Catfish the TV Show

In 2010, a very mysterious documentary named catfish started making the rounds. It was labeled as a “shocking true story” and the advertising pushed for people to keep the secret of the movie. Ultimately the movie chronicled the story of Nev Schulman and a woman he fall for over the internet without meeting in person.  As Nev tracked her down, he realized that he had been lied to for months and that she was not the person that she said she was. As so a new term was phrased; Nev had fallen for a “catfish,” aka someone who creates a false online profile and pretends to be someone they are not. The movie spawned a reality docudrama for MTV, dubbed catfish: The TV Show, where Nev and his friend Max travel around the country and help people find out if their online love is real or if they have a catfish. The series is not only fun and intriguing, but it is also addictive. They are currently in their second season, whose story does the new episode tell?

Official Description, “Aaliyah & Alica”: Can Aaliyah Close The 70-Block Gap That Separates Her From First Love Alicia?

The new episode airs tonight on MTV at 10pm. What else is on tonight?

Welcome to an all new edition of The Pit. I hope you like our new format. As always, feel free to send suggestions and news to us through our contact form.

We have some good news and bad news for you in regards to the upcoming Robocop reboot from director José Padilha of the Elite Squad series. The very talented Hugh Laurie has sadly left the project. He was set to portray the villainous CEO of OCP.

On the up side though is that the underused and just as talented Michael Keaton is stepping into the role. The former Batman just isn’t in nearly as many movies as he should be these days. He was last seen on the big screen in The Other Guys and a guest spot on the NBC comedy 30 Rock, both of which he stole the scenes he was in. Other recent cast additions to RoboCop include Jackie Earle Haley and Jay Baruchel.

It is official! The movie and television rights to Daredevil, “man without fear”, are heading back to Marvel Studios and their parent company Disney. This is especially good news with the announcement of a Joss Whedon led SHIELD television series [SEE: Marvel’s SHIELD to Save TV!].

What better way to distance Daredevil from the forgettable Mark Steven Johnson directed 2003 flick than to reintroduce him as his alter ego, the blind lawyer Matt Murdock, in a multiple episode arc that establishes him as part of the overall universe. Maybe he is defending a villain against SHIELD in court before he teams up with the agency to take out a bigger threat? Or agents recruit him for an assignment that only he can handle because of his unique senses?

Finally, someone somewhere has come to their senses and after its sixth season (that is six too many), MTV’s Jersey Shore is coming to an end. I’m sure the network will continue to find ways to make New Jersey and fake Italians look bad. They already have too many spinoffs, including Snooki & JWoww and The Pauly D Project (for the record, any amount of spinoffs from this trash is too many).

The sixth season begins on October 4th with a special marathon and retrospective/preview for the final season on September 6th before the MTV Video Music Awards. I would have preferred it if the series had been cancelled before the sixth season, but beggars can’t be choosers.

Hatfields & McCoys: Part 1
I think this mini series from the History Channel took everyone by surprise and became a huge (record breaking) ratings hit for Cable network. If you missed it, now you can check it out online. The official description: The Hatfield-McCoy saga begins with Devil Anse Hatfield (Kevin Costner) and Randall McCoy (Bill Paxton). Close friends and comrades until near the end of the Civil War, they return to their neighboring homes—Hatfield in West Virginia, McCoy just across the Tug River border in Kentucky—to increasing tensions, misunderstandings and resentments that soon explode into all-out warfare between their families. As hostilities grow, friends, neighbors and outside forces join the fight, bringing the two states to the brink of another civil war. Watch Hatfields & McCoys: Part I online now!

Teen Wolf, “Omega” & “Shape Shifted”
The MTV werewolf series returned this past week with its second season and two new episodes.  The first episode, “Omega”: Scott and Stiles go on the hunt for Lydia while Jackson deals with the aftereffects of his bite; meanwhile, a new hunter arrives in Beacon Hills with a vendetta. Watch Teen Wolf season 2, episode 1 online! The second episode, “Shape Shifted”: Jackson anxiously awaits the next full moon, and Scott and Stiles try to rescue newly bitten Isaac from the Argents. Watch Teen Wolf season 2, episode 2 online!

Melissa & Joey, “I Can Manage”
Teen Wolf wasn’t the only show to just start up its second season, ABC Family’s comedy returned last Wednesday with a new episode. Official description: With everyone living in tight quarters, Mel and Joe are at odds with a contractor for their home renovation; Lennox writes and performs in a controversial school play. Watch Melissa & Joey season 2, episode 1 online!

The bone heads are getting closer to returning to the idiot box. Excited yet? Since MTV took the Music out of the M they have been building up their scripted slate of shows, including the much talked about Skins (adapted from the UK series) and the upcoming Teen Wolf (loosely adapted from the Michel J Fox film), and soon we’ll have a revival of Mike Judge’s classic series, Beavis and Butt-Head. A really smart move IMO.

MTV President Van Toffler talked to Rolling Stone about the show and what we can expect.  Cool enough, the series will keep the original formatting, with episodes broken up with the guys on the couch watching television. Originally they watched and mocked music videos, but the new show will expand that to also include shows like MTV’s own Jersey Shore, along with UFC fights, and even YouTube videos.  Toffler also promises that they will still be watching music videos – on the Music-less MTV. Thankfully Mike Judge is returning to run the show, I would not have even thought about watching it without him.

Who are you looking forward to Beavis and Butt-Head making fun of? Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, and Miley Cyrus all come to mind. TV show wise I’d love to see what the guys think of American Idol and Glee… I wonder if FOX would be okay with that? I doubt it, we’ll most likely see cross branding with other Viacom owned properties/networks. The guys return to our screens this summer.

I usually don’t do this for TV (that is PJ’s department), but there is a lot going on and shows are finally new again!

  • Oh god why. Somebody please take away their passports… MTV has revealed that the forth season of Jersey Shore will shoot in Italy. Do we really need these lowlifes making Italy look bad with their antics? Please just cancel this disgusting show.
  • Chuck is still the best show on television. If you don’t watch it… you should! Thankfully for you the last couple of episodes can be viewed online!
  • I did not see this coming, but Regis Philbin is exiting Live with Regis and Kelly after 27 years hosting the morning program. On the program he said it was due to his age and a desire to retire, but behind the scenes reports point towards his ego and wanting more money when the network wanted to lower his salary after dwindling ratings and increased vacation time. Not for nothing, I think the show could be a lot better without him. He has been “sleep walking” for years. Give the spot to someone like Anderson Cooper, who has always been very entertaining in his guest spots.
  • Nathan Lane is returning to the funniest show on TV, Modern Family, on an upcoming episode. In the episode, Lane joins Mitch and Cam on a “boys night out” that Ed O’Neill’s Jay stumbles into. Hilarity ensues.
  • Booster Gold and Blue Beetle have been cast for an upcoming Smallville episode (I smell a spinoff!). Sebastian Spence, who has appeared in such TV shows as Battlestar Galactica and Supernatural will be BB and Eric Martsolf, who has appeared on Days of Our Lives and Passions among other TV shows, will be the time traveling hero Booster Gold. I can not wait for this episode, which was scripted by comic book writer Geoff Johns.

The Pit v3 Logo

Welcome to another edition of The Pit. Lots of stuff is happening in the world of entertainment, here is a sampling.

  • The good news? Damages (one of the best shows on TV) has been renewed for two more seasons! The bad news? It will only be shown on Direct TV. I’ll have to wait for DVD to see the new seasons. But on the plus side, I usually let Damages episodes build on Tivo and watch them back to back anyway.
  • EW has a first look at the Lost DVD short that focuses on Hurley and Ben’s time running the island after the finale. Check it out here. I can’t wait for the DVD box set and this short film. So excited for even just a little bit more of Lost!
  • OMFG! Lindsay Lohan begins her jail time today… Really, who the F cares? *rolls eyes*
  • In another eye rolling story, the talentless cast of Jersey Shore is threatening to strike days before they are supposed to begin shooting their third season. It looks like MTV is going to give them huge raises to stay on the show, instead of doing the smart thing and replacing them all. I can’t wait until the world gets past the “being an a-hole” makes you a celebrity phase.
  • Have you checked out A&E network’s The Glades? The new series follows Matt Passmore as Jim Longworth, a homicide detective from Chicago who relocates to the sleepy middle of nowhere town of Palm Glade, Florida. While it appears like a easy/low key job, murders begin popping which forces detective Longworth to prove his worth. If you missed it’s premiere, it has been added to 141tv’s Free Video Guide.
  • There is a new trailer for Resident Evil: Afterlife. This one gives us a better idea of the story and a ton of different versions of Milla. This movie is going to be so epic-ly bad that it will be awesome! Check out the film’s poster and first trailer here.

Kanye West Singing

Kanye West unveiled a new single yesterday to close the MTV Music Video Awards. The song, “Love Lockdown“, is the first single from Kanye’s new [untitled] album, that is set to be released in December. Keep reading to watch the performance.
