Yesterday saw the release of Secret Warriors from Marvel Comics. The issue was written by Brian Michael Bendis and Jonathan Hickman, with art by Stefano Caselli and a cover by Jim Cheung. Why is this issue worth reading? Because it has been far too long since Nick Fury had a series. Warriors ties into the recent “Secret Invasion” and its outcome, “Dark Reign,” and features Fury leading a team of young heroes against the new corrupt power within the Marvel Universe. The series promises super-powered spies, global criminal empires and just what happened to agents of S.H.I.E.L.D when the organization was dismantled.
My favorite thing about Nick Fury is the fact that even without powers, he’d step right into the face of any super villain and stare them down. Calling him a tough SOB is an understatement. So for Fury alone, I will check this out. I’ll be interesting to see if he’ll be enough to make me pick it up next month too.
