I am so excited to be able to give one of our visitors a copy of Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim. Monsters vs Giant Robots. Del Toro would have had me at either Monsters or Giant Robots, but both? Fighting with the fate of the Earth in the balance? Yeah, I’m there. I’m there in repeat viewings.

In addition to this great giveaway (more on that as you scroll down), I’m equally as happy to present this awesome Pacific Rim app. It includes interactive GIFs that let you control the monsters and robots, a Quiz for superfans of the movie, and a Soundboard that lets you play with SFX directly from the movie. Create your own epic battle (at least in audio form!)

YouTube’s recent changes and updates have been pretty extensive, they include adding a ton of full length movies that you have to pay to watch and adding dozens of free web channels and providing talented creators like Felicia Day with the budget and resources to make some awesome content. In addition to the movies that you have to pay for, one really cool thing is that they greatly expanded their database of free movies that you can watch online also. Today I’m going to focus on three of these free movies (all of which include our favorite green monster).

Godzilla vs. Destoroyah
“In this epic entry in the classic series, a strangely glowing Godzilla must battle the gigantic, winged Destroyah. It is discovered that Godzilla is suffering from an over-radiated heart and has only a short time to live. But can he save the people of Japan from the malevolent Destroyah before his passing.” Watch Godzilla vs. Destoroyah for free!

Godzilla vs. Mothra
“A greedy developer unwittingly hatches a gigantic baby moth upon Tokyo, while Godzilla strikes once again.” Watch Godzilla vs. Mothra for free!

Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla
“Director Masaaki Tezuka follows up his debut feature Godzilla vs. Megaguirus with another movie starring everyone’s favorite giant lizard. One of at least three films in the history of the Godzilla franchise to find the merciless reptile pitted against his mechanical counterpart, Godzilla x Mechagodzilla finds humans under attack by the green beast. With little hope left, they build the giant man-piloted robot Mechagodzilla to defend the world.”  Watch Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla for free!

What is your favorite Godzilla movie? What others would you like to see put online to watch for free?

Disney/Pixar has revealed the fist plot details (and the above logo) for their upcoming prequel to (my personal favorite Pixar flick) Monsters Inc! From The Disney Blog:

Billy Crystal and John Goodman reprise their roles as Mike Wazowski and James P. Sullivan. In the original they were an inseparable pair, but that wasn’t always the case. When these two mismatched monsters met at school they couldn’t stand each other. “Monsters University” unlocks the door to how Mike and Sulley overcame their differences and became the best of friends.

While I would still love to see a movie set after the original (as a prequel this one can’t feature Boo – BOO!), I am still really excited about revisiting Mike Wazowski and James P. Sullivan. The chemistry between Billy Crystal and John Goodman is spot on (rivals even Tom Hanks and Tim Allen in the Toy Story series) and the world of Monstropolis was so vividly created in the original. I’m ready to attend Monster University in June 2013 (I just wish it was sooner).

MONSTERS
A beautifully shot and acted film. The budgetary limitations did cause noticeable problems particularly in the story of the film, which is a bit of a  disappointment.

***½

BURIED
A great little claustrophobic film. The film succeeds as one of the best thrillers of the last decade as the writing and directing were phenomenal. Ryan Reynolds proves that he is more than a one bit actor. As Paul Conroy, this is the film that Reynolds has been searching for to truly show is dramatic chops. A must see.

****½

SAW: THE FINAL CHAPTER
Easily one of the worst in the series. This is a poor way to close the world’s highest grossing horror franchise. It’s a shame the series has gone so far downhill since the first movie came out. A disappointment all around, even the film series’ one redeeming quality – the traps – sucked here.

Thanks to Aint-it-Cool News and Cinematical, we have two new posters for the Universal revival of The Wolfman, which stars Benicio Del Toro and the lovely Emily Blunt. Click the above links for higher resolution versions of the posters, or below to enlarge.

The Wolfman Poster

I’m not blown away by these posters, but they are decently cool. The film finally hits theaters on February 12th, after a long wait.  I wonder how this remake (and how it does) will affect the remake of The Bride of Frankenstein.

Dreamworks Animation have released an all new trailer for Monsters vs Aliens, an upcoming 3D animated flick from Rob Letterman (Shark Tale) and Conrad Vernon (Shrek 2).

After aliens invade America (“the only country that UFOs ever seem to land in”, heh), the President is forced to enlist monsters that the military has secretly been rounding up to save the planet. Included in the mix of monsters are a 49 foot 11 inch tall woman, “the brilliant but insect-headed Dr. Cockroach, Ph.D.; the macho half-ape, half-fish The Missing Link; the gelatinous and indestructible B.O.B.; and the 350-foot grub called Insectosaurus”.
