High Maintenance - Web Series

Sure, High Maintenance is not a big budget series, like House of Cards, or a revival of an awesome show that was canceled too soon, like Arrested Development, but I give Vimeo big props for jumping into the original content fray.  For those of you unfamiliar with Vimeo, it is a site just like YouTube where users can upload videos and make them available to the world (or keep them private). It is widely used by media professionals and filmmakers, who want to be able to showcase their work and reels, without the baggage that YouTube comes with.

High Maintenance was created in 2013 the husband and wife team of Ben Sinclair and Katja Blichfeld, and produced by Janky Clown Productions. The series has aired 13 episodes (which are still available to watch for free on Vimeo). The series focuses on a “nameless cannabis delivery guy delivers his much-needed medication to stressed-out New Yorkers.” Vimeo has given the greenlight to 6 new episodes that will be available exclusively on Vimeo On Demand. Unlike Netflix and Amazon, which offer a single price for all of their content, Vimeo On Demand will allow viewers to just pay for the particular episodes that they want to watch. Actual pricing has not been revealed yet, but it will be tricky to compete with the Netflix and Amazon models.

Have you watched High Maintenance? Excited to get a new season? Are you willing to pay to watch a web series?
