Joel McHale and Chevy Chase in Community

I am honestly shocked and a little lost for words- in a good way. With all of the possible companies that could have swooped in to save Community, including Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, or even a traditional cable channel like USA or TNT, I never in a middle years thought that it would be Yahoo to save the day. That is right, the search engine and email website, the one that seems like it has been dying for the past decade showed up when all hope had been lost and will bring us one step closer to #SixSeasonsAndAMovie.

Not much is known about the deal. We do know that the cast and creator Dan Harmon will return for 13 new episodes that will air exclusively on Yahoo Screen in the fall. Screen is the new streaming offshoot of Yahoo that works similar to Hulu, with shows airing online with commercial breaks. Yahoo Screen had previously announced two new original programs, Other Space from Paul Feig and Sin City Saints from Bryan Gordon and Mike Tollin. Both of these shows will have 8 episode seasons, with all of the episodes being released on the same day (the same model that Netflix uses). It is unknown if they will do the same for the new season of Community.

Excited that Community is returning? What are you hoping for in the new season? With the show moving online, they can pretty much do anything they want.

Clear your schedule on Sunday, May 26, because after a very very very long wait we’ll be getting new episodes of the cult comedy Arrested Development. You might want to also call in sick on Monday, as Netflix will be releasing all 15 episodes of the new season in one day. Yeah, I said 15. This is the second time that they have upped the episode count since they went into production. Hopefully this means good things- maybe we’ll get lucky enough to another season after this one? All of the regulars (pictured above) are returning along with most of the show’s famed guest stars (Liza Minnelli, Scot Baio, Henry Winkler) and a new crop of awesome guests including John Slattery, Seth Rogen, Isla Fisher, and Terry Crews to name a few.

While on the subject of television shows getting new life, how can I not mention Veronica Mars. With only six days to to go, the beloved show’s movie Kickstarter campaign has raised more than $4.6 million dollars and counting from over 70 thousand backers! The impressive campaign has broken records and I’m glad to admit that I “backed” the film also. It is not often that fans are able to directly impact the future of a canceled television show, and while I didn’t watch the show while it was on (always loved the idea but never had the time), I’m glad that I could help bring it back to life. The series was created by Rob Thomas and starred Kristen Bell, Percy Daggs III, Jason Dohring, Francis Capra, Enrico Colantoni, and Ryan Hansen.

Girl Meets World has cast the role of Riley, Corey and Topanga’s daughter, with Rowan Blanchard.  Sabrina Carpenter has been also cast as Riley’s best friend Maya. Girl Meets World is still looking for someone to play Elliott, Cory and Topanga’s son. The casting call says “His parents worry that he has inherited [his uncle’s] ‘Eric Matthews Algernon’ gene and will lose intelligence as time goes by.” Blanchard co-starred in Spy Kids: All the Time in the World in 4D, while Carpenter will appear in The Goodwin Games opposite Scott Foley and Becki Newton. What about Shawn, Eric, Feeny and the other cast members of the original? Will anyone else return for the new series? Show creator Michael Jacobs has stated “Whoever wants to be part of this show will be and whoever wants to move on will,” leaving the door open for anyone and everyone to come back in some capacity in the future.

Will Cobie Smulders reprise her role as Maria Hill in the new S.H.E.I.L.D. TV series? How I Met Your Mother was picked up for a ninth season, but in an interview with iamrogue.com Smulders said; “The commitments to [How I Met Your Mother] don’t affect it” and “I can’t really say, but there are definite talks about it.” Smulders will play Maria Hill again in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, the sequel to 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger. The S.H.E.I.L.D. pilot is currently being filmed with The Avengers director Joss Whedon behind the camera and fan favorite Clark Gregg reprising the role of Phil Coulson to headline the new series. Whedon wrote the pilot along with Maurissa Tancharoen and Jed Whedon, his writing partners on Dollhouse and Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog.

Christmas has come early! Sure, we have known for a while that Netflix swooped in (after a very long wait for fans who never gave up on the show) and revived Arrested Development for a 10 episode forth season. But now we have word that the season will be expanding by as many as five additional episodes.

Deadline Hollywood broke the news, saying that production has paused as writer/creator Mitch Hurwitz is working on the adapting the original season idea for the additional episodes. Originally, the plan was that each episode would focus on a different member of the Bluth family to catch audiences up with them in time for a big screen version of the show. By the time the series began shooting word was leaked that Hurwitz abandoned the idea of the episodes focusing on single characters and that the new season would match the format of the original series.

All of the episodes are expected to be released in the same day come Spring. All of the main players are back, including Jason Bateman, Portia de Rossi, David Cross, Will Arnett, Alia Shawkat, Tony Hale, Jeffrey Tambor, Jessica Walter, Michael Cera, and Ron Howard as the Narrator.  Announced guest stars include Mad Men’s John Slattery, along with other newcomers to the series Isla Fisher and Terry Crews, and returning guest stars Mae Whitman, Scott Baio, Henry Winkler, Judy Greer, and Liza Minnelli.

Do you have Netflix and are excited for the new season of Arrested Development? Will you be getting Netflix just for the new season?

Back in 2009 we talked about Steven Spielberg and DreamWorks TV striking a deal to bring Stephen King’s Under the Dome to television, and after three years the project is finally happening! Out is DreamWorks TV and in is Spielberg’s Amblin Television along with CBS Television Studios and producers Neal Baer, Stephen King, Justin Falvey, Darryl Frank, Stacey Snider and Brian K. Vaughan. The show is skipping the pilot stage and going straight to series with a 13-episode pickup slated to premiere in summer 2013.Under the Dome focuses on a small New England town that is cut off fromt he rest of the world by an invisible force field that causes ecological effects and a fight for control within the isolated population. It is perfectly suited for being adapted for television.

From out of the blue it looks like the potential DC Comic Booster Gold television series is still a possibility thanks to SyFy channel and Arrow showrunner Andrew Kreisberg, who is heading up the potential Gold series. IGN asked Kreisberg for an update on the project and he told them; “Booster Gold is going in in the next couple weeks before Christmas. We’ll see what happens from there. It’s such a different project even though they’re both DC Comics properties. Booster is much more candy and popcorn, being about time travel and changing the future and being a superhero who can fly. But they’re both super-fun projects. As a lifelong DC Comics fan, I am beyond blessed to be working on these projects with all these amazing characters.” There is so much potential for the series. Timecop meets superheroes with a lighthearted/comedic underlining. If they are allowed to use other DC characters throughout time it would be even better. Have Booster Gold travel to the golden and silver ages of the DC Comics universe and showcase different heroes and villains that are well known. I just hope that SyFy doesn’t hold it back and make the series take place in present day.

Wow. We have come a long way since 1998’s Nick Fury: Agent of SHEILD that featured David Hasselhoff in the starring role and was written by Batman Begins writer David S. Goyer. While I do admit that Hasselhoff was the spitting image of Fury, the movie was a joke like most of the efforts to adapt Marvel characters (remember Captain America‘s helmet or Roger Corman’s take on Marvel’s first family, the Fantastic Four).

Now enter Marvel Studio’s shared movie universe, which will be expanding onto the small screen and could provide us with as many as 20 new hours a year of content. ABC and Marvel have announced that they are going into production on a SHIELD pilot to be written and (possibily) directed by Joss Whedon, who not only helmed the big screen Avengers but created cult television shows Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Dollhouse, and Firefly. Joining Whedon on the new Marvel series will be usual contributors Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tanchareon, who both wrote for Dr. Horrible and Dollhouse and helped shape both of those properties.

At this time it is unknown whether we’ll see familiar faces such as Sam Jackson’s Nick Fury or Cobie Smulders’ Agent Maria Hill, or any of the big guns like Ironman, Hulk, Thor, etc. Depending on the time period of the show, there is always the chance to see Clark Gregg as Agent Phil Coulson again. I think it is a given that we’ll see everyone from the Marvel universe in some capacity (even archive footage) at one point or another. The most exciting thing about the series is that they’ll be able to present so many more characters; including heroes, villains, and smaller supporting characters. What would bring in the ratings more than an episode that introduces Doctor Strange or Black Panther? Here is hoping that they will go all out- with Whedon directing the pilot and developing the series, they are taking all of the right steps. I can’t wait to hear more about SHIELD.

The summer is quickly coming to a close and you know what that means… TV IS ALMOST BACK! It is time to dust off the remote control and set the DVR to record all of your favorites. As we get closer and closer to the fall season, info is starting to spill out. Lets tale a look at some of the recent news.

Tina Majorino is jumping from her most recent gig on True Blood to another bloody show with a high body count, Grey’s Anatomy. You might remember Majorino from Napoleon Dynamite, Veronica Mars, and Big Love. She joins already announced guest stars including Friday Night Lights‘ “Smash” Gaius Charles and Californication‘s Camilla Luddington (who was also on True Blood). The show has a little more room to play around with new characters after cast regulars Chyler Leigh (Lexie) and Kim Raver (Teddy) left at the end of last season and Eric Dane has announced that he will be leaving after a few episodes into the new season. Last season was the best since the second season. The show really found a good stride and worked hard to make characters likeable again, and it showed and worked. I was genuinely surprised by the season finale and Lexie’s fate. I hope that the show can continue to surprise me next season.

Mad Man‘s awesome “partner” John Slattery will be guest starring on Netflix’s Arrested Development revival. This keeps with the tradition of Arrested Development having the best casting department in the business.  Slattery is a joy to watch and I hope that he is in as many episodes of the 10 episode season as possible. With the forth season of the cult comedy beginning production, expect a lot more news in coming weeks.

Keeping up with this week’s theme of casting news, Martin Sheen joined his son Charlie “#Winning” Sheen’s FX series Anger Management as… you guessed it, his father. The character first appeared yesterday and is described as “hyper-critical and a bully”. The series is still working off its initial order and is waiting for FX to decide to put in a massive 90 episode back order. If they go through with it, Martin Sheen will be staying along for the ride. What can we do to get Emilio on the show also? Throw in another 90 episodes? The elder Sheen was last seen in The Amazing Spider-Man as the ill-fated Uncle Ben.

Don’t forget with all the great TV that is coming up soon and all of the sitting and junk fooding out that you’ll be doing that is is important to stay in shape- and team sportswear will help you look good while doing it.
