The Pit v3 Logo

Welcome to the Pit, fall into it!

  • The guys over at Sans Pants Productions have a new comedy spoof. This one takes aim at Sesame Street. What is up with the Count anyway? Funny stuff.
  • ABC is adapting the classic James Cameron action spy-comedy True Lies for the small screen. Sadly, A-Nold will not be involved, but I still think the material could warrant a really good show. We shall see.  NBC should have tried to grab this and pair it with Chuck on Monday nights. Oh, how I miss Chuck, less than 3 days until the premiere! Now with 100% more Linda Hamilton.
  • Ben Affleck’s The Town comes out this weekend. It looks really good. Who would have ever thought that Ben Affleck would become a better director than Kevin Smith? Wow, what a weird alternate world we live in!
  • Interested in making it big in Hollywood? What about a virtual Hollywood? Hollywood the Game is an awesome Hollywood Simulation where you write, cast, advertise, and making movies (and TV!). Check it out.  HTG is entering it’s 9th season of TV! What shows made the cut?
  • Enjoying any summer TV shows? Movies? Video games? Comics? Books? Music? Let us know in the comments!

As you can see, our short vacation has ended and we are fully back into the swing of things.  Big thanks to Lucian for continuing his Wrestling Recaps while I have been gone.  I have not been able to check out Scott Pilgrim vs. the World yet, but I’ve wanted to see it for a while and Lucian’s review only makes me want to see it more. Anyhow, I’m happy to be back with a new Pit and this week’s edition will have a slight superhero slant (sorry, but sooooo much has been going on while I’ve been out).

  • Okay, first up is the confirmation that X-Men: First Class will feature the Hellfire Club. That’s right, it is confirmed that Kevin Bacon will be the villainous Sebastian Shaw with Mad Men‘s January Jones will be Emma Frost, aka the White Queen. How does this fit into the past films with Emma being featured by Tahyna Tozzi in X-Men Origins: Wolverine? The film will start in the 1960s with James McAvoy’s Charles Xavier and Michael Fassbender’s Magneto working together for the future of mutant kind.  I hate that they’ve cast a younger Mystique… she’s a shape shifter, she can look as young as she wants forever. They should have kept Rebecca Romijn if we ever see an of age Mystique. At least it would feel a little connected to the other films. We shall see…
  • Okay, lets move off one X-Men prequel and onto another one: X-Men Origins: Wolverine 2 (god, I hope that isn’t going to be the official title).  It has been rumored for a while that the film would take Wolverine to Japan where he’d train to be a samurai warrior and fight the likes of Silver Samurai.  Yeah, so the Wolverine we met in the first X-Men film was no samurai, I guess that means he’ll be getting shot with another memory wiping bullet? Ugh.  Prequels are stupid, just make a good damn sequel.
  • Yesterday I checked out DC Comic’s animated Superman/Batman: Public Enemies and I gotta say, I dug it. DC has really been on a roll with its animated features, Superman Doomsday and Justice League:  The New Frontier were both very well done. I wasn’t before, but now I’m really interested in the Man of Steel and the Dark Knight’s next animated team up in Superman/Batman: Apocalypse. The film once again features Tim Daly as Superman and Kevin Conroy as Batman, and they are joined by genre fan favorite Summer Glau as Supergirl.
  • Okay, so this isn’t movie related, but it is both comic adaptation related and Batman related. It has been a long time, but Batman and Scooby-Doo will meet again!  An upcoming episode of Batman: The Brave and the Bold will feature the cartoon dog and Batman teaming up to solve a case. While I don’t regularly watch the series, I will be checking out this episode.
  • According to Mark Millar, Kick-Ass 2 has been officially greenlighted and we be based on his upcoming graphic novel follow up to the first series. Matthew Vaughn did an awesome job adapting Kick-Ass for the big screen. He knew just what to cut and what to keep to make the film as good as it can be. I hope Millar learns from what Vaughn did with the film to craft the sequel series.
  • AICN has been reporting that Fox has narrowed the possible directors list for its Fantastic Four reboot to James McTeigue, Joe Carnahan, and David Yates. None of them get me excited about the film.  McTeigue could make it visually impressive, Carnahan would be just as bad as Tim Story, and Yates is a passable director, but is he suited for the first family of superheroes? There is also a rumor that the studio wants a CGI Thing voiced by Bruce Willis. Um… okay.
  • Disney and Marvel Comics are moving forward with an Iron Fist movie! The karate expert with literal fists of fury could make a decent film. In the past, Ray Parks was rumored to be in the running for the role and I still think he’d make a great fit. I’m assuming that Disney will want to make the film be a kid friendly action flick. Hopefully we’ll see Luke Cage in it.
  • No MJ in the Spider-Man reboot? That’s the rumor from THR. If it is true, I can understand the need to want to distance the movie from the Raimi trilogy, but this is just plain stupid. Have MJ, have Gwen, and just concentrate on making the best Spider-Man movie possible. If this is true, it’d bring my interest for this re-do to zero.

Excited about all of the upcoming comic book flicks? Sound off in our comments!

The Mid-Week Pit, Wolverine, Star Wars, Lost, Harry Potter, Action Movies

Welcome to another (mid-week) Pit! After this post, the site will be going on a semi-hiatus for two weeks. During that time, you’ll still be getting your weekly wrestling recap, and maybe a review or two, but general news and opinions will be on hold. As usual, thanks for visiting and making the site a success!

  • Green Lantern‘s Kilowog has been revealed and sadly (like everything else about the film) it looks really bad. I’ve waited so long for a GL film, and I hate what it looks like so far. I hope they surprise me. Right now, I’m worried about DC Comics film adaptations in general.
  • The X-Men vs the Hellfire Club in First Class? Recent rumors point to Kevin Bacon playing Sebastian Shaw, and now even more rumors have been going around that Sarah Harding could be portraying either Selene. This fits in with the fact that Emma Frost, aka the White Queen, has a key role in the film.  Sadly, without Hugh Jackman in the film, we will not be able to have the iconic image of Wolverine in the sewer ready to save the team.
  • We talked about the Scott Pilgrim avatar creator the other day, but there is also a revamed Mad Men avatar creator (which is the bomb!). Check it out here.
  • Interested in making it big in Hollywood? What about a virtual Hollywood? Hollywood the Game is an awesome Hollywood Simulation where you write, cast, advertise, and making movies (and TV!). Check it out.
  • There is a new trailer for this weekend’s epic action film release, The Expendables. I want to see this movie right now, no, make that two days ago!

It is a new week, and there is a lot going on.

  • Warner Brothers Animation has announced a new Green Lantern series that will be fully computer-generated. It is set to follow Hal Jordan, Kilowog, and an unspecific Red Lantern.  This is the first fully computer generated series with DC Comics superheroes.  There is rumored to be a Batman CG series that will follow this one also.  I’m not sure how I feel about this. I love classic animation and DC/WB put on some great superhero shows. I guess I’ll give the new style shows a chance, but if it isn’t broken, I don’t see why they are trying to “fix” it.
  • I have to do a shout out for myself, please head over to YouTube and watch The Paw! It is a little modern noir. You can also watch it on our side bar, thanks!
  • Scott Pilgrim vs the World has a new i-trailer! This movie looks awesome, and I can’t wait to see it.
  • The Twilight Saga took home 12 award wins at the Teen Choice Awards, proving once again that teens are stupid.
  • This is shaping up to be a really awesome weekend at the movies. In addition to the above mentioned Scott Pilgrim, we also have Stallone’s action flick The ExpendablesExpendables features the biggest cast of ass kickers ever assembled. I can’t wait to sit down and finish off two large popcorn buckets while it’s on.
  • Enjoying any summer TV shows? Movies? Video games? Comics? Books? Music? Let us know in the comments!

The Pit v3 Logo

Welcome to another edition of The Pit. Lots of stuff is happening in the world of entertainment, here is a sampling.

  • The good news? Damages (one of the best shows on TV) has been renewed for two more seasons! The bad news? It will only be shown on Direct TV. I’ll have to wait for DVD to see the new seasons. But on the plus side, I usually let Damages episodes build on Tivo and watch them back to back anyway.
  • EW has a first look at the Lost DVD short that focuses on Hurley and Ben’s time running the island after the finale. Check it out here. I can’t wait for the DVD box set and this short film. So excited for even just a little bit more of Lost!
  • OMFG! Lindsay Lohan begins her jail time today… Really, who the F cares? *rolls eyes*
  • In another eye rolling story, the talentless cast of Jersey Shore is threatening to strike days before they are supposed to begin shooting their third season. It looks like MTV is going to give them huge raises to stay on the show, instead of doing the smart thing and replacing them all. I can’t wait until the world gets past the “being an a-hole” makes you a celebrity phase.
  • Have you checked out A&E network’s The Glades? The new series follows Matt Passmore as Jim Longworth, a homicide detective from Chicago who relocates to the sleepy middle of nowhere town of Palm Glade, Florida. While it appears like a easy/low key job, murders begin popping which forces detective Longworth to prove his worth. If you missed it’s premiere, it has been added to 141tv’s Free Video Guide.
  • There is a new trailer for Resident Evil: Afterlife. This one gives us a better idea of the story and a ton of different versions of Milla. This movie is going to be so epic-ly bad that it will be awesome! Check out the film’s poster and first trailer here.

The Mid-Week Pit, Wolverine, Star Wars, Lost, Harry Potter, Action Movies

Welcome to an all new (midweek) Pit! Enjoy…

  • Our friends at 141tv have posted the 2010 Emmy Nominations along with predictions.  I don’t agree with them, but he makes some interesting picks.
  • The Examiner is reporting that Mike Judge is at work on 30 new episodes of the cult animated series Beavis and Butt-Head. This is only a rumor for now, but I think that would be a pretty cool move by MTV. They are trying to move from their slate of reality shows and into more scripted series. What woul dbe better than bringing back their most famous scripted series. The site says that the show will retain its original format with music videos cut into the show with B&B doing their usual commentary.
  • A few more actors join X-Men: First Class, including Caleb Landry Jones as Banshee and Nicholas Hoult as the Beast. They join previously cast James McAvoy as Professor X and Michael Fassbenderas Magneto.  Other rumored casting includes Kick-Ass‘ Aaron Johnson coming onboard as X-Men’s team leader Cyclops, and Alice Eve as Emma Frost.  Johnson could make a pretty awesome Cyclops, but Eve is way too old to portray a teenage Emma Frost.
  • James Cameron’s Avatar is returning to 3D theaters on August 27 with 8 additional minutes of footage. The special edition includes some new creatures and action scenes. Will you be seeing the flick again?
  • Hollywood the Game has been surging with creativity with more than 4 virtual films being released a week in the Hollywood simulation game and writing community.  Read, review, and make contacts by visiting the site and signing up for an account!

Hey everyone, welcome to a new edition of The Pit. What is happening in the world of entertainment?

  • Our friends over at 141tv have released a promo video for an upcoming interactive webseries, Ask Joe Guido.  You can check it out here. “Hey… How you doin’?”
  • Scream 4 has started shooting!!! It is really happening, they can’t stop now! Soooo excited. Nancy O’Dell has posted the first picture of Sidney (11 years later) on her twitter. That is not where I thought we’d get our first image from the new flick.
  • Hollywood the Game has entered the final week of it’s simulated Cable TV Session. Check out all of the virtual shows across the three networks. You can read and review them for virtual money!
  • Judd Apatow is teaming up with Pee-Wee Herman for a new movie adventure? That is all sorts of awesome and surprising.
  • The newest Twilight flick Eclipse has broken records with a take of $30 million from midnight showings. I just threw up a little bit in my mouth.
  • Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I has a trailer! Excited? How does it look? Leave a comment and let us know!
