Who would have thought that Myspace would still be good for anything? Not me for one. But if you head over to Dark Horse Comic’s Myspace page you are treated to dozens of free digital comics.

The one I’m going to look at right now is a special 4 part The Goon story. Part I is “The Big Blue Note” which was written and drawn by The Fillbach Brothers with colors by Wil Glass. Part II is “Bogged Down at Bush Street” by Rebecca Sugar and Frans Boukas. Part III is “A Reasonable Amount of Trouble” written by John Arcudi with art by Herb Trimpe and colors by Dan Jackson. Part IV is “Enter the Pecker” written and drawn by Bob Fingerman.

Read the free The Goon online comic book here. For those out of the know; The Goon, created by Eric Powell, is a pulp crime comic book mixed with violent/dark comedy elements and a paranormal twist- basically everything I love in a story.

The Goon has had a movie in development for a while with creator Eric Powell writing it and David Fincher producing it. They even got as far as showing test footage at the 2010 San Diego Comic Con. But sadly, there is no new movement on the animated feature. Here is hoping that it will move forward in the future.

Next Wednesday, August 31st Buffy the Vampire Slayer “season 9” begins with Angel & Faith #1 from Dark Horse Comics. The once rouge slayer will be teaming up with the vampire with a soul for a new 25 issue series that will see them move to England and continue their own personal fights for redemption.  On to the official description for issues number one:

Left in a near-catatonic state following the events in Buffy Season 8, Angel will need a seriously rude awakening if he’s to make amends for his ill-conceived deeds. Enter rebel Slayer with a cause–Faith Lehane. Together they’ll have full access to the Watcher files and opportunities to make amends for all they’ve done . . . and will do.

The issue is written by Christos Gage with interior art by Rebekah Isaacs, and overseen by Buffy creator Joss Whedon. I can’t wait for the new issue and to see how it will tie in with the new season of Buffy comics.

Also from Dark Horse Comics next week is The Goon #35. The official description of the issue:

Goon and Franky stumble upon a bizarre freak show at Brigadoon’s Dreamland Carnival, where the evil barker pits the Goon against a horrendous, bacon-eating behemoth, the Ten-in-One!

The Goon creator/artist Eric Powell is joined by writer Evan Dorkin. While I’m not familar with Dorkin’s work, I absolutely love Powell’s Goon artwork. You can pick up both issues next Wednesday.

Buzzard, Comic Dark Horse

Next Wednesday, Dark Horse Comics spins off The Goon with Buzzard #1 from writer/artist Eric Powell. In the series, Buzzard is lost and confused following his confrontation with Zombie Priest (in “Goon Year”), and wanders into the shadowy spirit realm of the forest. Here he comes face to face with a race of savages who have been hunting local villagers.

The issue features a back-up story, “Billy the Kid’s Old Timey Oddities”, which revives the 2005 series by Powell and artist Kyle Hotz, and marches towards September’s three issue series focusing on the Kid.

I don’t know about you, but I absolutely love the art in the above cover/page. It has a clean yet surreal style, which is perfect for a character that is as lost as Buzzard is. Will you be checking out the new series? Do you follow The Goon? Amazon sells a ton of trades for The Goon, you can check them out at these links…
