Midnight Chronicles

Today we’re going to spotlight a movie from one of the hardest sub-genres to tackle; independent fantasy films. Midnight Chronicles from director Christian T. Petersen and Fantasy Flight Games has the uphill battle of establishing a whole world, its rules, and setting the players in place on a low budget.

What is Midnight Chronicles about? It has been a hundred years since the Shadow fell… The dark god Izrador reigns victorious. After three ages of scheming and war, Izrador has finally defeated the heroes and armies of the free races. Now the dark god rules the world of Aryth with an iron fist. Enslaved under the Shadow, the race of men leads an oppressed existence, and the Elves and Dwarves have retreated to distant forests and mountains, where their desperate resistance is slowly succumbing to the unyielding might of the Shadow. It is a time of overwhelming darkness. The fickle flame of hope is almost extinguished, its dying light guarded only by those few heroes who still dare to dream of freedom.

Good vs evil. Heroes vs villains. Low budget production values and charm? Yeah, I’m down. You can check out Midnight Chronicles online for free on Snag Films, it is also on Amazon Video (free with Amazon Prime membership).

You can also check out these other indie flicks…

Suitable for Murder

We focus a lot on free horror movies (because good or bad, they are always fun), but today we thought it would be nice to throw in a crime thriller/indie noir into the mix. From Indie Rights Movies we have Suitable for Murder, from director Fred P. Watkins (Revenge Bites, Bikini Detectives) and starring Ali Faulkner, Jackson Bostwick, Morgana Shaw, and Nate Rubin.

Description (spoilers): Joe Mondragon, a veteran cop who gets things done, forms an unlikely partnership with Samantha Baines. She is attached to Police Intelligence Division and feels more comfortable handling a computer than a gun. Samantha’s computer skills are needed to help hack into and track two serial killers who get their victims from Internet Chat Rooms. The plan goes horribly wrong and in a fire fight between Samantha and Joe, and the two killers, Joe is killed when Samantha is unable to make herself fire her weapon at the two serial killers. Samantha feels guilty and responsible. With the help of her new friend Mimi, and the Head of Homicide, Samantha reinvents herself and avenges Joe after a relentless chase of the killers.

You can check out Suitable for Murder free on YouTube and Snag Films.

Zombie Pirates

Hey everyone, it has been a while but we’re back spotlighting some fun free movies that you can find online. Today’s pick is Captain Z and the Leviathan of Terror from indie VOD distributor Indie Rights Movies.

The movie from 2014 is a horror comedy from director Steve Rudzinski, who also helmed indie horror flicks Red Christmas and Everyone Must Die! Captain Z does not take itself serious with a tone that has been compared to one of my favorite flicks, Army of Darkness. Low budget charm mixed with horror and comedy? You have my attention.

Official Description: In 1714 Captain Zachariah Zicari stops a group of possessed townsfolk from using a powerful amulet that would have released the ultimate evil, the Leviathan. Fast forward to 2014 and the amulet is again in the wrong hands. Can Captain Z save the earth? (Source: IMDB)

Throw some popcorn on and click here to watch Captain Z and the Leviathan of Terror for free! The movie stars  Zoltan Zilai, Madison Siple, Steve Rudzinski, and Aleen Isley.

Zombie Beach

Poster of Zombie BeachOkay, so I’m totally back on a horror kick. Expect me to spotlight a lot more free movies like Bread Crumbs, Dragon Wasps, and Jack Frost 2. This past week I stumbled on this 2010 horror comedy flick from Indie Rights, Zombie Beach.

The movie was directed and stars Mukesh Asopa, who also helmed The Taste of Relation and Chamers Gate, the first a mystery drama and the second a crime flick. It co-stars Katherine Stefanski, Kamal Nandi, Kevin Tracy, Rick Cordeiro, Kristi Woods, and Wade Gamble. Zombie Beach has a bit of a throwback 70s vibe to it.

Description: Centuries ago, rather than have a full out war of the revelation, a deal was struck between the heroes of the good and the evil. The beach you visited was sanctioned to the evil. There, the undead could walk like living beings among us. (via IMDB)

You can watch Zombie Beach for free here! Leave a comment with your thoughts on the flick! And have you found any awesome horror movies that are available to watch online for free? Share them in our comments!

Bread CrumbsNothing is better than a slasher twist on a fairy tale, even more so when you add porn stars, a cabin in the woods, creepy children, and over the top gory fun! That is exactly what I hope that Bread Crumbs has. Either way it is available to watch online for free via Snag Films (my recent one stop go to for watching movies online!).

Official Description: We all live in a house of candy in this Hansel and Gretel-inspired slasher fairy tale. Once upon a time, aging porn star Angie Hart reluctantly agreed to make one final film at an enchanting old cabin deep in a forest.

While on location, the cast and crew encounter Henry and Patti—two strange siblings who seem to live in the woods. A vicious attack during an evening shoot sends Angie and the rest of the crew into a frightened frenzy. They lock themselves into the secluded cabin, trapped by an unseen assailant. Could these two mysterious children somehow be responsible?

And when handsome leading man Billy takes Patti hostage to gain leverage against the killer, it proves to be the ultimate mistake…. Eat the candy, if you dare!

Bread Crumbs was directed by Mike Nichols, the producer of His Name Was Jason: 30 Years of Friday the 13th, and stars Marianne Hagan (Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers), Steve Carey, Dan Shaked, Jim J Barnes, Zoe Sloane, and Shira Weitz. Click here to watch the movie for free!

War FlowersFrom the “Stars You Know, Movies You Don’t” category comes War Flowers, starring Christina Ricci in a historical war drama/romance. This flick is very different than the usual horror and sic-fi films that I watch online for free. It is great to see such a large variety of genres available via Snag Films.

Official Description: In this inspired story of tragedy, love and loss, WAR FLOWERS stars Christina Ricci, Tom Berenger, Jason Gedrick and Bren Foster. It’s North Carolina in 1863, and the Civil War is raging. Young mother Sarabeth Ellis (Ricci) and her precocious seven-year-old daughter Melody are struggling to survive the war on their farm. With the youngest lost to scarlet fever and her Confederate soldier husband away fighting the war, Sarabeth’s spirit is severely tested.

When a battle crosses family land and a Union soldier (Gedrick) is left wounded, she can’t abandon him to die—and an unlikely bond is forged between them in the midst of despair. As the war winds down, so does her hope for her husband’s safe return. Hungry and broken, they have endured as much as humanly possible. Then the promise of a new life—and new love—appears on the horizon.

Joining Ricci in the war drama are Jason Gedrick, Tom Berenger, Gabrielle Popa, and Bren Foster. The movie was written and directed by  Serge Rodnunsky and released in 2012.  Click here to watch the movie for free!
