The summer is quickly coming to a close and you know what that means… TV IS ALMOST BACK! It is time to dust off the remote control and set the DVR to record all of your favorites. As we get closer and closer to the fall season, info is starting to spill out. Lets tale a look at some of the recent news.

Tina Majorino is jumping from her most recent gig on True Blood to another bloody show with a high body count, Grey’s Anatomy. You might remember Majorino from Napoleon Dynamite, Veronica Mars, and Big Love. She joins already announced guest stars including Friday Night Lights‘ “Smash” Gaius Charles and Californication‘s Camilla Luddington (who was also on True Blood). The show has a little more room to play around with new characters after cast regulars Chyler Leigh (Lexie) and Kim Raver (Teddy) left at the end of last season and Eric Dane has announced that he will be leaving after a few episodes into the new season. Last season was the best since the second season. The show really found a good stride and worked hard to make characters likeable again, and it showed and worked. I was genuinely surprised by the season finale and Lexie’s fate. I hope that the show can continue to surprise me next season.

Mad Man‘s awesome “partner” John Slattery will be guest starring on Netflix’s Arrested Development revival. This keeps with the tradition of Arrested Development having the best casting department in the business.  Slattery is a joy to watch and I hope that he is in as many episodes of the 10 episode season as possible. With the forth season of the cult comedy beginning production, expect a lot more news in coming weeks.

Keeping up with this week’s theme of casting news, Martin Sheen joined his son Charlie “#Winning” Sheen’s FX series Anger Management as… you guessed it, his father. The character first appeared yesterday and is described as “hyper-critical and a bully”. The series is still working off its initial order and is waiting for FX to decide to put in a massive 90 episode back order. If they go through with it, Martin Sheen will be staying along for the ride. What can we do to get Emilio on the show also? Throw in another 90 episodes? The elder Sheen was last seen in The Amazing Spider-Man as the ill-fated Uncle Ben.

Don’t forget with all the great TV that is coming up soon and all of the sitting and junk fooding out that you’ll be doing that is is important to stay in shape- and team sportswear will help you look good while doing it.

TV Flipped Column with PJ Flip

Just wanted to make a quick article with some of the awesome TV casting news from the past week. More news soon…

  • Linda Hamilton, aka Sarah Connor, has been cast as Chuck’s mother on Chuck.
  • James Marsters will return as Braniac on the 200th episode of Smallville. Also on Smallville, Clark Kent will be getting a new partner at the Daily Planet, Cat Grant.
  • Joe Manganiello, werewolf Alcide, has been promoted to be a series regular on True Blood.
  • Alfred Molina has joined the cast of Law & Order: Los Angeles as Deputy DA Morales. Skeet Ulrich is the only other major character to be cast on the show.
  • SyFy shows Eureka and Warehouse 13 to have two cross over shows later this season. Claudia, Allison Scagliotti, will appear in an episode of Eureka and Fargo, Neil Grayston, will appear in an episode of Warehouse 13.

I’m sure that Marvel Comics is going to release a ton of these types of teaser posters for the upcoming X-Men #1 and the universe wide vampire crossover, but this one is really cool. I love the noir yet romantic style of it, and Emma Frost works perfectly as a vampire.

X-Men, Poster

When I first read the preview for X-Men #1 I was annoyed. It reads: “MUTANTS VERSUS VAMPIRES PART 1 – When a suicide bomber strikes in downtown San Francisco, it gets the immediate attention of the X-Men. But this is not your garden variety terrorist – and he’s not acting alone. Vampires from around the globe are descending en masse on the City by the Bay, staking a brutal claim for the patch of land the X-Men call their home. What is their agenda? Who is their mysterious leader? The X-Men are about to find out, as they brace themselves for a war of the species that will wrack the Marvel Universe.”

If there is only thing that superheroes (and the X-Men) don’t mix well with, it is vampires. And now, we have the beginning of a large vampire crossover likely inspired by the success of Twilight and True Blood, which makes it even more disturbing.  If you want to do vampires right, you have to make them a threat. You can’t have people turned into vampires and than cured, you have to make turning them count. You’ll have to up their power level to even be able to stand toe to toe with people like Wolverine and Colossus.  In a world where mutants can go out in the day and destroy cities in the blink of an eye, how are vampires scary?

“Second Coming” has gone a long way to make the X-Men enjoyable again. I just really hope that it isn’t wasted by pitting mutants vs vampires.

The third season of the vampire drama True Blood is getting closer, and with it approaching we get another new teaser poster for the series.

trueblood-season-3

I’ve loved the style of posters HBO has produced for this series from the beginning, and this one just adds to the awesomeness. I’m also looking forward to the new season which begins in a little over two months.

Posting this week’s edition of The Pit a little early because we’ll be taking the weekend off. Come back on Monday for the latest film, TV, comic, and video game news!

  • HBO has renewed True Blood, Entourage, and  Hung for new seasons! I love both True Blood and Entourage and will keep watching for as long as HBO makes them.  True Blood takes the vampire genre much further than I’d ever expect it to go on TV, and I can’t wait to see what happens next. Entourage is just pure fun. And while I have not watched Hung yet, I’ve heard a lot of good things about it.
  • Miss Amy Poehler on “Weekend Update”? Than you’ll love this news, the SNL Alum and Parks and Recreation star will be returning to the desk for the first two episodes of Saturday Night Live: Weekend Update Thursday.  It is great that she isn’t straying too far from SNL, and she is the perfect co-anchor for Seth Meyers.
  • Okay, this is my last bit of TV news, I promise.  FX Network has signed Donal Logue for Shawn Ryan (The Shield)’s new series Terriers.  Logue is the perfect fit Hank, an ex-cop with maturity issues who partners with his best friend to open a P.I. business. Together they try to solve crimes while avoiding danger and responsibility.
  • Well, I did not see this coming, but I’m in no way against it! Variety is reporting that Ridley Scott will now be directing Fox’s Alien prequel. Earlier reports stated that Scott wanted Carl Erik Rinsch, a music video director, to helm the project but Fox wanted him to do it. Could it be that Fox finally did something that the fans agree with?
  • Week 4 of Superman from Wednesday Comics has been posted by USA Today.
  • Glenn McQuid’s I Sell the Dead is being adapted into a comic from Image. The first issue hits stands on October 7th. In case you missed the film, you can check out the trailer here. Dead is a period horror flick that revolves around two grave robbers.

What should my hollywood dream give away in a contest next

Summer is officially beginning and we are preping our first July contest and we’d like to hear from you guys! Please post a comment below with which item you’d like us to give away in our next contest. Thanks!

  • “Dead Until Dark” by Charlaine Harris. This novel is the first in the Sookie Stackhouse series that the hit HBO series True Blood is based on. If you are unfamilar with the series, it is based around a small town in Louisiana and how it is effected after vampires “come out of the coffin” and into the public eye after a synthetic blood is developed.
  • Face / Off on Blu-Ray.  My favorite John Woo film stars John Travolta as an FBI agent who must do the unthinkable to stop an evil terrorist’s plan, he must become him.  The disc contains a bunch of special features that you’ll never watch including commentaries by the director/writers, deleted scenes, an alternate ending, the trailer and more.
  • Buffy the Vampire Slayer season one DVD. The classic vampire series by Joss Whedon focuses on the slayer (Sarah Michelle Gellar), one girl in all the world that is chosen to fight vampires and other demons.
  • “Intensity” by Dean Koontz. In this #1 New York Times bestseller, a “young woman staying as a guest in a Napa Valley farmhouse becomes trapped in a fight for survival with a self-proclaimed homicidal adventurer, and races to warn his next intended victim. Unrelentingly terrifying, this book lives up to its name.”
  • Bee Movie on Blu-Ray. This charming animated film is from the mind of Jerry Seinfeld and co-stars the voice of Renee Zellweger. The disc contains a bunch of features including storyboards, triva, commentaries, deleted scenes, and an alternate ending.

And last but not least…

  • Chicken Run on DVD. This stop motion animation from the creators of Wallace & Gromit stars the voices of Mel Gibson and Timothy Spall. Included in the special features is a “read-along” of the script.

So, which of these items would you like to see us give away? Don’t forget to vote in the comment section of this article!

This teaser poster for the second season of HBO’s True Blood is a perfect way to start the week. It is striking, inventive and gets me juiced for new episodes.
