We’ve already covered 5 books that should Hollywood should bring to the big screen. However, it’s not enough because the literary world has published some of the most compelling stories ever told. There are always rumors of a popular book’s copyright being bought by Hollywood. Instead of letting the news sit in the rumor mill for too long, I say they carry out the idea and let the actors bring to life our much loved literary characters.

Below are more books that should definitely be turned into movies:

The Dark Tower (series) by Stephen King
There’s a reason why King makes this list twice, and that reason is because he’s the king of horror. No one can weave a more terrifying story than Kig does. With The Dark Tower, he takes it a whole different level with 8 books comprising this series. It’s about a gun slinger and his physical and metaphysical journey towards a tower. There are talks about a movie but nothing is made concrete.

Cat’s Cradle by Kurt Vonnegut
Curious how there’s very few movies based on Vonnegut’s works. He’s one of the best writers who ever lived, and his stories are always interesting and witty. Cat’s Cradle has the elements of apocalyptic suspense and dry humor that will be reminiscent of the classic Shaun of the Dead. Leonardo di Caprio apparently wants to make this movie, but that was 2005 and there were no news since.

A Prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving
The movie Simon Birch is loosely based on Irving’s classic, but there’s still a need for this movie to reach the big screen. The rich story of friendship, love, and self-acceptance gives heart and character to this book. Hollywood is in desperate need of more movies with heart, and they can start with this book if they want one.

The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger
Probably one of the greatest tragedy, we may never get to see Salinger’s timeless piece be adapted into a movie. When he was alive, he refused every movie deal and made sure that it won’t be made into a movie even after his death. Holden Caulfield is one of the most iconic characters in fiction, and it’s a shame that we will never see him in the big screen.

The Book Thief

The Book Thief is the new war drama, based on the book with the same name, written by Markus Zusak. This movie tells an overwhelming story of a girl who was robbed by life and she decided to rob it back. Her name is Liesel and she is a blonde cutie living the horror experience of the Second World War in the Nazi Germany. She has a secret passion for stealing books, even if she cannot read.

Hans and Rosa make a couple, that decides to adopt the girl, but they have a secret, which should not be revealed to anyone. Hans helped a young Jewish boy, named Max, hiding him from the Nazis, in his house. Liesel develops a strong connection with Max, as they both find the common love for words. The girl brings the stolen books to the young boy and in this way she gives him the hope and the kindness, his soul needs. Life has robbed them both and it made them feel like they do not belong to the place they are in. So Liesel, decides that stealing books is some kind of robbing the life back, because sometimes that is how you can take a little revenge.

The whole story is narrated by Death, which brings a special vibe to the movie. The Book Thief comes to show the biggest issues of those disastrous times, through the personality of Liesel, who has a delicate and at the same time very brave nature.

There is a lot to see and to feel. The amazing cast, starring Geoffrey Rush, Emily Watson, Sophie Nelisse and many others, does a great job with the way all the characters develop. The amount of work, dedication and talent is simply huge, in this film. The Book Thief is directed by the very talented Brian Percively and it brings to us a new side of the life of the people who lived in the Nazi Germany.

As the story goes, we understand that Liesel is completely right when saying that if life robs you, sometimes, you just have to rob it back. There is no other way of taking back the hope and the sense of belonging from life. This January, The Book Thief premieres in theaters. Make sure you watch this masterpiece of life and take the best lesson from it.

still-TheCounsellor2

Imagine a world with no rules where the human instincts seem to be more animal than human, a world of crime and reckless people. That is the world we get to see in the new movie called The Counsellor. It is written by Cormac McCarthy, well known for his masterpiece No Country for Old Men and directed by one of the legends of the filmmaking, Ridley Scott, famous for taking our breaths in movies like “Gladiator”, Prometheus and American Gangster.

The story centers on a lawyer, whose name is not given, he can only be addressed as the Counsellor. His plans and goals of entering the underground world, in order to make some quick money, destroy the life he has, involving his fiancée, who he just asked to marry. The Counsellor is an arrogant man, who despite all the warnings he gets, keeps going further and further into the dirty world of crime and drugs. The lawyer character is played by the very talented Michael Fassbender. The handsome actor acts super natural and does its best to get under the skin of the main character. Also, we get to see some real divas of Hollywood, like Cameron Diaz who is the femme fatale of the movie and Penelope Cruz, who is the angelic cherry of The Counsellor.

It is not a typical thriller about drugs. The director and the writer are delivering special messages using baleful circumstances and no compunctions. This movie does not enter the confines of a traditional thriller, because of its star power and the excellent execution, which result in a tale of the crime world. It is a movie of virtuous and perfidious contrasts; it will surely make you feel the good and the evil of the modern life. The Counsellor is considered to be one of the most awaited drama thrillers of this year.

An ordinary story that evolves with a different and captivating twist that ends up not the way you expected will make you feel the spicy gangsta vibe. With metaphorical dialogues and fearless acts, this movie lights a superb mood. The Counsellor teaches us a serious morality tale. Decisions we make today can result terrifying consequences tomorrow.

There are many people, who believe that there is more than only one reality. There are at least two of them for every human, the one he lives in and the one he is dreaming about.

On 25th of December, a new movie about different realities premieres. It is called The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. Does it seem familiar? It should be! This movie is another brilliant remake of one of the greatest short stories of America, named the same.

The film stands out of the crowd because of its really talented cast, including the funny Ben Stiller, who is also directing the movie, the nice Kristen Wiig, the real man Sean Penn and many others.

It is a story about Walter Mitty, a passionate day dreamer, whose dreams were cut because of his work in The Life Magazine and the daily routine of his life. The life was captivating only in his second reality, the one he was dreaming in. In The Secret Life of Walter Mitty trailer we see how in real life he was sitting in the train station on the 125th street, in his mind he was jumping into a window of a burning building.  In the real life he was in the office, looking at his crush, in his dreaming he was getting out of the poster with mountains and he started flirting to his crush. Isn’t the dreaming better?

As George Carlin said “Some people see things that are and ask, Why?  Some people dream of things that never were and ask, Why not? Some people have to go to work and don’t have time for all that.” Walter is somewhere between the last two kinds of people, who has to work but somehow manages to dream, because his dreams are just another reality, that makes him happy. The fate gives Walter, an adventure that is even way crazier than his dreams are. He wished for it, never expected but he got it.

While reading this article you should turn on a song from The Secret Life of Walter Mitty trailer, called Bohemian Rhapsody, which, by the way was perfectly assigned to the story.

Watch this moony adventure and learn to choose your reality.
