After ten issues and countless spinoffs, Age of Ultron issue 10 has finally hit stands. The book has promised to change the shape of the Marvel Universe with a big twist and lasting effects- I will not spoil things here, but go get the issue and see for yourself. Big changes? Yeah, I’d say so. Lasting effects? That is more of a wait and see. Can’t say for sure without seeing where they go with this. In the very least, the end of Age of Ultron could explain some of the holes created with the slow staggered launch of “Marvel Now!”.

Age of Ultron #10
Official Description: THE FINALE! The biggest secret in comics will be revealed to you! An ending so confidential… even the artists of this book don’t know what lies on the final pages…! A surprise so big that comic book legend Joe Quesada himself returns to the pages of Marvel Comics to draw a sequence that people will be talking about for years.

The issue hit stands this past Wednesday, June 19th, 2013 from Marvel Comics.

Between DC Comic’s “The New 52” and Marvel “Now”, it is refreshing to see ongoing titles with more than a 100 issues; series that have a rich history and aren’t afraid of high numbers. I used to follow and collect Sara Pezinni’s adventures as Witchblade and I can’t remember why I stopped following the Image Comic (it could have had to do with the awful television adaption of the comic, or more likely, life got in the way).

Issue #167 kicks off a new arc with Part 1 of “Absolute Corruption” from writer Tim Seeley and artist Diego Bernard. It always used to be fun when Sara was forced to team up or faceoff against past Witchblade wielders. Here we go again…

Witchblade #167
Official Description: The bitter, former Witchblade bearer Katarina has transcended the Faerie realm, travelling to Chicago to intercept the fugitive murderer Toio Mulranny. And she’s going to get the Witchblade’s help to catch him, whether Sara Pezinni wants to or not.

The issue hits stands on Wednesday, June 19th, 2013 from Image Comics.

Okay, I’ll be honest here, I usually skip comic anthologies. Random stand alone stories just don’t interest me as much as ongoing stories do. These are usually throw away stories that you can skip and not feel like you missed a beat... But Dark Horse Presents #25 has Buffy the Vampire Slayer on the cover and I’m a sucker for Buffy tie ins. This particular stand alone story spins right out of the newest issue of Buffy (#22) and deals with one of the slayer’s newest allies, Billy, as he returns home to fight off the growing Zompire population that is wrecking havoc. What the heck, I’ll give it a shot. What other stories does the anthology have?

Dark Horse Presents #25
Official Description: After training with Buffy, Billy the vampire slayer heads back to his hometown to deal with the zompire epidemic! Delve into a time-travel story from Eisner Award–winning writer Matt Fraction! Mike Richardson adapts Andrew Vachss’ vision of violence in the big city in Undergound! Read an installment of The Chapel Chronicles by fifteen-year-old Emma T Capps!  Plus, new installments of Trekker, Blackout, Nexus, Crime Does Not Pay, Brain Boy, King’s Road, and Bloodhound!

The issue comes out from Dark Horse Comics next Wednesday, June 19th, 2013, from more writers and artists than I can count.

Everything in the past 22 issues has been leading up to this. All of Angel’s planning and his journey with Faith is coming to a head. Did the spell work? Has Giles been resurrected? The issue’s description does not lead on, but thankfully for us, the issue came out last week. I’ve really enjoyed how this series has played out and I hope that it ends as well as it has been. Big props to writer Christos Gage and artist Rebekah Isaacs. I know were only on issue two of the last arc, but I hope that we have some resolution to the “season’s” journey.

Angel & Faith #22
Giles’s resurrection has been pushed to the back burner while Angel and Faith tackle Season 9’s Big Bads—Pearl, Nash, and Whistler—who threaten to release boundless magic over the planet. Only the strong will survive!

Why are you still here? Go find out if Giles is back!

Well, it is that time again… we have a new X-Men #1. This series relaunches more than most people change their underwear. This relaunch in particular is starting with a bit of a twist, and would be more properly titled X-Women as it features some of the X-Men’s most famous heroines teaming up minus the gentlemen of the atom. Lead by Storm, the team features Shadowcat, Jubilee, Rachel Summers, Rogue, and Psyclocke.

(spoilers, maybe?) Can anyone explain just what is happening with Jubilee? She lost her powers, then was turned into a vampire, and now on these covers she looks back to her old self… um? I have only been following X-titles with “Factor”, “All New”, or “Wolverine and” in the titles… I guess I missed a few things.

X-Men #1
Official Description: Because you demanded it! The X-Women finally get their own book, from critically acclaimed superstars Brian Wood and Olivier Coipel! An old enemy shows up at the X-Men’s door, seeking asylum from an ancient evil come back to earth. Meanwhile, Jubilee has come home, and she’s brought with her an orphaned baby who might hold the key to the earth’s survival…or its destruction. Against a backdrop of what seems like an alien invasion and an eons-spanning war between brother and sister, Storm steps up and puts together a team to protect the child and stop a new threat that could destroy all life on earth!

The Marvel comic will hit stores and the digital market place on May 29th, 2013. Will you be picking it up and following the adventures of the first X-Women team?

I have not picked up a DC Comic title in over a year. Yeah, I wasn’t a fan of their decision to reboot their entire line with “The New 52 while picking and choosing what to keep and change. Talk about a cluster $&#@. Certain characters, like Superman for example, were changed so much that I didn’t recognize the character that I have followed for the past twenty years. So why bother?

Then I see a cover like this. Two of my favorite characters, the Phantom Stranger and the Question, who have both been grossly underused in the past. Now taking center stage in the new “universe”. Back before the reboot, the Question in particular was killed and replaced with a sub-par supporting character. So, maybe not all of the changes have been so bad… Should I give “The New 52” a shot?

The Phantom Stranger #7
Official Description: Do you dare ask who slayed the Stranger?

The new issue hit stands and the digital market place today, April 3rd. It was written by Dan DiDio and J.M. DeMatteis, with art by Gene Ha and Zander Cannon.

I have been saying for a very long time that X-Factor is easily the best (and most consistent) series that Marvel Comics puts out. Peter David connects the reader to these characters (all of which are b-level at best) like few can. Year of his stories are coming to a head as the team is caught in the middle of the “Hell on Earth War”. Darwin finally returned recently and now it would appear that Strong Guy is following suit… to bad it would appear that like Darwin, Strong Guy is on the wrong side of this fight.

X-Factor #250
Official Description: The story years in the making continues here as X-Factor struggles to stop the Lords of Hell from tearing the Earth apart in their battle for dominance! Familiar faces will return as the battle reaches a fever pitch, the first of whom is STRONG GUY! And he has a bone to pick with his former teammates…

The issue hits stands this Wednesday, February 6th, 2013. If you were not aware, X-Factor’s writer Peter David had a stroke at the end of the year and could use his fans help. Find out more on how you can help over on his personal blog.
