Leopold Keber from LOOM sent me this trailer for their independent film, Tartarus, and it blew me away. The teaser is visually interesting and completely engaging. I can’t wait to see more. The film itself is an alien invasion mystery/thriller that is based in 18th century Imperial Austria.

Created way back in 2004 by producer Sky Wilson and director Vin Kelly, Inside Report has always focused on giving the talent behind the best short films the recognition they deserve. Every edition has featured interviews with some of the best up and coming talent from around the world.

Filmmakers such as Sandy Collora (Batman: Dead End), Marty Martin (Got Milk?: The Movie, Dance With The Devil), and Shane Felux (Revelations, Trenches) have all appeared in previous shows, and we are aiming to find the next generation of talent in 2009 and beyond.

Greetings From The Shore is an independent film by Greg Chwerchak, that stars Paul Sorvino (Goodfellas), David Fumero (One Life to Live), and introduces Kim Shaw. I had the pleasure of seeing the film a couple months ago, before it took home more than 40 awards at 70 film festivals. The film is a sweet and fresh coming of age story that is set at the Jersey Shore, which has never looked so good.

The film is screening in New York City tonight at the AMC Loews Village 7 (on 3rd Street), and like all independent films, it could use your help. If “Greetings” does well tonight, the film has a chance to open wider, and it really deserves it.

The film’s official description: “Still reeling from the death of her father, a young girl spends one last summer at the Jersey Shore before heading off to college. But when her plans fall apart, the girl stumbles into a mysterious world of Russian sailors, high-stakes gambling, and unexpected love.“

Film & Video Budgets by Deke Simon (with Michael Wiese) is an excellent book for anyone who is looking to budget an independent film. I bought and read it last year (the 4th edition of the book), and it was not only informative and easy to use, but I was able to use its guidelines and templates to complete a feature film budget for a script that I have been raising funds for.
