It is Saturday morning, and that means that it is time for our Weekly Pit column. What’s happening in the world of entertainment?

  • Will Desmond be in next season of lost? His story wrapped, but a lot of signs point to yes. (BuddyTV)
  • Roger Ebert shows us how to read a movie. (Sun Times)
  • The NY Post takes a look at how the west was “fixed”. Interesting stuff. (NY Post)
  • Oh Jon Stewart, I thank you for putting everything into perspective. (Huffington Post)
  • Remember that film break in “Gremlins 2”? Well, someone with way too much time on their hands, made a “DVD break”. See the Gremlins invade a couple classic films. (YouTube)

Stay tuned for more weekend posts and our weekly recap! 🙂

The Lizard vs Spiderman

We can all have a collective sigh of relief, Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire have signed on to Spider-Man 4 and 5! With them on board, it’ll only be a matter of time before Kristen Dunst signs on the dotted line.  Bryce Dallas Howard is ready to go back to work as Gwen Stacey, and I think we can assume J.K. Simmons, Bruce Campbell and Ted Raimi will be back to steal scenes. The only big question mark is who will Spider-man face in the film? Villains like Man-Wolf and Carnage have been set up in earlier films, but I doubt we’ll see either of them. Who would I like to see Spider-Man take on? Read on for my thoughts.

15 images from Kevin Smith’s Zack and Miri Make a Porno have been released on Yahoo. The film stars Seth Rogen, Elizabeth Banks, Traci Lords, Jason Mewes, and Craig Robinson, along with appearances by Justin Long and Brandon Routh. The movie opens on October 31st and has been rated R (after an appeal due to an initial NC-17 rating by the MPAA) for strong crude sexual content including dialogue, graphic nudity and pervasive language. Check out the new images from the film here, and some additional pics of the cast at the 2008 San Diego Comic Con can be found here.

Hellboy, Ron Perlman, Hellboy 3, Hellboy 2: The Golden Army

Guillermo Del Toro is one of the busiest directors alive, so much so that Variety reports that he is booked through at least 2017. His line up of films includes the “Lord of the Rings” prequel “The Hobbit”, remakes of such classic films as “Frankenstein”, “Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde”, and “Slaughterhouse-Five”, an adaptation of the novel “Drood” and H.P. Lovecraft’s “At the Mountains of Madness”, and hopefully… “Hellboy 3”.

“We laid the groundwork to have a magnificent third act,” the acclaimed director told the publication, who also went on to reveal that “the studio is interested and may work with del Toro to add a TV series and online segments to broaden the following before making the series finale.”

Hopefully they will also continue to make animated films, following on the successful DTV releases of “The Phantom Claw”, “Blood and Iron”, “Sword of Storms”, and video games; “Hellboy: The Science of Evil” was released at the end of June and featured all of the cast members from the films.

That would give us a wide variety of “Hellboy” content over the next dozen years, including a TV series, online shorts, animated films, video games, and the end of the film trilogy. And I for one, could not be happier.

Will Angelina Jolie be Catwoman in Batman 3?

“I think that this franchise has shown that it doesn’t have to bring back characters. I mean, there’s still Catwoman. I’ve heard Angelina Jolie really wants to do Catwoman; I think that’s a fantastic idea. I’ll be a happy audience member this time.”

AICN’s Beaks talked to Aaron Eckhart at the press junket for Alan Ball’s “Towelhead” and he had some very interesting things to say about both his character Harvey Dent/Two-Face and some possible details on the next Batman film.Have you heard that Angelina Jolie wants to be Catwoman in Nolan’s next Batman film? Because I hadn’t heard that. Sounds like some insider info to me. And while I absolutely hate Jolie, I think she is perfect for the hooker turned criminal turned crimefighter who wears some very tight spandex.

Read the rest of the mini interview for all of Eckhart’s comments here (spoilers for “The Dark Knight”).

Bruce Campbell in My Name is Bruce

AICN has posted the awesome one-sheet for “My Name is Bruce”, a new horror comedy from Dark Horse Entertainment. In the movie, cult hero Bruce Campbell portrays cult hero Bruce Campbell who “is mistaken for his character Ash from the Evil Dead trilogy and forced to fight a real monster in a small town in Oregon.”  Also fighting the monster is Ted Raimi. The film was directed by Campbell from a script by Mark Verheiden.

You can check out the full poster here, and then watch the film’s trailer here. The film will be getting a limited release on October 30th, in the US. I don’t care where I have to drive, I’ll be there!

G4 Network talked to Mark Millar about his new graphic novel “War Heroes”, the film adaptation of his ongoing series “Kick-Ass” by Matthew Vaughn (Stardust), and his proposed “Superman” film trilogy that he has pitched to the WB with an unknown director. The interview then talks to “War Heroes” artist Tony Harris about the upcoming book.

The “Superman” info comes in at around the 5 minute mark, and I gotta say, it sounds really interesting. The idea of a 7 hour epic “Superman” story broken up among 3 films and shot back to back to be released every year sounds like a dream come true. Millar thinks he’ll be getting word if the WB wants to go with his proposed project within two to three weeks and ideally they would shoot next summer.
