Today is shaping up to be one great day. First the rumor that Linda Hamilton might be returning to the Terminator franchise, and now we get a report that “Maniac Cop 4” is in the works! The Maniac Cop series (the first starred the icon known as Bruce Campbell… who also cameos in the second one) is one of those crazy cult horror series that started in the late 80s at the height of the slasher genre and released two sequels in the early 90s before disappearing (for what I thought would be forever). “Maniac Cop 3: Badge of Silence” ended with a wink at the audience and the door wide open for another go around.

And now, 15 years later, we might finally get that next go around. Fangoria is reporting that William Lustig, the director of all three of the Maniac Cop films, announced at a screening of the original film this past week that he had gotten the sequel rights back for Maniac Cop. He went on to say that he is currently preparing “Maniac Cop 4” along with Larry Cohen, the franchise’s sole screenwriter.

Hopefully Lustig and Cohen get the support and freedom that they need to make this picture. I for one would love to see it on the big screen, but would definitely settle for a DVD if the film were to go that route instead.

Fangoria is hosting a free screening of the aclaimed Spanish horror film “Shiver” in New York on October 15th.

The film “concerns the plight of a teenaged boy named Santi (Junio Valverde), who suffers from a strange ailment that makes him allergic to sunlight. His single mother (Blanca Suarez) decides to relocate the two of them to a secluded home in the country, but terrifying events, dark secrets and a strange creature living in the forest await them.”

Check out this page for more details on how you can obtain tickets to this free screening.

Superman Doomsday
Plot Summary: IMDB Synopsis (warning: spoilers)
Starring: Adam Baldwin (Clark Kent/Superman), Anne Heche (Lois Lane), and James Marsters (Lex Luthor).
Directed by: Lauren Montgomery, Bruce Timm, and Brandon Vietti.

“Superman Doomsday” marks the beginning of a new era for DC Comics animation. Produced in the style Bruce Timm made famous with “Batman: The Animated Series” and “Superman”, this film is adapted straight from one of DC Comic’s most famous storylines (the Death and Return of Superman) and was made for adults. The violence in the film is brutal and unforgiving. Nothing is held back in Doomsday’s rampage, or that of the Eradicator’s (fans of the comic will recognize that name that is sadly never mentioned in the film). One character’s death leaves a nice sized pool of blood and the image of a sheet draped over a murdered 7 year old girl is unsettling. I highly recommend viewing the film before you let anyone under 13 years old watch it.

Fangoria has announced that they will be holding a free screening of the long delayed horror anthology “Trick ‘R Treat” in New York City on October 13th. The screening will be the film’s East Coast premiere and will be introduced by the film’s director Michael Doughtery (co-writer of “X-Men 2” and “Superman Returns”), who will stick around afterwards for an audience Q&A.

The film stars Anna Paquin, Brian Cox, Dylan Baker, and Leslie Bibb. IMDB lists the plot of the film as follows; Four interwoven stories that occur on Halloween: An everyday high school principal has a secret life as a serial killer; a college virgin might have just met the one guy for her; a group of teenagers pull a mean prank; a woman who loathes the night has to contend with her holiday-obsessed husband.”

Latino Review has gotten their hands on two new posters for the upcoming film adaptation of “Max Payne”. The posters, which are completely badass, focus on the title character portrayed by Mark Wahlberg. You can check them out here.  The film co-stars Chris O’Donnell, Beau Bridges, Ludacris, Mila Kunis, Donal Logue, and Amaury Nolasco. I gotta ask, where are the sexy Mila Kunis posters?

And incase you haven’t watched it yet, check out the trailer below:

Access Hollywood has posted a deleted scene from Marvel Studios’ Iron Man. The scene takes place just before Iron Man leaves to fight terrorists in the Middle East. He sets up a party, makes sure to be seen and uses three beautiful women as his alibi as he goes to fight crime.

While it is a cool scene, I’m really glad it was deleted. I understand the need for the secret identity , but this just seems like a long drawn out thing for a “hero” to do while people are dying and need his help.
