TV Tonight: Arrow (10/10/12)

The CW is returning to the superhero genre with a bang. Arrow is easily one of my most anticipated new shows and I cannot wait for its premiere. Merging the grit of Nolan’s Batman series with the long arc story telling of Smallville, Arrow could be the best new show the CW has produced in a long time.

From what I can tell of the promos, I’m expecting that we’re in for something special and Stephen Amell seems absolutely perfect as the Green Arrow, more so then Justin Hartley (though, I do believe he did a good job during his run on Smallville). For all the geeks out there, I know this is going to be must see TV. I can just feel it.

Official Episode Description, “Pilot”: Oliver is rescued and creates the persona of Arrow, an expert archer determined to fight evil in his beloved city in the opener of a series about billionaire playboy Oliver Queen, who becomes a vigilante after being shipwrecked for five years.

The new show Arrow was really good, very dark. Reminded me of the show Revenge more than Smallville.

Well the ratings are in — Arrow grabbed 4.2 milion viewers making it the highest drawing show in three years for the CW! With the CW’s low standards, in terms of viewership, I expect this show to be on for awhile. It’s going to easily usurp the status of “flagship series” from The Vampire Diaries soon, I’m predicting.

Don’t forget that ratings can go sour very quickly if they don’t deliever a good show week after week. I hope it does good and leads to more DC shows. Like Wonder Woman, Deadman or Booster Gold, all of which are in development.

Apparently they’ve added Raven to the DC comics series slate. I understand that ratings will slide, but, especially with the CW’s standards — and the quality of the pilot (it was very solid). I don’t see it getting cancelled after a single season. It’s not like Ringer where the pilot really was — unsound.

Raven was an old one in development Q. It was being developed along while Smallville was on. Unfortunaly it never got past the planning stage though I suspect that is still a chance given Arrow’s first episode success that it could be revived. One thing which I think would good for CW is perhaps build a cohesive DC Universe using the lesser known DC characters while the big ones get the big screen treatment.
