Next week sees the return of the world of Robert Kirkman’s The Walking Dead in the new weekly series Skybound X. And I’m not even talking about the lead story in the series being “Rick Grimes 2000” (pictured above left), which is a sci-fi based re-imagining of the fan favorite zombie killer (as introduced in TWD #75). What I’m talking about is the first comic appearance of Clementine from Telltale’s The Walking Dead video game. She will be introduced in a stand alone story in Skybound X before spinning off into her own ongoing titled Clementine, that will be written and drawn by Tillie Walden. I’m excited that we can return to the world established in The Walking Dead, and while I love Kirkman, I’m also excited to see someone new playing in his sandbox. Check out these awesome variant covers featuring Clementine (I’ll be picking up the cover on the right):

The Walking Dead - Season 6

We are less than two weeks until the new season of The Walking Dead and I couldn’t be more excited! If like me you are having trouble with the wait, thankfully there are a lot of new goodies to fill the time.

First up, the cast chats about their expectations in the new season in this behind the scenes clip. The video features Andrew Lincoln (Rick), Steven Yeun (Glenn), Greg Nicotero (Executive Producer), Denise Huth (Co-Executive Producer), and others.

In addition to new video, we have multiple new galleries of images. The first one is new images from the season 6 along with promo images of the cast. And the second one is a really cool gallery of character portraits. I love the current cast and I’m so happy that they have announced that Jesus will be joining the cast in the new season. From his first appearance, Jesus has been one of my favorite characters in the comic (filling the void left by SPOILER? Tyrese’s death for me). They cast Tom Payne in the role, I haven’t seen his past work, but he sure looks the part!

What do you hope to see in the new season?

Fear The Walking Dead

Last month, the spinoff to the hugely popular The Walking Dead began its first season on AMC. The series, Fear the Walking Dead is a prequel of sorts, which shows the beginning of the zombie apocalypse. The pilot has been posted online to watch for free, and it is worth a watch!

Episode Details: Season 1, Episode 1 “Pilot” A highly dysfunctional blended family is forced together when they realize a reported virus is actually the onset of the undead apocalypse.

You can watch the series opener online for free here. The show stars Kim Dickens, Cliff Curtis, Frank Dillane, Alycia Debnam-Carey, Elizabeth Rodriguez, Mercedes Mason, Lorenzo James Henrie, and Rubén Blades, and was co-created by The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman and Sons of Anarchy writer Dave Erickson.

The Walking Dead returns with its 6th season on October 11, 2015.

All season has been building to this; the prison vs Woodbury. The preview show’s Woodbury’s evil “Governor” leading an army that outnumbers Rick’s prison crew by at least two (if not three) to one. Will there be a massacre at the prison? Does Rick have a plan up his sleeve? Will they abandon ship? As readers of this website know, I am a long time fan of The Walking Dead comics and the thing that amazes me about where we are in the show is that I have no idea what will happen next. The television series is so different than the comic and both are as suspenseful and intriguing as each other. I can not wait to see what happens next.

Official description, “Welcome to the Tombs”: With the Governor’s attack looming, Rick and his people need to determine if the prison is worth defending.

The Walking Dead season finale airs tonight on AMC at 9pm. After the episode, Talking Dead takes viewers behind the scenes and host Chris Hardwick talks to some of the brains behind the show. Also on tonight…

Last week’s episode of The Walking Dead proved that the zombie show is not just one of TV’s good shows, it is one of TV’s great shows, thanks to last week’s amazing, gut wrenching episode that left me (and I know pretty much everybody else) in tears at the very end. I will say this, The Walking Dead has quickly redeemed itself from the mistakes it made in the first season and has finally allowed itself to really transfer the genius of the comic book series to television screens.

In tonight’s episode, I cannot help but wonder just how far Rick will have fallen and how far Carl will rise thanks to the events of last week’s episode. I’m also looking forward to seeing the newly hinted, more hinged dynamic that is starting to develop between the far more sympathetic Merle and the Governor as I know they’re going to butt heads sooner rather then later. It is weird to say that for a zombie show, its most compelling elements are not the zombie kills and the tension that comes from the zombie action but the characters themselves. For what felt like a season finale episode, I cannot wait to see what happens next in this series- if it keeps up this trend, The Walking Dead could do the unthinkable and actually win an Emmy, something nobody would have thought possible for a show that’s initial draw was that it was a show with zombies. Kudos to the creative team, just, kudos!!!

Episode Description, “Say the Word”: Rick struggles after experiencing another loss; Michonne has her suspicions about the Governor, who throws a party for the people of Woodbury, but gives it an unusual twist.

I’m still semi in shock from last months 100th issue of The Walking Dead, where (slight spoiler) one of the most beloved character in the series was killed in what was easily the most brutal and hard to read deaths in the series. And for those familiar with The Walking Dead, writer/creator Robert Kirkman doesn’t hold back. We’ve seen people get eaten alive, beheaded, their throats ripped out… we’ve even seen a woman holding a baby get gunned down killing them both. This death was particularly hard after getting to know and love the character over 99 issues. He was one of few characters that I thought were safe. Kirkman, as he has in the past, proved that no one was safe and I’m very anxious about who might be killed in the last three issues of “Something to Fear”.

The Walking Dead #101
Official Description: “SOMETHING TO FEAR” continues! In the aftermath of the events of the monumental 100th issue… things are not going well.

The issue comes out later today. I’ll be waiting for the doors to the comic store to open to get my hands on it. The Walking Dead remains the only ongoing title that I need to get right when I can. It is IMHO the best title on the market today. Have you been following “Something to Fear”? Did the last issue shock you? What do you think will happen next?

We are only a couple months away from the milestone 100th issue of Robert Kirkman’s The Walking Dead. If you have been to this site in the past, then you know that it is my favorite ongoing comic and while most titles get worse with age, The Walking Dead has consistently been an entertaining edge of your seat thrill ride and a character study of normal people coping with the end of the world. It spawned one of the best shows on television (and the highest rated Cable series ever), although as good as the show is, it does not hold a candle to the comic.

Now might be a good time to go back and reread the first issue of the series and thanks to Image Comics, you can legally read The Walking Dead issue 1 (and issue 49) online for free. If you are a fan of the television version of The Walking Dead, I highly (HIGHLY) recommend checking out the first issue and considering ordering the trades online. If you have never heard of The Walking Dead before reading this post, it is a comic series in which a Sheriff deputy and family man, Rick Grimes, wakes up from a coma in a hospital to discover that the world has been overrun by zombies.  Not knowing how long he was out cold, he must regain his strength and fight through hordes of the undead to find and protect his family. Along the way he runs into a lot of different survivors and finds out that some or much worse than the zombies.
