Sure, the big screen adaptation of Deadpool with Ryan Reynolds in the title role is no closer to being made, but that doesn’t mean we can’t get our monthly fill of the merc with the mouth. In June, Deadpool gets “Reborn” by writer Daniel Way and artist Shawn Crystal. Marvel has released cover images (above) for the issues and official descriptions (below). Then get excited for August, in addition to the regular title we get a weekly 4-part mini-series, Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe, from writer Cullen Bunn and artist Dalibor Talajic. Hey, if anyone could take down the Marvel universe, it’d be Deadpool.

DEADPOOL #56
Deadpool is beaten badly. By the dumbest member of the Intelligencia. Guest-starring Taskmaster!

DEADPOOL #57
Wrapping up the “Deadpool: Reborn” arc! Will Deadpool and Taskmaster pull of their heist? Will Trapster beat the glue out of this new Deadpool?

You can read Deadpool issue #56 on June 13, 2012 and Deadpool issue #57 hits stands on July 04, 2012, both from Marvel Comics.

We are only a couple months away from the milestone 100th issue of Robert Kirkman’s The Walking Dead. If you have been to this site in the past, then you know that it is my favorite ongoing comic and while most titles get worse with age, The Walking Dead has consistently been an entertaining edge of your seat thrill ride and a character study of normal people coping with the end of the world. It spawned one of the best shows on television (and the highest rated Cable series ever), although as good as the show is, it does not hold a candle to the comic.

Now might be a good time to go back and reread the first issue of the series and thanks to Image Comics, you can legally read The Walking Dead issue 1 (and issue 49) online for free. If you are a fan of the television version of The Walking Dead, I highly (HIGHLY) recommend checking out the first issue and considering ordering the trades online. If you have never heard of The Walking Dead before reading this post, it is a comic series in which a Sheriff deputy and family man, Rick Grimes, wakes up from a coma in a hospital to discover that the world has been overrun by zombies.  Not knowing how long he was out cold, he must regain his strength and fight through hordes of the undead to find and protect his family. Along the way he runs into a lot of different survivors and finds out that some or much worse than the zombies.

This post brought to you by Dollar General. All opinions are 100% mine.

It took long enough, but finally there will be a Dollar General in California (and even better- in Hollywood itself). If you don't know what Dollar General is, let me jump right to the chase and let you in on what might be one of your favorite new stores… Dollar General sells everything from food and geroceries to clothing and health and beauty products and household items, pet products, gifts, home decor, movies and school suppies to name some of the stuff they offer. The prices are affordable (as you can imagine with the store's name) and you can find a variety of name-brand/private labels merchandise.

They are currently building a Dollar General in North Hollywood, the address is on the crossstreet of Laurel Canyon and Magnolia Blvd. I hope that it includes the market with a full gerocery store in it. Until it is finished, the closest Dollar General to me is located at 3101 Wilson Road Bakersfield, CA 93304.

In addition to the great offers through the store, they help out the community through their Dollar General Literacy Foundation. The foundation supports local literacy and education in 38 different states and works with people of all ages.

For more information, you can check out the Dollar General Facebook and "like" it for updates on when one might be opening by you. Also on their website is "Dollar General alerts" which can notify you about deals, coupons, etc, via email, text alerts or through your Facebook page.

For those filmmakers out there, don’t forget how Dollar General coming to California (more specifically Los Angeles) can help out your future movie shoots.  You can get cheaper food for crafty and catering, affordable clothing for costumes, office supplies for your production office and a ton of different possible props to use during production.

Earlier today, PJFlip over at 141tv was kind enough to point out a new (and very creative webseries) to us; Video Game High School. The official concept behind the series:

About Video Game High School: It’s the near future: You’re dead. Your kids are probably dead. Your grandkids (if they’re alive) are playing video games. Why? Because professional gaming is the biggest sport on earth.

Around the world, millions of players duke it out in fighters, RTS’s, First Person Shooters and more. To the victors go the spoils: glory, clan contracts and million dollar endorsements. The best young gamers are recruited by elite boarding schools to sharpen their skills. The best of the best go to VGHS: VIDEO GAME HIGH SCHOOL.

VGHS is a feature-length action/comedy web series (9 episodes, ~10 mins per episode) about best friends, first loves, and landing that perfect head shot. It follows Brian, a young FPS player stuck in a town where he doesn’t belong. His fortunes change when he scores a massive kill against the world’s top amateur player: VGHS senior “The Law.”

Brian rockets into the national spotlight and lands an invite into the hallowed halls of VGHS. There his skills will be tested as he fights to fit in with the most talented gamers alive. Along the way he’ll make unlikely friends, fall in love with no-nonsense FPS hot shot, Jenny Matrix, and face powerful enemies – namely The Law, who vows to destroy Brian for good.

Will Brian’s dreams end before they’ve even started? Or will he pull it together and become the gamer he was born to be?

The first three episodes of Video Game High School have gone online and can be watched for free.

Watch Video Game High School (VGHS) episode 1: “Welcome to the world of Video Game High School”

Watch Video Game High School (VGHS) episode 2: “Brian D gets a little more than he bargained for on his first day…”

Watch Video Game High School (VGHS) episode 3: “Welcome to FPS 101. My name is Ace. You can call me Ace. With Zachary Levi as Ace.”

Check out the series and than come back to talk about it!

If you are anything like me, then you egarly wait for new issues of Joss Whedon’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel. Season 9 has been different. Unexpected, but not completely fulfilling- yet I still run to the store when new issues are released.

Angel & Faith has been the better of the two titles, it has a clear focus and I feel like it is progressing towards something big. Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 9 on the other hand, like Buffy herself, lacks a real focus. (mild spoilers) The pregnancy scare was intriguing and it was great to see Robin Wood again along with bits and pieces of his mother’s past. Yet the book took a detour that I wouldn’t describe as good and opened up a lot of plot holes which I doubt will ever get filled. And am I the only one who doesn’t enjoy Spike’s alien ship with giant bugs? I hated the giant psychic fish at IDW, but these guys (save for a few very funny one liners) are just as bad and useless.

Anyhow, previews for both title’s issue 10:

ANGEL & FAITH #10 (above left, cover by Rebekah Isaacs)
Angel and Faith are forced into battle, less by choice and more by circumstance, when two mysterious women from Giles’s past call on the unlikely duo for help. But that’s only the beginning of Angel and Faith’s troubles as the ladies settle in for the night! Series writer Christos Gage (Avengers Academy) and guest artist Chris Samnee (Thor), the creative team of Vertigo’s Area 10, reveal more about Giles’s past and further Angel’s quest in bringing the Watcher back from the dead! Samnee and Gage reunite!

BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER SEASON 9 #10 (above right, cover by Georges Jeanty)
While Buffy is undertaking an away mission with Spike and Andrew, the SFPD is starting to really feel the effect of the rapid zompire population growth . . . With Buffy out of town, as the only Scoobies in the vicinity, Xander and Dawn have been approached for guidance. Buffy needs to get herself back together and home to SF quick, but facing Slayer Simone and her unexpected ally is going to make it a rough job! Zompires attack the SFPD! Executive produced by Joss Whedon!

Angel & Faith hits stands on May 30th, while the new issue of Buffy comes out on June 13th.

A month from now, on June 20th, the controversial prequel Before Watchmen: Comedian #1 hits stands and the digital market.  Whether you are for or against all of the “Before Watchmen” titles, you have to admit, these are some pretty nifty covers that DC Entertainment released earlier today. The one on the left is a variant cover by Eduardo Risso, while the one of the right is by the living legend, Jim Lee. DC released a third cover over on its blog.

Official issue description: “I’m a funny guy…” Written by Brian Azzarello and illustrated by J.G. Jones. Plus: Don’t miss the CRIMSON CORSAIR backup story by writer Len Wein and artist John Higgins!

Who watches reads the Watchmen?

Did you catch the plane crash on Grey’s Anatomy last Thursday? How about 2 Broke Girls meeting Martha Stewart? Did you witness House‘s struggle in a burning building? Will you be watching tonight as the Glee kids graduate from High School? As you might have noticed, the current TV season is quickly coming to a close. This gives you the perfect opportunity to take a look at your television package.

Do you have Cable, direct tv, Dish, or do you get all of your television via the web? What or how is the best way to get your television fix? How much are you spending or how much are you comfortable spending. Personally, I use Cable and have been using it for years. I have quickly been getting discouraged as my price seems to go up and up with nothing I can do about keeping it down.

How would my package compare to dx3 direct tv? Well, let me take a look. I spend approximately 100 bucks for my service and I get two premium channels. The price scale on www.dx3.net stars at 29.99 for the Entertainment package and goes up to 44.99 for the Choice Ultimate package (both deals for 12 months).  Entertainment package comes with 140 channels, which is about what I have now minus the premium channels, while Choice Ultimate package has 225 channels with 11 extra movie channels and free premium channels for 3 months. The Choice Ultimate has a lot of bang for the buck.  Direct TV has other options and features including (but not limited to) NFL Sunday Ticket and On Demand. Check out one of the links above to learn more about Direct TV and if it is right for your TV viewing habits!
