Release Date: June 14, 2013
Studio: Warner Brothers
Director: Zack Snyder (300, Watchmen)
Cast: Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Michael Shannon, Kevin Costner, Russell Crowe, Diane Lane, Laurence Fishburne, Christopher Meloni, and Richard Schiff.
Plot: A young boy learns that he has extraordinary powers and is not of this Earth. As a young man, he journeys to discover where he came from and what he was sent here to do.

But the hero in him must emerge if he is to save the world from annihilation and become the symbol of hope for all mankind.

Thoughts: I can not wait for Man of Steel to come out. Seriously. I know next to nothing about the movie. I’ve seen the trailer and we all know the very basics; origin story, Zod, and the suit looks a bit different. But I absolutely love the fact that I really don’t know much about the plot.

This is the polar opposite of the advertising of Iron Man 3, a movie that I have not seen but I feel like I know every beat of the movie. The cast is top notch, I love Snyder’s visual style, and more so than the actors that have come before him, Henry Cavill looks the part of Superman without even being in the suit.

Is it June 14th yet?

An excellent real world thriller. The performances are great all across the board, but especially from Jude Law, Matt Damon, and Laurence Fishburne. The score is eerie and the cinematography even more so. This movie will definitely give you the chills. The only downside to this film is the certain cop out that happens and sometimes the film is a little too cluttered for its own good- they could have easily eliminated one of its many “ensemble storylines” and overall it would have still felt whole. Otherwise, this is a film that I higly recommend.

Okay, so we are very light on new releases today, but we do have some interesting stuff on DVD and Blu-Ray. Lets take a look at what we have…

Based on a story by and produced by Robert Rodriguez, this film directed by Nimród Antal was looking to relaunch and revitalize the Predator horror franchise. With a cast that includes Oscar winner Adrien Brody, Topher Grace, Laurence Fishburne and Danny Trejo, the film followed a group of convicts and army types who are transported to an alien world and hunted for sport. The film is coming out on both DVD and Blu-Ray.

A historical drama from Alejandro Amenábar with Rachel Weisz, Max Minghella, and Oscar Isaac. Weisz portrays Hypatia of Alexandria. The film came out in a very limited release. I honestly haven’t even heard of it until now.

That is it in terms of new releases, but we have a couple cool reissues.

Seven Samurai
The classic action flick from Akira Kurosawa is coming out in Blu-Ray as part of the Criterion Collection. In the film, a poor village is under attack by bandits when they turn to seven out of work samurai to protect them. If you haven’t seen the film, it is worth checking out.

The Bionic Woman – Season 1
The hit action series from the seventies is finally on DVD. The series was a spinoff from The Six Million Dollar Man. In it, Lindsay Wagner is Jaime Sommers, a young woman and tennis professional who is nearly killed in a skydiving accident and is rebuilt with bionic parts that give her superhuman powers.

Other notable Blu-Ray releases:

  • The Rocky Horror Picture Show (35th Anniversary Edition)
  • Apocalypse Now (Three-Disc Full Disclosure Edition)
  • Psycho (50th Anniversary Edition)

What will you be taking home this week?

Okay, first I gotta apologize for posting so many posters lately. Sorry about that. But I had to put this one up because;

1) it’s for the Robert Rodriguez produced Predators,
2) it’s awesome, and

The poster features the title monster and a muddy and beaten Adrien Brody.

The film also stars Topher Grace, Laurence Fishburne, Alice Braga, Danny Trejo, Louis Ozawa Changchien, and Oleg Taktarov. Nimród Antal, who helmed 2007’s Vacancy, directed the action flick. It hits theaters in a month on July 9, 2010!

Laurence Fishburne CSI Crossover

Tonight at 10pm on CBS is the first part of a three part crossover of all of the CSIs.  After a severed leg found in the Everglades is discovered to belong to a girl who disappeared from Las Vegas a week earlier, Ray Langston (Laurence Fishburne of CSI “prime”) joins the Miami investigation. The story begins here on CSI: Miami, then will continue through CSI: NY and conclude on CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.

I love crossovers, so even though I have been out of touch with the CSI Universe for a while, I might just check this out.  Personally, I’d prefer if more of the Las Vegas team crossed over, instead of just Fishburne’s Langston, but its a cool concept and I wanna know how they’ll tie all three locations together.
