Well, it is that time again… we have a new X-Men #1. This series relaunches more than most people change their underwear. This relaunch in particular is starting with a bit of a twist, and would be more properly titled X-Women as it features some of the X-Men’s most famous heroines teaming up minus the gentlemen of the atom. Lead by Storm, the team features Shadowcat, Jubilee, Rachel Summers, Rogue, and Psyclocke.

(spoilers, maybe?) Can anyone explain just what is happening with Jubilee? She lost her powers, then was turned into a vampire, and now on these covers she looks back to her old self… um? I have only been following X-titles with “Factor”, “All New”, or “Wolverine and” in the titles… I guess I missed a few things.

X-Men #1
Official Description: Because you demanded it! The X-Women finally get their own book, from critically acclaimed superstars Brian Wood and Olivier Coipel! An old enemy shows up at the X-Men’s door, seeking asylum from an ancient evil come back to earth. Meanwhile, Jubilee has come home, and she’s brought with her an orphaned baby who might hold the key to the earth’s survival…or its destruction. Against a backdrop of what seems like an alien invasion and an eons-spanning war between brother and sister, Storm steps up and puts together a team to protect the child and stop a new threat that could destroy all life on earth!

The Marvel comic will hit stores and the digital market place on May 29th, 2013. Will you be picking it up and following the adventures of the first X-Women team?

I have been saying for a very long time that X-Factor is easily the best (and most consistent) series that Marvel Comics puts out. Peter David connects the reader to these characters (all of which are b-level at best) like few can. Year of his stories are coming to a head as the team is caught in the middle of the “Hell on Earth War”. Darwin finally returned recently and now it would appear that Strong Guy is following suit… to bad it would appear that like Darwin, Strong Guy is on the wrong side of this fight.

X-Factor #250
Official Description: The story years in the making continues here as X-Factor struggles to stop the Lords of Hell from tearing the Earth apart in their battle for dominance! Familiar faces will return as the battle reaches a fever pitch, the first of whom is STRONG GUY! And he has a bone to pick with his former teammates…

The issue hits stands this Wednesday, February 6th, 2013. If you were not aware, X-Factor’s writer Peter David had a stroke at the end of the year and could use his fans help. Find out more on how you can help over on his personal blog.

Welcome to our all new version of The Pit, where we are hoping to share news on a more daily basis. We’ll mix it up day by day and shed the spotlight on different areas of Entertainment, including movies, television, comics, books, music, etc. Today we’ll take a look at some recent Movie News.

Who ya gonna call? Apparently not Bill Murray. The beloved comic actor has turned down the deal to reprise the role of Peter Venkman in the second sequel to the Ghostbusters. Esquire was kind enough to get us an update on the project from Dan Aykroyd, who is still working hard to get the project off the ground regardless that it has been 20 years since they fought Vigo with the assistance of the Statue of Liberty.

Aykroyd told the publication; “…we have a story and a draft that everybody seems to agree would make the third movie. At this point, I think we’re closer than we ever have been.” One of the reasons they are closer to production is that Murray has “abrogated his rights” by turned down the project three times. He doesn’t have veto power over the movie anymore. As much as I’d love to see Murray join Aykroyd, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson in the jumpsuits hunting down ghosts I’d love it just as much for them to finally move on without him. Make Ghostbusters 3, pass the torch to the next generation of Ghostbusters and keep this series alive far into the future. There is so much wasted potential here.

Modern Family funny man Ty Burrell has joined the cast of the upcoming sequel to last years disappointing musical comedy The Muppets. James Bobin is returning to direct the movie and co-wrote the screenplay with Nicholas Stoller, who co-penned the original and has written movies such as Fun with Dick and Jane, Yes Man, Get Him to the Greek, and The Five-Year Engagement.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Burrell will be portraying an Interpol inspector as the Muppets leave Hollywood for Europe (and I’m assuming hijinks ensues). There is no word on who will be co-starring in the other not puppet roles, but Jason Segel, the star of the last flick, will not be returning. There is no word if Walter, the newest Muppet who has uncanny whistling abilities, will be back or if he packed his bags along with Segel. No matter what, I think this follow up with be more enjoyable than 2011 film. Casting Burrell is a big step in the right direction.

It wasn’t bad enough that fox got to screw up the Fantastic Four movie franchise over two sub-par films by Tim Story, but they are getting their chance to do it again. The studio has announced a March 6, 2015 release date for a reboot of the Marvel Comic series.

Handling the directing duties is Josh Trank, the man behind the found footage superhero movie Chronicle. the movie was a great effort, but for me it doesn’t show that he is ready for a property like Fantastic Four. The 27 years old director has just one feature under his belt along with a couple episodes of The Kill Point, a short lived action drama that starred Donnie Wahlberg and John Leguizamo. They will need to knock the casting out of the park to get my attention, otherwise I’m counting the years until the property rights revert back to Marvel Studios.

Excited for Ghostbusters 3, another Muppets, or the Fantastic Four reboot? Let us know in the comments or on our Facebook page!

Here we go, a new era begins for Marvel’s Avengers as they enter Marvel Now! with a new creative team, Jonathan Hickman and Jerome Opena, and a new number 1. Hickman has promised a large roster of heroes as part of the team and we can see from the covers above that it includes all of the movie Avengers (although they all look very different with their Marvel Now! makeovers) and an assortment of Marvel’s popular recent Avengers, including Wolverine, Spider-Man, Falcon and Spider-Woman.

Brian Michael Bendis had a long and very well done run with Avengers and New Avengers, but this shakeup is needed to keep things fresh and moving forward. I can’t wait to see which characters are a part of the book. While I think DC Comics handled their “New 52” reboot/rebranding very poorly from a fan’s point of view, I think Marvel has treated fans with respect during the creative changes that have come along with “Marvel Now!”. DC Comics should take note on how to not alienate your core group of fans.

Avengers #1

Now shipping twice a month, the Avengers “go large,” expanding their roster and their sphere of influence to a global and even interplanetary level. When Captain America puts out his call – who will answer? Big threats, big ideas, big idealism – these are the Avengers NOW!

You can pick up the issue on Wednesday, December 5th, 2012 and you’ll have to pick it up fast because the Marvel Now! #1s have been selling out. I didn’t get to the store quick enough and I’m waiting for a second printing of All New X-Men #1 as we speak.

Next week, Marvel Now!’s all new take on the merc with the mouth continues in Deadpool #3 from the comedy writing team of Gerry Duggan and Brian Posehn along with one of comic’s best artists Tony Moore, with a cover by Moore and a variant by Geoff Darrow. Deadpool’s epic battle with zombie presidents continues as he faces off with Richard Nixon (where is David Frost when you need him!?). Guest starring Doctor Strange… you know, they had me with zombie Nixon, but I always enjoy an appearance by the good doctor. I love how Marvel Now! is pulling heroes from all around the Marvel Universe together. It really feels like a much tighter universe since the end of “Avengers vs. X-Men” and I hope this continues and is not a passing phase.

Deadpool #3
Official Description: Deadpool vs. Dead Presidents…this time, TRICKY DICK NIXON! Can even Doctor Strange help the M w/the M? This is the Deadpool series you will marry someday!

Marvel Now! Deadpool #3 hits stands next Wednesday December 5th, 2012. Also coming out next Wednesday from Marvel Comics are All-New X-Men #3, Amazing Spider-Man #699, Avenging Spider-Man #15, and Avengers #1 (more on that later!), among others. Have you been picking up the Marvel Now! take on Deadpool?

Last week Marvel Now! kicked off with a bang with the release of Uncanny Avengers #1. In the aftermath of Avengers vs X-Men, the world has changed and the mutant gene has been reactivated. With that a new team of Avengers formed with a mix of classic Avengers and new mutant members like Rogue and Havok. In addition to the new series, Marvel is relaunching most of their lineup with new number 1s with fresh creative teams in the mix.

The merc with the mouth, Deadpool, is one of the series that will be getting a new number one. While he did not beat Deathstroke in our recent head to head match up [SEE: Deathstroke vs Deadpool, Who Would Win?], the assassin is ready to take on giant monsters (see above) and dead presidents in his new title, written by the comedy team of Gerry Duggan, a writer of Attack of the Show!, and comedian/actor Brian Posehn, who appeared in Fox’s horrible Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. The art in the series is by Toy Moore, who I think has one of the cleanest and coolest styles. He drew the first few issues of The Walking Dead, which blow away most other titles and helped the book stand out.

DEADPOOL #1
Official Issue Description: Marvel is pleased to present your first look at Deadpool #1, kicking off the all-new ongoing series from the blockbuster creative team of writers & comedians Brian Posehn (The Sara Silverman Program), Gerry Duggan (Attack of the Show!, Infinite Horizon) and superstar artist Tony Moore (The Walking Dead)! Washington, D.C. is in turmoil when dead former U.S. Presidents – from George Washington to Gerald Ford – are resurrected and the heroes of the Marvel Universe can’t be the ones to stop them! There’s only one other person that has the reputation, skills, and plausible deniability to handle these com-monsters in chief…NOW! is the time for Deadpool! In Wade We Trust!

Deadpool #1 hits stands and the digital marketplace in three weeks on November 7th. Are you excited for the new team on the book? Ready for the mix of action, comedy, and gore?
