Collider did a great interview with Todd Slavkin and Darren Swimmer, the two new executive producers on “Smallville”. They talk about the fresh new direction of the show, the departures of Kristen Kreuk (Lana Lang) and Michael Rosenbaum (Lex Luthor), returning guests (Martian Manhunter, Impulse, Green Arrow, Aquaman, among others) and what new faces we’ll be seeing (Zatanna? Maybe). You can read the interview here.

After “Firefly” was wrongfully canceled, and “Driver” never made it to the finish line, b-action hero Nathan Fillion is going to attempt to be in another television series.

Variety reports that ABC Studios has picked up Fillion’s pilot, “Castle”, to go to series for midseason.

The show “stars Fillion as a novelist who helps the NYPD solve homicide cases. Ruben Santiago-Hudson, Susan Sullivan and Stana Katic also star in the comedic procedural from ABC Studios. Andrew Marlowe wrote the pilot and exec produces with Armyan Bernstein, Rob Bowman and Laurie Zaks.”

“Castle” joins four other shows that ABC put an order out for, including; “The Unusuals” starring Amber Tamblyn, and Adam Goldberg, “Cupid” from Rob Thomas and starring Bobby Cannavale, “Single With Parents” starring Alyssa Milano, Annie Potts, and Beau Bridges, and “Better Off Ted” with Jay Harrington and Portia de Rossi.

The Associated Press is reporting that “American Idol” is adding a fourth judge to its eighth season.  Who will be joining Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul, and Randy Jackson? That honor goes to Kara DioGuardi, a song writer who has penned tunes for Christina Aguilera, Kelly Clarkson, Gwen Stefani, Celine Dion, Faith Hill, and Carrie Underwood, among many others.

Mike Darnell, the president of alternative programming at Fox, commented that this move adds “a lot more `girl power’ on the show,” and Simon Fuller, the show’s executive producer/creator adds that DioGuardi “is a smart, sassy lady, and one of America’s most successful songwriters. We know she will bring a new level of energy and excitement to the show.”

Personally, I’m not so sure about this move. While it will add a fresh element to the show, I think it was also slow it down. Now we’ll have to wait trough another judge’s opinions before getting to the actual heart of the show, the singing.

I never thought that this past year’s (WGA) writer’s strike would have had positive repercussions, but after seeing this alternate ending to the second season of Heroes, I’m glad the writers went on strike. You see, due to the strike, the creative forces behind Heroes scrapped the current storyline they were developing and went into a completely different (and much better IMO) direction; which will lead into season 3 “Villains”.

This is a vision of what could have happened (a future which has been diverted)…
