to see where the series goes from here? Do they change the past and have to live with an unknown future? Do they keep going back in time trying to alter the future more? Are they stranded in the past with limited knowledge of how to stop what they know already happened? There are so many places that a series about time travel can go, I can’t wait to see the route Rewind chooses to take.

What else is on tonight?

TV Flipped Column with PJ Flip

After reading about the new shows coming to NBC this fall, there was only one new show that really caught my eye, The Cape. I  watched all the trailers for NBC’s new shows and it really is the only one that I want to see.

“The Cape” is a one-hour drama series starring David Lyons (“ER”) as Vince Faraday, an honest cop on a corrupt police force, who finds himself framed for a series of murders and presumed dead. He is forced into hiding, leaving behind his wife, Dana (Jennifer Ferrin, “Life on Mars”) and son, Trip (Ryan Wynott, “Flash Forward”). Fueled by a desire to reunite with his family and to battle the criminal forces that have overtaken Palm City, Vince Faraday becomes “The Cape” – his son’s favorite comic book superhero – and takes the law into his own hands.

But The Cape isn’t on the schedule when the fall season begins, it won’t be on TV until midseason. What else is there? The Event looks like it could be good, but will it last past one season? This season’s conspiracy thriller FlashForward didn’t. The Undercovers looks like Mr & Mrs Smith. How did that show do? Did it even make it to TV? Outsourced got the most laughs out of me, but it is stupid funny. A show I would only watch if there was absolutely nothing else on. The Chase looks okay, maybe I’ll catch that one on Hulu. There are two shows about lawyers, Outlaw and Harry’s Law. Anyone else sick of law shows? Than you have three shows that look very similar except one is aimed at chicks (Love Bites), another at dicks (Friends with Benefits) and another at couples (Perfect Couples). At least I will be able to see my favorite actress, Jennifer Love Hewitt, on TV at least once this season. She has a guest spot on Love Bites.

At least NBC renewed my favorite show, Chuck, for another season. Check out clips and previews for all of NBC’s new shows:
