Well, they should call these guys the “All New, All Different” X-Treme X-Men as writer Greg Pak  and artist Stephen Segovia spin this new book directly out of Astonishing X-Men. This book joins past titles like Exiles and Mutant X in taking us on a journey out of the main Marvel universe/dimension and exploring new worlds. The cast, which includes new takes on Wolverine, Emma Frost, and Nightcrawler is inspired- finally a way for Wolverine to be on another team, yet done in a believable way. With the main Nightcrawler still six feet under, I’d jump at the chance to see any version of him still among the living. I wonder who else might join them? Blink? X-Man? Maybe in their journey they can pass by one of the alternate reality futures that Bishop is stuck in and take him a long for the ride as he looks for redemption (it will not happen, but wouldn’t it be fun?).

Official Description for X-Treme X-Men issue #1: Spinning out of the pages of ASTONISHING X-MEN! Travel the multiverse with Captain Howlett, Kid Nightcrawler, and Emmeline Frost. Which X-Men will be lost between dimensions… with no guaranteed way home?

The issue hits stands and the digital market place on Wednesday, July 25th with covers by Salvador Larroca (top left) and Julian Totino Tedesco (top right). Will you be following the new X-Treme X-Men wherever they may go?

Marvel Comics is taking a huge step into their next generation of stories with “Marvel Now!” a massive initiative similar to DC Comic’s “New 52”. Unlike DC Comics, Marvel will not be rebooting their universe with new origins and histories, they will be continuing forward with their classic universe while relaunching a ton of ongoing series with new creative teams and designs.

Below is a poster they released for the event, featured on the poster are Spider-Man, Hulk, Jean Grey, Nova, Nick Fury, Captain America,  Rocket Raccoo (Guardians of the Galaxy), Wolverine, Ironman, Cyclops, Invisible Woman, Thor, and Cable. Under the poster is Marvel’s official press release for “Marvel Now!”

The most popular characters. The most acclaimed creators. The most ambitious stories. This is Marvel NOW!.

This Fall, the Marvel Universe heads in an exciting all-new direction, as the industry’s top creators join the top super heroes, including Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, Hulk, Spider-Man, Wolverine and more, to deliver all-new ongoing series, each beginning with issue #1! Marvel NOW! is the culmination of Marvel ReEvolution, the groundbreaking new initiative to evolve the comic book experience through innovation.

It kicks off in October’s UNCANNY AVENGERS #1, from the team of Rick Remender and John Cassaday and continues with jaw-dropping new Marvel NOW! series nearly every week through February.

“There’s never been a better time to check out comics than Marvel NOW!” said Axel Alonso, Editor in Chief, Marvel Entertainment. “This isn’t a reboot or a reimagining—Marvel NOW! is all about looking forward, building on our rich history of great stories and delivering new ideas.”

In UNCANNY AVENGERS #1, the Avengers and X-Men must join forces to overcome the greatest challenge either team has ever faced, one so devastating that neither can afford to do it alone! Can Captain America’s newly assembled team find a way to peacefully co-exist while also dealing with the game-changing repercussions of Avengers Vs. X-Men?

Then in November, Marvel NOW! expands to all corners of the universe with launches including ALL-NEW X-MEN #1 by Brian Michael Bendis and Stuart Immonen, AVENGERS #1 by Jonathan Hickman and Jerome Opena, on-sale in December, and NEW AVENGERS #1, by Hickman and Steve Epting, on-sale in January 2013.

“We brought fans the biggest comic book event imaginable in Avengers Vs. X-Men and now we’re taking the Marvel Universe to an exciting new place, beginning with Uncanny Avengers #1,” said Tom Brevoort, SVP, Executive Editor, Marvel Entertainment. “If you’re a long-time fan, all the stories you’ve read will give you even more enjoyment of what’s happening now—we’re not abandoning our past. But if you’re a new reader, this is where you’re going to learn just why Marvel comics are unlike anything else you’ve ever read. And no character is left unaffected by Marvel NOW!.”

Every comic book bearing the Marvel NOW! branding includes a code for a free digital copy of that same comic on the Marvel Comics app for iOS and Android devices. Additionally, each issue #1 of Marvel NOW! series features special augmented reality content available exclusive through the Marvel AR app, including cover recaps, behind the scenes features and more that add value to your reading experience at no additional cost.

“This is the natural next step of the Marvel ReEvolution, as we evolve every facet of Marvel publishing,” explained Joe Quesada, Chief Creative Officer, Marvel Entertainment. “You’ve seen us craft new digital storytelling formats like Marvel Infinite Comics and bring added value to our comics with Marvel AR. Now our print comics leap into the future with a cinematic new look for our covers, exciting new designs for our biggest characters and stories that will send you on the kind of journey you can only get at Marvel.”

This October, Join The ReEvolution as Marvel NOW! kicks off with UNCANNY AVENGERS #1, ushering in a new era for comics and the perfect jumping on point for new readers. The biggest creators bring you the biggest characters in the biggest stories…and it’s happening NOW!

To commemorate the historic release of UNCANNY AVENGERS #1 on Wednesday, October 10, participating retailers can host special advance release parties the night before! That’s right, you can experience the biggest new series launch of the year on Tuesday, October 9 at select retailers, who’ll also have limited edition giveaways exclusive to these events.

Is the Merc with a Mouth finally getting his own spinoff film? Maybe. Total Film talked with X-Men movie producer Lauren Shuler Donner and she told them that the Deadpool solo movie is back on track with Ryan Reynolds set to star in it. Donner went on to say that they are hoping “redeem him” after the crapfest that was X-Men Origins: Wolverine. While I loathed the horrible prequel, Reynolds still shined as the wisecracking Wade Wilson — even though they otherwise wrecked the character when he finally became “Deadpool”, if you want to call that thing at the end of Origins Deadpool. With a stylistic director, an upbeat comedic tone, and a R rating due to a bloody good time I could see the film being pretty awesome. Just please let it be its own thing and not a cameo fest like Origins.

While making the press rounds for her latest film, Johnny English Reborn, Scully herself Gillian Anderson is reigniting rumors of a third X-Files film being made. She told an Australian TV program that she hopes that the movie moves forward and that a script is being written. 2008’s The X-Files:  I Want to Believe wasn’t a huge blockbuster but it did pretty well and was made for a relatively low budget of 30 million dollars. Keeping the costs down and doing a new film focusing on Agents Scully and Mulder (David Duchovny) would be a smart move for 20th Century Fox. We are far enough removed from the series that they could do pretty much anything storywise. And I hope that they would reach for the stars (pun intended).

A teaser image for September’s Uncanny X-Men #543 has been released by Marvel Comics and it showcases a fan favorite X-Men as one of the world destroyers of the company’s current “Fear Itself” crossover event.

Will the X-Men be able to take down the unstoppable Colossus?

I’m a big fan of the X-Men and I enjoyed what Bryan Singer did to craft their world on film in X-Men and X2: X-Men United. Sadly, after he left the series things quickly went downhill with Brett Ratner’s horrible follow up X-Men: The Last Stand, which not only killed off key players, but depowered others and the ones that were left were written so out of character that they might as well have been killed also. To make matters worse, Fox then brought us X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Not only the worst movie of the series, but one of the worse comic movies of all time. The only saving grace was that Hugh Jackman really is awesome in the role, and even in a awful movie he is still good. The movie didn’t even try to fit into continuity, and I don’t even want to get started about the ending and how they made Logan lose his memory. But finally there is a glimmer of hope…

Bryan Singer has returned to help guide the franchise as they pull back to the origin or Professor X and Magneto with X-Men: First Class, with Matthew Vaughn directing. The movie isn’t based on any storyline in particular from the comic’s long history, but is pulling in a bunch of characters we have yet to see including Sebastian Shaw, Havok, and my favorite character in recent years, Darwin. We’ll also finally be seeing the Hellfire Club, and will have a proper introduction to Emma Frost, perfectly cast with January Jones of Mad Men fame.

Now comes word that Singer and Vaughn are eager to keep making films in the X-Men universe and want to show mutants through time, working through the end of the 60s, the 70s and the 80s. That could be interesting, but I’m more keen on Singer returning to the present day X-Men and fixing what Ratner broke. Thankfully producer Lauren Shuler-Donner agrees with me and told Empire Magazine that she plans to produce X4 and X5, which follow Last Stand. Death is never final in the X-Men universe, so there are lots of ways to negate the wrongs of the third X-Men movie and get the series back on track. There is no lack of talent with the actors and now we have real talent behind the camera again, so I have faith that we might see the X films that we deserve. I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

Okay, so these aren’t the first posters that Fox has released for the upcoming prequel, X-Men First Class, but I gotta say, I dig them. The first image is of James McAvoy as a very hairy Professor X-

And the next is of Michael Fassbender, who looks just as pissed off as the Magento we know and love.

I love the style with the reflections in the water and the contrast between the backgrounds, showing the characters very different paths and history. I’ve said it before, and don’t get me wrong I have a ton of faith in Matthew Vaughn, I really hope this new flick is able to be true to the other movies and actually be good (unlike the god awful prequel X-Men Origins: Wolverine and the just as bad sequel X3). How about you, getting excited yet?
