The Vampire Diaries The Complete Sixth Season
The Vampire Diaries continues its sixth season with more delicious drama to sink your teeth into. In season five, after a passionate summer with Damon, Elena headed to Whitmore College with Caroline, not knowing Bonnie sacrificed her life for Jeremy’s. Meanwhile, Stefan and Caroline’s friendship deepened as they stood up to the Travelers, a nomadic witch tribe driven to strip Mystic Falls of magic and cast out its supernatural residents. In the shocking season finale, Damon, fearing he would lose his loved ones on the crumbling Other Side, made a huge sacrifice to bring them all back — with catastrophic and heartbreaking results. Season six follows the characters’ journey back to each other as they explore the duality of good versus evil inside themselves. Matt Davis reprises his role as Alaric Saltzman, recently returned from The Other Side. Plus, the season will make you misty-eyed as the departure of a major character will turn lives upside down and leave us asking what happened to Mystic Falls.

The Originals The Complete Second Season
As Original vampire-werewolf hybrid Klaus Mikaelson returned to the vibrant, supernaturally charged city of New Orleans in season one, he was stunned to learn — along with his siblings Elijah and Rebekah — that Hayley, a werewolf, was pregnant with his child, and his vampire protégé, Marcel, whom the Original siblings had thought long dead, was ruling the French Quarter. Soon, a bloody war escalated between vampires and witches — the stakes raised by powerful teenage witch Davina and by Klaus’s bond with Cami, a student with a painful past — and a ruthless pack of wolves seized the opportunity to stage a violent coup. Now, in season two, a new status quo must be adjusted to, as the newly empowered werewolves control the city. Klaus struggles with weaknesses as Elijah desperately tries to save Hayley — now a hybrid — from a vicious spiral of self-destruction. Meanwhile, with the re-emergence of several Mikaelsons, “family is power” takes on new meaning.

90210 on The CWThe CW Network has announced a few “early” pick-ups (not that early, dozens of shows have already been renewed over on the other networks). Included in the mix are guilty pleasures 90210 (the pic to the left) and Gossip Girl, the long running cult series Supernatural, the romantic undead hit The Vampire Diaries, and the CW’s top (really? WTF) series, America’s Next Top Model.

Missing from the list is the young Superman series Smallville, which after being taken from the timeslot it made successful for years and placed into the Friday sci-fi kill slot, has actually lifted the CW to its best Friday numbers in years.  I hope the show continues for another year and gives Clark and the gang a proper send off. Also missing from early renewal is the CW revival of Melrose Place.  I actually liked the first couple of episodes, but haven’t seen an ep in a while. The same can be said for most shows I casually watch though.  I hope they give the series another season to find its barrings.  The cast is likable and with some fresh stories I can see it growing into a decent show.

What do you think? Are Smallville and Melrose Place going to make the cut for next year? What other CW shows do you watch?

It is that time again, sit back, relax and enjoy your weekly Pit!

  • The 2009 San Diego Comic-Con’s Wednesday Preview night will include sneak peek screenings of the pilots for Human Target, V, and The Vampire Diaries. While The Vampire Diaries looks like it is taking all of the horrible things about Twilight and making it into a TV series, the comic adaptation Human Target and the remake of the alien invasion V actually look really interesting.
  • Fox has hired Kyle Ward to pen a script for Hitman 2, a sequel to the studio’s abomination that they tried to pass off as an adaptation of the hit game. Variety describes the plot of the sequel as a time that “catches title character, Agent 47, at a low point.” Funny enough, the first Hitman movie was the title character’s low point!
  • With the casting of Ryan Reynolds as Green Lantern, Warner Brothers and DC Comics better get their act together with their other superhero properties. The Marc Guggenheim penned GL script features a cameo by Clark Kent. Will the WB use this to tie together a movie DC Universe? Will they continue forward with Brandon Routh as Clark Kent? Tom Welling? Or start fresh again.  Would it be very jarring to cast a new Clark Kent who we don’t know before a new Superman film has even had any development? For once, I really wish the WB and DC could take a page from Marvel Studio’s book .
  • While on the subject of Marvel, their comic side has posted a new free issue online, Captain America Reborn: Prelude. As the title says, it is a prelude to their currently running Captain America Reborn limited series which showcases the return of the classic Captian, Steve Rogers.  Check it out at Marvel’s website.
  • I guess I’m going to keep this week’s Pit completely geektaskic. TheWB.com has posted all 13 episodes of the Blade TV spin-off. I missed it in its original run, so I’m excited to be able to watch it whenever I want online, for free. With all this recent talk about a possible Blade movie prequel and Ryan Reynolds getting another comic book role, I’ve been back in the mood for the vampire hunter.
  • Previewing this week’s comic preview… BOOM! Studios is releasing the first issue of Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, a straight book to comic adaptation of the classic Philip K. Dick novel that inspired Blade Runner. The series will run for 24 issues.
