Fangoria has announced that they will be holding a free screening of the long delayed horror anthology “Trick ‘R Treat” in New York City on October 13th. The screening will be the film’s East Coast premiere and will be introduced by the film’s director Michael Doughtery (co-writer of “X-Men 2” and “Superman Returns”), who will stick around afterwards for an audience Q&A.

The film stars Anna Paquin, Brian Cox, Dylan Baker, and Leslie Bibb. IMDB lists the plot of the film as follows; “Four interwoven stories that occur on Halloween: An everyday high school principal has a secret life as a serial killer; a college virgin might have just met the one guy for her; a group of teenagers pull a mean prank; a woman who loathes the night has to contend with her holiday-obsessed husband.”

It might be a bit premature to say this, but could Guy Ritchie be back? The trailer for his new film, “RockNRolla”, has a vibe and style that reminds me of “Snatch”, and an excellent cast (featuring Gerard Butler, Tom Wilkinson, and Jeremy Piven). I hope the film is as good as the trailer (you can watch it below) and that we are not left with another “Swept Away” or “Revolver”.  You can also check out the film’s awesome poster here.

Our friends at Indy Mogul helped us make a $15 boom pole, but how do you make a $14 steadycam? Johnny Chung Lee’s website has a step by step guide to creating “the poor man’s steadicam”. He goes over the tools and supplies that you’ll need. He then goes point by point through the process (with pictures), and includes a few samples at the end of his how to.  Worse comes to worse if you decide that it is too much to handle, Lee also sells the cheap steadycam for $39.95 on the site. Like a phoenix, when one “Stargate” series falls, another one rises from its ashes. First we had “Stargate: Atlantis” just as the original “Stargate: SG-1” series was losing steam, and now that “Atlantis” is reaching its end, “Stargate: Universes” is ready to go where no stargate has gone before. The Hollywood Reporter announced this morning that the new series will be launched with a 2 hour TV movie in early 2009 and will be followed with the new series in the summer.

The new series will of course be overseen by series co-creators Brad Wright and Robert Cooper, who will act as executive producers and writers on the new series. THR goes on to say that the new series “introduces a team of explorers who find an ancient unmanned ship called the Destiny. Unable to return to Earth, the crew must fend for themselves aboard the ship, which has a preprogrammed mission taking them to the far reaches of the universe.” While no “SG-1” or “Atlantis” cast members will be a part of the new shows regular cast, crossovers are expected to continue as they did with “SG-1” and “Atlantis”.

“Stargate” is the Sci Fi Channel’s longest-running original series franchise, so I don’t think this show is that much of a surprise. “Stargate: SG-1” has continued since it was canceled in the form of straight to DVD movies, and it is expected that “Stargate: Atlantis” will do the same after it finished up its last season, which is currently airing on the Sci-Fi Channel. This is a franchise that knows how to streech its legs!

I saw a panel and behind the scenes footage for the adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s “Coraline” at the 2007 San Diego Comic-Con and it blew me away. Henry Selick (who directed “The Nightmare Before Christmas”) is directing “Coraline” in all of its stop motion glory in 3D. The IMDB’s Studio Briefings is reporting that restored versions of both “The Godfather” and “The Godfather Part 2” will be getting limited releases in New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco. The first movie will be released the week of September 12th, followed by “Part 2” the week of the 26th.

Francis Ford Coppola has been supervising the restorations along with his cinematographer Gordon Willis and Robert Harris, a film preservationist who restored “Lawrence of Arabia”.  

Personally, I can not wait to see “The Godfather” on the big screen for the first time. It is one of those movies that completely deserves to be released in theaters for every generation. It is a real shame that it is only getting released in New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco.
