I briefly mentioned this new series in the last Pit, BOOM! Studios has put together a very interesting 24 issue series adapting Philip K. Dick’s classic book, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, into a comic. The book of course inspired Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner, but this is its first telling in comic form in my knowledge. In fact, I don’t know any other comics that have adapted a book by combining panels and actual text. It is so faithful, that they are giving sole writing credit to Philip K. Dick. The issue hits stands tomorrow.
BOOM! Studios is becoming a comic publisher to look out for. They were completely off my radar until very recently, but between this series, new ongoing books for Pixar’s library of films (including The Incredibles), and Mark Waid’s Irredeemable, about a Superman like hero who becomes the world’s most powerful villain, they putting out some new and very interesting comics.
What else is worth getting this week?
- Marvel: X-Factor #46 – Siryn vs Monet. Madrox and Layla vs Sentinels in the future. ’nuff said.
- DC: Blackest Night #1 – Another DC Comics crossover sucks me back in. Hey, I’m a sucker for heroes returning from the dead.
- IDW: Doctor Who #1 – It is about time that the good Doctor got an ongoing series. In the first issue, he travels to Hollywood in the 1920s, where he befriends Charlie Chaplin and uncovers an alien plot. Aweome.
