At My Hollywood Dream we get asked to take a look at a lot of different types of websites, from websites for movies and web series, to entertainment sites, fashion and design, news, and even stuff like T-Shirt designers and gaming centric websites. Today I got a chance to take a look at OkayBlog.net (aka Free Blog Hosting @ Thoughts.com), a website that can be very useful to independent movie makers.

The website lets anyone that is interested come to them and easily create a free blog that Okay Blog hosts along with a short and easy to remember domain name. All of the blogs are powered by WordPress blogging software (this is the same software that keeps My Hollywood Dream running). First off, I went through the steps to creating a blog, which only took moments. The website is very efficient and lets you get right down to business. Before I get a head of myself, lets take a look at the website’s front page:

The design is very simple, with a blue theme along with blue links. The main box at the top of the page lets you sign up for your new blog, and under it is a mix of recent posts by people who have created WordPress blogs on OkayBlog.net. On the right side column is a search bar, under it are links for different sections of the website, including “Login”, “Create a new blog”, “Free blog directory”, “Recent Posts”, and “Contact”. Under those links are links for Site News, Updated Blogs, Most Popular Blogs.

All in all the site layout is very simple but effective. It lets you sign up directly for a new blog, while it also promotes blogs that are hosted for free on their website. I took the time to check out a few of the blogs with “Recent Blog Posts” that were featured on the front page. Two things to note… 1) all of the blogs that are linked to featured a unique design and theme, which makes me think that the website allows you to choose between multiple different looks. And 2) all of the “Recent Blog Posts” were a bit dated with the most recent being made in December of 2009. I’m not sure if the feed is just old or if there has been a bit of inactivity on the website. If you want to start a blog, this is a good place that can get you set up rather quickly. You might as well give it a shot.

Do you enjoy casino gambling? Do you love hitting the casinos and trying to win big… but do you hate having to drive or fly to Vegas? Do you hate the smoky rooms and over priced drinks? Would you prefer to gamble in the privacy of your own home?  Thankfully there are websites like OnlineCasinos.org that make it much easier to find out the best ways of hitting the casinos from your desk chair or couch.

The website is an extensive guide that reviews the best online casinos. They post casino news and have a detailed gambling blog that is updated daily.  Looking for the best places to play online casino games including slots, blackjack, roulette, and video poker? Lets take a look at this website…

The website’s front page is very clean with a blue, green, and white color scheme and very clear text and website sections. The top menu bar has links for “Home”, “Online Casino Reviews”, “Best Online Casinos”, “Casino Bonus”, “Discussion Forum”, and “Free Casino Games”. The right sidebar has links to popular pages and top pages for such things as games and software. The top of the page has a table with this website’s favorite online casinos, and under that is gaming strategy guide with blurbs on different games including poker, craps, blackjack, slots, and others. Under that is a list of the newest blog posts and news stories.

The actual blog posts and news stories are very detailed, with blog posts and news stories being between 200 and 500 words.  The archive goes as far back as October 2008, so there is a lot of info and articles to swim through if you are interested in checking them out. The “Discussion Forum” includes two sections for general casinos and two sections for poker in particular.

Blackjack Tactics is a website that is an online blackjack guide that looks at the strategy behind mastering the game and becoming a winner. Lets start with the beginning and take a look at the website’s front page.

The website is very basic and doesn’t have a modern feel to it. It feels like a website out of the 1990s. The basic layout is three columns, with the left side being links to sections of the website, the middle being the meat and content of the page and the right side is more links to information pages. One thing that the page has going for it is that it is very clean with big font that is easy to read. There isn’t as much clutter as a lot of the “online guides” have.

Lets take a closer look at the links to the left side of the page. The links are broken with three headers; “Blackjack Basics”, “Blackjack Strategy”, and “Other Blackjack Subjects”. Under “Basics” are links for pages to How to Play Blackjack, Blackjack Tips, Blackjack Odds, Blackjack Rules, and Why Play Blackjack. Under “Strategy” are links for Basic Strategy, Dealer Tells, Card Counting, Strategy Card, Strategy Charts, Shuffle Tracking, Secret Blackjack Secrets, and 12 Hard Core Blackjack Tips. Finally, “Other Subjects” have links for Related Games and Blackjack Websites.

I took a closer look at the sub-pages, here is a screenshot of the page for How to Play Blackjack:

These pages lose the right column, but keep the same basic format. There are larger ads added to the top and middle of the page, which distract from the otherwise detailed information in the beefy section of the pages. This page in particular has more than 800 words describing how to play blackjack and the basic rules of the game.

All in all, if you can look past the basic page design and somewhat annoying banner ads, Blackjack Tactics has a world of information on the game of blackjack and can be very useful for a hopeful player.

Are you looking for Cheap Web Hosting? Well, than it is a good thing that I’ll be reviewing the website 4 Cheap Web Hosting, an online guide to all of the best (and affordable) web hosting companies around the web. The guide’s description says that it has more than 200 approved web hosts and lists more than 400 cheap web hosting packages on its listing.

Lets start by taking a look at the website’s front page (click to enlarge).

The first thing that I notice is that there is so much going on that I have no idea where to look first. There are so many bright blue/underlined links, some actual content, other ads, but all sorta blend together. On the left side bar is a “Quick Search” that lets you look at web hosts by monthly price, disk space, and platform. Under the search is a menu of links that include “Home Page”, “Search Web Hosts”, “Top Rated Hosts”, “Web Hosting Tutorials”, “Hosting Glossary”, Add/Update Packages”, and “Contact Us”. Below this menu are two links for “Other Hosting Directories” (in case you can’t find what you are looking for here?). The middle space has a little information about the website sandwiched between distracting google ads. There is a link for an “advanced search” that should likely be on the left side bar instead. Under this are lists of “Cheap Web Hosting Packages” with different features. The right side bar is a list of the “Top 4Value Picks” with plan names, pricing details, host, and the host’s rating.

The real beef of the website is not the front page, but what visitors are using this guide for; information on affordable web hosts. This is what the detailed information looks like (again, you can click to enlarge):

Each review page lists basic features and cost right on top along with a “4Value” rating. Under this information are links to “View Host”, “See All Plans Available” [from said host], and “View Company Profile”. Below this is really important details on “Additional Features”, including Management, Ecommerce, Database, Scripting, Help, Misc, and Email. Under all the details is a time stamp of when this web host was originally added and when they were last updated. This is key because web hosts are always changing, adding and removing features. This lets you know how recent the review is.

Overall, even thought I hate the front page, the detail pages for the web hosts are really good and provide everything you need to know about the hosts.

It has been a few weeks since we took a deeper look at an entertainment and/or gaming website. Today I was introduced to GamblingReviews.com. First, lets take a look at their homepage (click for a larger look):

website reviews

Right when you get there, you can see that the website is geared towards fans of online casinos for usa players.

Website Reviews Also

The website is a nexus for online casino reviews and gambling news.  They strive to help USA players to find the “best” online casinos. Right when you enter the website, you’ll notice their top 10 ranked online casinos. They list the software the casinos use, the bonus involved with playing there, and a link to download it. Under this the website shares information on online casinos for players from USA that are unsure about online casinos and gambling. Personally, I know nothing about this type of gaming.

The left side of the page is broken down into three categories, each with their own links. Pictured to the right of this text. Once again, feel free to click the image for a larger look at the links bar.

The top category is for Popular Pages, and includes links to “Online Casino Reviews”, “UK & Euro Casinos”, “Poker Room”, “UK & Euro Poker”, “Gambling Forum”, and “Gambling News”. The next category lists Popular Games, included are “Baccarat”, “Bingo”, “Keno”, “Poker”, and more than 10 other games spotlighted.  The final category is the Beginners Guide, which includes links for “Do’s & Don’ts”, “eCogra”, “Microgaming”, “Playtech”, and “RTG”.

The website is very clean, with matches pages throughout the website. The Popular Games pages are mostly text and describe the games in detail. Some include links to online casinos that offer said game.  GamblingReviews.com is a good destination for beginners, just as always with casino related websites, be careful which links you click and what you download.

Continuing with My Hollywood Dream’s weekly review of entertainment websites, today I’m taking a look at Gambling PhD (www.GamblingPhD.com). The website is a guide that reviews online casinos and gambling websites along with posting daily news and betting advice for gamblers. Yeah, I am reviewing a website that reviews other websites. Until last week, I really didn’t realize just how big the online casino world was. Gambling PhD makes it a point to tell visitors to be careful with the sites they use for gambling.

Right when you open the page, you are taken here…

GamblingPHD

They jump right into things with mini reviews and links to nine different online casinos. Included in the mix are Aladdin’s Gold, VIP Slots, Go Casino, Rushmore Casino, Cherry Red Casino, and Golden Casino (to name a few). These particular reviews are short, and give visitors basic information on these casinos.

On the left side of the page is a list of links (as pictured below – click to enlarge as usual):

Links

The top link, Online Gambling PhD, takes us to a top 10 list of online casinos.  The next link, Casino Reviews, takes us to a longer list of 20 casinos with reviews along with a detailed “Introduction to Online Casino Gambling.” This introduction is great for people like me who have never had any contact with online casinos.  It has a warning of what to look out for to ensure that you are playing on a licensed website. Moving down on the links list you’ll find gambling tips, history, and a ton of general casino/gambling information.  The bottom link that reads “Daily Tips” has an archive of the website’s Tip of the Day. On this page you’ll find links to detailed info on such subjects as “Blackjack Card Counting”, “Perks”, “Keno Tips”, “Gambling Discipline”, and “Video Poker in the Nutshell” to name a few.

Overall, Gambling PhD is a good introduction to people that are unfamiliar with the world of Online Casinos. The website doesn’t have the best design, but it does supply visitors with a lot of information on the subject.

Today I took the time to check out Casinos-R-Us (www.Casinos-RUs.com), a website that is devoted to helping people make travel arrangements to casinos around the US and is a guide to gambling in Las Vegas and Atlantic City, along with other casinos and even Internet gambling.

Right when you enter the website you are greeted by this page:

Casinos R Us

This page has a welcome to the site. The first thing I noticed was just how basic the page was. A very simple website that is not trying to be overly flashy. No gawky glitter logos or annoying ads that flicker. After checking out a half dozen websites that have to do with casinos in the past week, it is refreshing to see a site that is not trying too hard.

The site gives us some basic information here, they have ties to some really impressive hotels on the Las Vegas strip, including Paris, Bally’s, Caesar’s Palace, Flamingo, Harrah’s and The Rio.  The Casino Tours that the site offers happen three times a year (in the spring and fall) and leave from three key locations; Pittsburgh & Erie, PA and Myrtle Beach, SC. If you’d like to plan a trip from another city, the site lets you customize a trip from anywhere to one of the listed hotels. Because they book rooms in bulk, they get better prices than you or I would get by walking into one of the casinos.

When you click on the links for more information on the tours leaving from Pittsburgh & Erie, PA and Myrtle Beach, SC, you are taken to this page:

Second Page Casinos R Us

This page is even more basic than the first page. A bit too basic and it doesn’t fit the style of the other page. It tells customers to call for a reservation, but doesn’t list a contact phone number on this page. It does have an email on the bottom for contacting though. Just curious, I checked out the contact page off the homepage, but it doesn’t have a phone number either, just a contact form.

Overall, the site has a lot of basic information about what Casinos-R-Us offers, but it is lacking depth and the site design is too basic for its own good. If you are looking for a Las Vegas casino tour that leaves from Pittsburgh & Erie, PA and Myrtle Beach, SC, than you might want to contact them for more information and rates.
