Next week, Marvel Now!’s all new take on the merc with the mouth continues in Deadpool #3 from the comedy writing team of Gerry Duggan and Brian Posehn along with one of comic’s best artists Tony Moore, with a cover by Moore and a variant by Geoff Darrow. Deadpool’s epic battle with zombie presidents continues as he faces off with Richard Nixon (where is David Frost when you need him!?). Guest starring Doctor Strange… you know, they had me with zombie Nixon, but I always enjoy an appearance by the good doctor. I love how Marvel Now! is pulling heroes from all around the Marvel Universe together. It really feels like a much tighter universe since the end of “Avengers vs. X-Men” and I hope this continues and is not a passing phase.

Last week Marvel Now! kicked off with a bang with the release of Uncanny Avengers #1. In the aftermath of Avengers vs X-Men, the world has changed and the mutant gene has been reactivated. With that a new team of Avengers formed with a mix of classic Avengers and new mutant members like Rogue and Havok. In addition to the new series, Marvel is relaunching most of their lineup with new number 1s with fresh creative teams in the mix.

The merc with the mouth, Deadpool, is one of the series that will be getting a new number one. While he did not beat Deathstroke in our recent head to head match up [SEE: Deathstroke vs Deadpool, Who Would Win?], the assassin is ready to take on giant monsters (see above) and dead presidents in his new title, written by the comedy team of Gerry Duggan, a writer of Attack of the Show!, and comedian/actor Brian Posehn, who appeared in Fox’s horrible Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. The art in the series is by Toy Moore, who I think has one of the cleanest and coolest styles. He drew the first few issues of The Walking Dead, which blow away most other titles and helped the book stand out.

DEADPOOL #1
Official Issue Description: Marvel is pleased to present your first look at Deadpool #1, kicking off the all-new ongoing series from the blockbuster creative team of writers & comedians Brian Posehn (The Sara Silverman Program), Gerry Duggan (Attack of the Show!, Infinite Horizon) and superstar artist Tony Moore (The Walking Dead)! Washington, D.C. is in turmoil when dead former U.S. Presidents – from George Washington to Gerald Ford – are resurrected and the heroes of the Marvel Universe can’t be the ones to stop them! There’s only one other person that has the reputation, skills, and plausible deniability to handle these com-monsters in chief…NOW! is the time for Deadpool! In Wade We Trust!

Deadpool #1 hits stands and the digital marketplace in three weeks on November 7th. Are you excited for the new team on the book? Ready for the mix of action, comedy, and gore?

August really can be called “Deadpool Month” as this week brings us two new issues; the 59th issue of the merc with a mouth’s ongoing self named title, Deadpool, and the third issue of his mini series, Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe. Writer Daniel Way and artist Salva Espin keep bringing the laughs and continue “Blacklisted” with another one of Deadpool’s “rogues” villains making a return. The awesome cover (above left) is by Dave Johnson. Deadpool Kills is a fun What If? style of mini-series (except that it is much more violent and gory than those tales usually were). It comes to us from writer Cullen Bunn, artist Dalibor Talajic and cover artist Kaare Andrews.

Deadpool #59 (above left)
Part two of “Blacklisted!” The return of classic Deadpool Detractor, BLACK SWAN! Will the now-killable assassin get assassin’d?

Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe #3 (above right)
What if everything you thought was funny about Deadpool…was actually just disturbing? What if he decided to kill everyone and everything that makes up the Marvel Universe? What if he actually pulled it off? Would that be FUN for you? The Merc with a Mouth takes a turn for the twisted in a weekly horror comic like no other…

Both issues hit stands on August 15th, 2012. In other Deadpool news, his ongoing title will be getting a reboot and restarting with a new #1 come November as part of Marvel NOW! (SEE: Marvel Now! Poster & Press Release). Taking him on new adventures will be the comedian team of Brian Posehn and Gerry Duggan with art by Tony Moore. Marvel has hinted that the new series will feature S.H.I.E.L.D. and Zombie Presidents. Only in Deadpool
