The summer is quickly coming to a close and you know what that means… TV IS ALMOST BACK! It is time to dust off the remote control and set the DVR to record all of your favorites. As we get closer and closer to the fall season, info is starting to spill out. Lets tale a look at some of the recent news.

Tina Majorino is jumping from her most recent gig on True Blood to another bloody show with a high body count, Grey’s Anatomy. You might remember Majorino from Napoleon Dynamite, Veronica Mars, and Big Love. She joins already announced guest stars including Friday Night Lights‘ “Smash” Gaius Charles and Californication‘s Camilla Luddington (who was also on True Blood). The show has a little more room to play around with new characters after cast regulars Chyler Leigh (Lexie) and Kim Raver (Teddy) left at the end of last season and Eric Dane has announced that he will be leaving after a few episodes into the new season. Last season was the best since the second season. The show really found a good stride and worked hard to make characters likeable again, and it showed and worked. I was genuinely surprised by the season finale and Lexie’s fate. I hope that the show can continue to surprise me next season.

Mad Man‘s awesome “partner” John Slattery will be guest starring on Netflix’s Arrested Development revival. This keeps with the tradition of Arrested Development having the best casting department in the business.  Slattery is a joy to watch and I hope that he is in as many episodes of the 10 episode season as possible. With the forth season of the cult comedy beginning production, expect a lot more news in coming weeks.

Keeping up with this week’s theme of casting news, Martin Sheen joined his son Charlie “#Winning” Sheen’s FX series Anger Management as… you guessed it, his father. The character first appeared yesterday and is described as “hyper-critical and a bully”. The series is still working off its initial order and is waiting for FX to decide to put in a massive 90 episode back order. If they go through with it, Martin Sheen will be staying along for the ride. What can we do to get Emilio on the show also? Throw in another 90 episodes? The elder Sheen was last seen in The Amazing Spider-Man as the ill-fated Uncle Ben.

Don’t forget with all the great TV that is coming up soon and all of the sitting and junk fooding out that you’ll be doing that is is important to stay in shape- and team sportswear will help you look good while doing it.

1000 episodes. Every week since January 11, 1993. It’s an achievement worthy of celebrating. How will WWE handle it?

They began with an amazing promo heavy on celebrities, recently retired wrestlers and Eddie Guerrero. Eddie certainly deserves it. Vince had to start the show to get his own standing ovation, but he soon brings out DX. Lots of DX as X-Pac and the New Age Outlaws eventually join the fun. They are interrupted by a rookie superstar who goes by the moniker of Damian Sandow. He’s a guy who thinks of the others as common trash while he brings intelligence, enlightenment and saves us from ourselves. So of course, he gets beaten down by the legends doing their old antics.

And therein lies the problem with most of the show, nostalgia winning out over current events. Jim Ross doing guest commentary is all well and good and I’m sure it was many an RoH fan’s dream to see CM Punk, Daniel Bryan and The Rock in the ring all together. The problem is The Rock was made to look like the best of them. The Rock is usually off shooting movies. These other guys bust their asses for you over 200 nights a year. Why make them seem lesser?

We get plenty of 1993 trivia (the year RAW went on the air), Charlie Sheen doing commentary when he clearly knows nothing about the product, and all kinds of social media tweets, trends and touts. Twitter is clearly a sponsor, part of a relentless wave of product placement throughout the show.  And WWE has the audacity to introduce their 100,000,000th social media follower. But that’s across all platforms and we all know how much duplication there is across social media platforms. And how would you single out one person joining at one exact point across all platforms. I think they just took a guess and the lucky guy got to come to the show.

Big events? Stephanie McMahon convinced Paul Heyman to let Triple H (two more aging “Superstars”) fight Brock Lesnar at Summerslam. The Miz defeated Christian for the Intercontinental title. AJ left Daniel Bryan at the altar to instead become the  new RAW General Manager. The Rock gets a title shot at Wrestlemania for the big shiny belt. The Undertaker returned to save his brother Kane from a beatdown by six random heel jobbers. Yep, two old guys beat 6 new guys. I can understand throwing Heath Slater under the bus by having him lose to Lita since that’s about all he’s good for. It was nice to see the double Tombstone one more time though.

All this left 15 minutes for the main event, and even then it was slow paced. John Cena cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase to face CM Punk for the WWE Championship. CM Punk again showed he’s an amazing technical wrestler while John Cena showed how he can keep a crowd involved in a match no matter which side is winning. There was a good old fashioned ref bump and Cena should have pinned Punk. Then Big Show interfered to attack Cena and land the knockout punch. A reluctant CM Punk pinned Cena only to have him kick out. Then Big Show attacked again, but this time in plain view of the ref. Thus the main event of RAW 1000 ended in a DQ.

And really, that’s why I’m giving up. Three hour RAWs every week is too much. Add Smackdown, NXT, Superstars, TNA (who are rumored to be getting another two hour show) and RoH (who would love to expand to two hours) and it’s all too much. Wrestling quality today is not high. They are letting their past stars dominate and only a select few new ones can work hard enough to earn a spot at the top. After ten years, I say goodbye to professional wrestling* and move on to new horizons.

• Brodus Clay squashed Jack Swagger
• The Miz defeated Christian to win the Intercontinental Championship
• Lita defeated Heath Slater with the help of the APA in a No Disqualification, No Count-out Match
• John Cena defeated CM Punk by disqualification after Big Show interfered in the Money in the Bank match. CM Punk retains the title.

Lets jump right in.

She’ll be back? Hopefully. The latest rumor for the proposed Terminator 5 (you know, the one Universal is looking to make with Arnold and Fast Five director Justin Lin) is that Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton) might be back from the grave. Or more accurately, never died in the first place as Lin is looking to explore the idea of the multiple timelines. With how far Terminator 3 and 4 strayed from what was originally established, it would make perfect sense to explore the idea of the fractured timeline.

In the about time department, the Sin City 2 script is undergoing some rewrites by William Monahan in preparation for the film to finally be shot. The original was shot back in 2005 and it is really weird that it has taken more than 6 years for the sequel to get closer to being made. The original was a spot on adaptation of the popular graphic novel, that was not only a hit creatively, but found a decent sized audience.

Lots of movement on the Two and a Half Men front, with Judy Greer cast as Ashton Kutcher’s ex-wife and the announcement of Courtney Thorne-Smith returning as Lyndsey McElroy, Jon Cryer’s Alan’s ex-love interest. It will be interesting to see how all of the changes that started with Charlie Sheen being fired will effect the show’s ninth season.

So much going on in the world of TV, lets focus on some of that today!

• Steven Spielberg’s upcoming TNT sci-fi series Falling Skies finally has a release date! It will launch with a 2 hour premiere on June 19 at 9pm, than ove into a regular Sunday 10pm timeslot. The new alien centered series stars TV vet Noah Wyle (ER). If it is half as good as Spielberg’s past sci-fi TV effort Taken, I’ll be tuning in.

• TNT has also announced dates for the new seasons of its original programming. Men of a Certain Age with Ray Romano and the great Scott Bakula returns on June 1st at 10pm for the last 6 episodes of its second season. June 1st will also see the premiere of Mark-Paul Gosselaar (Saved by the Bell) legal series Franklin Bash. It will have a 10 episode first season. June 14th will see the launch of new seasons of both the Jason Lee starer Memphis Beat and the Jada Pinkett Smith hospital drama Hawthorne, where she is joined this season by singer/actor Marc Anthony. June 26th sees the return of crime series Leverage and July 11th is the start of new seasons of veteran shows The Closer and Rizoli & Isles.

• I wonder who would play Charlie Sheen in a TV Movie about this rise/fall and “winning”? Sheen has endorsed Rob Lowe to take over for him on Two and a Half Men… he might make a good Charlie Sheen though. Hmmmm. Maybe Sheen could even finance the movie, he just filed a law suit against Warner Brothers for 100 million dollars. Dr. Evil style yo.

• My Future Girlfriend, the new webseries from the creators of We Need Girlfriends finally has a release date! Ragtag Productions will release the first episode of the five episode sci-fi influenced series on April 1st! Hopefully we’ll get a teaser to post soon!

• This past Monday House took on zombies in a dream sequence and back at Halloween we saw Community faced with a zombie like invasion, what other shows would you like to see the characters take on zombies in? How would members of The Office fare? I think the doctors at Grey’s would get eaten pretty quickly. Chuck and company would easily defend the Buy More from the undead. One of the funniest sitcoms that I have ever seen is the show Two and a Half Men. This show stars Charlie Sheen, Jon Cryer and Angus Jones. The story focuses on the circumstances that arise when a debauchee jingle writer (played by Charlie Sheen) has to share his house with his cheap-skate divorced brother (played by Jon Cryer) and his idiot son (played by Angus Jones).

Two and a Half Men was developed by Chuck Lorre, who wrote for some of the funniest sitcoms in history; Roseanne, Dharma and Greg, Grace Under Fire and more recently, The Big Bang Theory. His style of writing can be crass at times, but it also deals with the issues of real people. I think that is why those shows, as well as Two and a Half Men, are so popular. Just about everyone who watches the show can relate to the story and the characters. And that makes for some great television.

Two and a Half Men have been running for seven seasons now and there is some speculation that the show won’t be returning due to stalled contract talks between the show and the main star, Charlie Sheen. If these talks can’t be worked out than I am afraid the show is doomed. I just can’t imagine it going on without its main star. It might continue to limp on for awhile, but will eventually fall in ratings. How sad would that be for such a funny show? But, no matter if it continues on or abruptly ends, I do know one thing. I will have seven years of reruns to keep me in stitches.
