X-Men: Battle of the Atom 1

Here we go! X-Men: Battle of the Atom is here. After 15 issues of All-New X-Men with the original team in the present fighting to fix “their future” and the fall out from “X-Men vs Avengers” felt deeply in Uncanny X-Men, and Wolverine’s continued growth along with the future generation of mutants in Wolverine and the X-Men, we have a lot coming to head in the first crossover that will take us through these books to deal with the consequences of time travel. A future team of X-Men will be coming to the present in an effort to set things right” and get the original X-Men to return to their time, but there is much more going on with sentinels (as seen above) and a mystery villain from the future.

Deadpool Kills Deadpool Issue 1

Recently we took a look at an epic battle and tried to figure out who would win in a fight between the Marvel Comic anti-hero Deadpool and the DC Comics villain Deathstroke. People are very split on the results. Now, Marvel is presenting an even harder question; who would win in a fight of Deadpool vs Deadpool… Wait, what?

Deadpool Kills Deadpool is an all new four part limited series from writer Cullen Bunn and artist Salva Espin. It is the final limited series in a trilogy of four parters dubbed “The Deadpool Killogy” that began in “Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe” where he went on a rampage and took out Marvel’s big guns, and continued in “Deadpool Killustrated” where the Merc with a Mouth took out such literary classic characters as Moby Dick, Tom Sawyer, Scrooge, the Three Musketeers, and Sherlock Holmes. Now, Deadpool is jumping across universes to kill all of the versions of himself that are out there. So get ready for Deadpool vs Deadpool vs Deadpool vs Deadpool. Maybe after he clears out these versions of himself he’ll head to the DC Comics universe and take on Deathstroke?

Marvel Comics The Superior Foes of Spider-Man issue 1

If the “Superior Spider-Man” is a villain in a hero’s body, shouldn’t the “Superior Foes of Spider-Man” be heroes in villain’s bodies? In the very least, shouldn’t they be A-List villains and not baddies like Boomerang, Shocker, Speed Demon, the Beetle, and Overdrive? (wait, who the heck are Speed Demon, the Beetle, and Overdrive?)

These “sinister” jokers would get their @$$es handed to them by an actual Sinister Six. The original team in 1964 included Doctor Octopus, Vulture, Electro, Kraven the Hunter, Mysterio, and Sandman and various versions included such characters as Venom, Lizard, Chameleon, and Hobgoblin. Any of these guys, minus the very busy Doctor Octopus aka Superior Spider-Man, would make a better choice to lead a new Sinister Six and headline a book of villains than Boomerang. Writer Nick Spencer and artist Steve Lieber have a tall mountain to climb, so it should be interesting to see where this new ongoing title goes.

The Superior Foes of Spider-Man #1
Official Description: BRAND NEW ON-GOING! Boomerang and some of Spidey’s deadliest baddies prove that with terrible powers come terrible responsibilities! Rising Star Nick Spencer teams with Eisner Award winning sensation Steve Lieber for a walk on the Spider-Verse’s evil side!

Take a look at this new “superior” ongoing series when it comes out on Wednesday July 3rd, 2013 from Marvel Comics. When will we see the Superior Spider-Man vs the new Sinister Six in the book? Pick up the first issue and maybe you’ll see!

Batman/Superman #1

With Man of Steel in theaters, DC Comics is expanding the line of titles with the original superhero. His newest title teams him with The Dark Knight, Batman. Are they sending a subtle message to producer Christopher Nolan and director Zack Snyder about where they should go with the Man of Steel sequel or who he should maybe team up with in the movie? Batman/Superman #1 brings the reader back to the two hero’s first meeting in the “New 52” universe. Did they start out as friends? Foes?

Batman/Superman #1
Official Description: When a young Clark Kent arrives Gotham City in search of answers regarding a series of murders in Metropolis, he runs smack into Bruce Wayne himself. From the moment they meet, these two untested heroes’ approaches to protecting others could not be more different. BATMAN/SUPERMAN #1 launches the reader on an incredible journey that stretches from Gotham to Metropolis and worlds beyond. Featuring a story by celebrated writer Greg Pak and stunning artwork by Jae Lee and Ben Oliver.

The issue hits stands from DC Comics on Wednesday June 26, 2013.

After ten issues and countless spinoffs, Age of Ultron issue 10 has finally hit stands. The book has promised to change the shape of the Marvel Universe with a big twist and lasting effects- I will not spoil things here, but go get the issue and see for yourself. Big changes? Yeah, I’d say so. Lasting effects? That is more of a wait and see. Can’t say for sure without seeing where they go with this. In the very least, the end of Age of Ultron could explain some of the holes created with the slow staggered launch of “Marvel Now!”.

Age of Ultron #10
Official Description: THE FINALE! The biggest secret in comics will be revealed to you! An ending so confidential… even the artists of this book don’t know what lies on the final pages…! A surprise so big that comic book legend Joe Quesada himself returns to the pages of Marvel Comics to draw a sequence that people will be talking about for years.

The issue hit stands this past Wednesday, June 19th, 2013 from Marvel Comics.

Between DC Comic’s “The New 52” and Marvel “Now”, it is refreshing to see ongoing titles with more than a 100 issues; series that have a rich history and aren’t afraid of high numbers. I used to follow and collect Sara Pezinni’s adventures as Witchblade and I can’t remember why I stopped following the Image Comic (it could have had to do with the awful television adaption of the comic, or more likely, life got in the way).

Issue #167 kicks off a new arc with Part 1 of “Absolute Corruption” from writer Tim Seeley and artist Diego Bernard. It always used to be fun when Sara was forced to team up or faceoff against past Witchblade wielders. Here we go again…

Witchblade #167
Official Description: The bitter, former Witchblade bearer Katarina has transcended the Faerie realm, travelling to Chicago to intercept the fugitive murderer Toio Mulranny. And she’s going to get the Witchblade’s help to catch him, whether Sara Pezinni wants to or not.

The issue hits stands on Wednesday, June 19th, 2013 from Image Comics.

Okay, I’ll be honest here, I usually skip comic anthologies. Random stand alone stories just don’t interest me as much as ongoing stories do. These are usually throw away stories that you can skip and not feel like you missed a beat... But Dark Horse Presents #25 has Buffy the Vampire Slayer on the cover and I’m a sucker for Buffy tie ins. This particular stand alone story spins right out of the newest issue of Buffy (#22) and deals with one of the slayer’s newest allies, Billy, as he returns home to fight off the growing Zompire population that is wrecking havoc. What the heck, I’ll give it a shot. What other stories does the anthology have?

Dark Horse Presents #25
Official Description: After training with Buffy, Billy the vampire slayer heads back to his hometown to deal with the zompire epidemic! Delve into a time-travel story from Eisner Award–winning writer Matt Fraction! Mike Richardson adapts Andrew Vachss’ vision of violence in the big city in Undergound! Read an installment of The Chapel Chronicles by fifteen-year-old Emma T Capps!  Plus, new installments of Trekker, Blackout, Nexus, Crime Does Not Pay, Brain Boy, King’s Road, and Bloodhound!

The issue comes out from Dark Horse Comics next Wednesday, June 19th, 2013, from more writers and artists than I can count.
