There is only one thing that I like more than zombies, and that is George Romero’s zombies! So, you can imagine my excitement earlier today when I read in Variety that George Romero begins shooting this week on an all new zombie film, which is believed to be “Island of the Dead”.

The horror thriller sounds more like a solo film, rather than a continuation of his original “Night” series or his more recent “Diary of the Dead”. Either way, it is a Romero zombie film, and that is enough to get my butt in the theater.

According to Variety, the plot focuses on the “inhabitants of an isolated island off the North American coast who find their relatives rising from the dead to eat their kin. The leaders of the island feud over whether or not to kill their reanimated relatives or preserve them in hopes of finding a cure.”

The movie sounds like an old school voodoo zombie film, like the 1943 horror classic “I Walked With a Zombie”, rather than the more recent crop of high octane/non-stop action zombie films (“28 Weeks Later”, “Dawn of the Dead” remake).  Read more about who will be involved with Romero’s new zombie film by clicking here.

Dead Rising is coming to the Wii, with hack and slash gameplay

One of my favorite games on the X-Box 360 is coming to the Wii! “Dead Rising: Chop Til You Drop” follows the story of “Frank West, an overly zealous freelance journalist on a hunt for the scoop of a lifetime. In pursuit of a juicy lead, he makes his way to the small suburban town of Willamette only to find that it has become overrun by zombies. Frank escapes to the local shopping mall” where the real fun begins (Source: IGN).

While the graphics might not be as slick as they were on the 360, the Wii offers a way for gamers to enter the zombie infested mall in a whole new way as you’ll have to hack/slash and point/shoot the Wii controller at the flesh eaters to survive. With 10,000 zombies coming at you, I can only imagine how tired your arm will be after a few hours of gameplay. Keep reading to watch a video showcasing the gameplay (gory/graphic violence).
